Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Why is there motion blur on the arms and guns in first-person? Isn't the blur supposed to be for far away surfaces when spinning/moving?

It's so distracting and unnecessary.

edit: Like this

Not everything on screen. It should be based on distance.

Was able to play 2 games before the servers collapsed.

Fun game so far. Grenades really are very powerful, and the assault rifle feels like a pea-shooter. DMR is great though.

Not so good

- Graphics need tweaking. Jaggies? still? And that ghosting is bordering on distracting

This is why I stated the game looked like ass. The ghosting and the jaggies. The ghosting makes the game look choppy, framerate wise, and the jaggies... well they're jaggies.

Art direction-wise, game hardly looks any different in MP from Halo 3 to me.

I keep getting a playlist pending download for some reason? Does anyone know why? I've had access to the early beta for the past 3 days.

EDIT: So the servers are down?

Guessing so.

I noticed the Marathon emblem isnt in the game. That was always my jam. Does the beta not include all the symbols are something? Maybe there next game is actually Marathon, and they couldn't put the logo in Reach. :D

this made me sad as well. i'm lost without it.

Sword Base + Everyone on enemy team with Armor Lock = Complete fucking disaster. :lol WTF? I've literally had up to 2 minute stalemates with an enemy player because we both have armor lock and are using it back and forth.

Anyway yeah the jaggies and ghosting are bad but the gunplay feels pretty good. If I didn't see SPARTAN armor everywhere and that typical Halo environment art style, I'd be surprised it's a Halo game. It feels...different. Loadouts are great overall, like the new weapons, especially the DMR but this armor lock shit needs to be tweaked.

God are you guys fucking serious? How hard are you looking for these "graphic flaws".

I play on a 42 inch hd tv and I can honestly say I have no idea what the fuck you are complaining about.

If you are gonna bitch about something, bitch (discuss) about gameplay. At least that has some benefit to the finished product.

I play huddled just a few feet from a 30 inch HD screen and I haven't the foggiest clue what they're talking about. It's nit picking in the absolute extreme.

Question time: The Arena rating that is shown on top of the scoreboard at the end of a game, is it your rating for that game, or overall?

Yeah, it's not like Reach has an issue with 1 vs 1 battles lasting too long. Again, the main point of the armor lock is to hope that a third party comes and finishes off the job you started. Armor lock = "someone come in with full health and finish off this guy with his shield half down and focusing on me, please!" It's not exciting or fun, it's just silly. Thanks to the slowness of this game and the longevity of battles, there is already plenty of "opportunist gameplay" without the need of armor lock.

Agree. I've noticed very few IQ issues on my 32" set. Much, much better than Halo 3 (though I was never really bothered by the graphics in that game).

Eh? I don't usually bitch about graphics in games. If you stand still and switch to your pistol, watch your arms/pistol closely. It looks like the game is dropping frames but it's ghosting. At least on my TV that's what's happening.

actually, I find armor lock to be an anti grenade ability, With the added bonus of turning a melee around on someone and occasionally getting help from a teammate.

Why the hell are you watching your arms and the pistol? You should be looking for people to use those arms and pistol on. Its a silly thing to complain about.

Not everything on screen. It should be based on distance.

motion blur has nothing to do with distance, though.
It should (and it is) based on how fast one object is moving across the screen. This is what happens in halo reach AND in Crysis.

If anything, things closer to the camera will indeed show more motion blur, since they will appear to move faster.

So is it just me, or is File Share fucked at the moment?

Is there any way to submit videos for bugs? I've got what I think is a couple of stand-by matches, one of them ending up 3-0 in single flag. Yeah... 3-0.

Guy, seriously, if you can't handle contrarian opinions get the hell of the internet. So what if people want to talk about the graphics? It's an integral part of the gameplay experience, even at the aesthetic level. I'm playing on a 50 inch Panny G10 and I think the game looks average. Does that offend you somehow? Yes? Then leap off a precipice.

You wouldn't be bitching about people agreeing with others about how awesome the game looks. That shows a lack of integrity and maturity, there.

It is miles better than Halo 3, but there are definitely some textures that really look jaggy. Sword base has a few notable areas/textures where there are nasty edges popping out. Rest of the game is pretty good though.

What? Not if you're rotating. Motion blur is related to distance. Objects at one end of a spinning rope will move faster than the center will. Thus more blur.

70%, gah, and after that I'm guessing it'll be a while before I can get into a game. Oh well, tis the nature of betas, I'll just enjoy the pointless rage on the bungie.net forums in the mean time.

the bigger your tv, the bigger the iq problems. playing on a 42" lcd and the ghosting is horrible.

:lol I used to be a tester and I do editing work, so even slight stuff will catch my eye. I'm sorry. Overall I think the game looks good, but there are some weird things going on. Not saying it's a huge deal(although strange for such a high profile title), but it's there. Gameplay is fun so far so I guess that's all that matters in a beta.

So you base your opinion of graphics on how they look standing still? Go judge every other release for 360, then. The game looks good. Best graphics? No, but Halo 3 had some ugly textures, but people loved the crap out of that game.

This is a case of "anyone will find anything to complain about".

Ahh...Beta. Downloaded very fast for my connection, like faster then everything I've tried to download before. But now no servers. Such is beta testing.

Question. Sorry if its been asked loads of times.

But how do you do them context based melees?
Hold the Melee button when you attack from the back. I took down a guy lifting off with a jetpack that way. Jumped on his back, smacked his head against the ground. :lol
