Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Do new armor "pieces" really affect some abilities?
How so?
I didn't read anything about in-game when I purchased new armor.

Thanks, never saw that vid. If everything else didn't already give it away (Network Test 1, two-player split screen), the map layout just screams "Firefight". Can't wait.

The turrets, the ammo racks, the layout itself...Firefight baby!

I can't wait to see the map in motion. It looks astonishingly good.

Overlook and Boneyard > Powerhouse and Sword Base.

You can also throw in Bungie's complete and utter silence on the subject. Usually they disabuse us of notions/crush dreams.

I'm not getting the grenade complaints. They don't seem overly powerful at all.

There are plenty if times people have chuncked them my way and I still killed the person throwing it.

One thing I've not figured out is how to switch between grenade types. ??

Btw, I saw the generator defense map video and it's nice to see those cannisters back from Halo 2... They are the ones you shoot and then they go flying all over the place.

It's been fun playing this evening lots of people saying how hard it is to kill people.

I've found bumping up my reticule speed has made the game much more enjoyable.

Yup, spawn rooms with ammo, a literal "weapon drop" this time around, a tiered layout (Spartans take high ground, fight invaders swarming up the hills), and this time with an objective (protect the generators). Pretty clear Firefight is back and got one hell of an overhaul in the process. I wonder what kind of other objectives and modes are buried in it. Imagine custom Firefight games. And with six players.....

oh gosh

They are in 3 too you know... just sayin'.

The level layout screams Firefight and everything we know about it hints heavily - there's no point on Bungie saying anything, they've dropped the hints, spilled the breadcrumbs that we must follow.

Besides, E3 is only a few weeks after the end of the Beta - something tells me we'll be hearing a lot more about the complete feature set (or close to) during that time.

They're powerful compared to past Halo games but are not instant kills like other games. They're really a problem in stuff like Oddball or Headhunter but I've gotten really used to them in regular slayer and CTF.

Bungie said really early on that its just cosmetic.

No. Not in the beta anyway.
Thanks, I was pretty sure already, some people on other forums kept saying that blah blah is better for blah blah ability and it got me confused even if I have 9 hours in the beta.

The only thing that I am not liking right now is the loading before the match..... :/ it takes like 5+ minutes before the match starts >_>

EDIT: not all matches, but some....

The AR in Reach is garbage. It's worse than the Halo 3 one.
This is incorrect. The AR in Reach is more accurate over a longer range, especially if you pump the trigger. The AR in Reach is superior in design, sound, and efficiency in combat than the Halo 3 AR.

Where?
Forge on Foundry :p

Friend of mine made an observation about the image you see of the next map in the lobby, and how it says "Bungie" in the bottom right. He suspects that might change to the gamertag of the map Forger.

That's the server load taking it's toll. Pre ODST access, matches were going perfectly. Loading took seconds. How I miss the F&F :(

Just had my first game, overall a very fun experience. Though I can telll I need to get used to the weapons, different controls and how looking around and moving are different in Reach, compared to Halo 3.

Minor complaint as well, Bungie really need to fix the ghosting on weapons, noticed it right away.

PS. Swordbase doesn't seem NEARLY as bad as the haters make it out to be :lol

Go Recon. Seriously. It is the closest thing to Halo 3's default scheme and having AA on the left button is so perfect.

I've gotten booted out of LOADING GAME AND MAP DATA three times, right now it's been loading for a good five minutes (a whole game on the MLG feed). All eight of us are just sutck there loading TS on PH :lol

Try loading a film up, ending it and then hopping into matchmaking. That worked for me twice.

But instead of playing I went into film and tried to decipher this simultaneous gun kill shit.

Heh - noticed it wasn't the typical Bungie logo on previous map previews from past Halo games. Would be cool if it is used like that, doubtful though.

All of this, but still it's not very good.

So after 6 hours it finally finished downloading but whenever we hit Play the Beta is asks us if we want to download again. It definitely downloaded since there is 1.15 GB less of space is on the hard drive. It doesn't show up in the game library. Anything special to do?

I noticed that too. It's odd. I'm wondering if it was an intentional effect or not?

Reach is looking so sweet! I can't wait for E3.

Looking at that vid of the Laser drop on Overlook... that area behind the map that stretches into SP territory
possibly
looks so lush.

Everything is relative. It's very good compared to the Halo 3 version. However, the pistol and DMR out class it. So if you're going up against users of those guns who are good, you're dead.

As a Green Thumb player I couldn't be happier with the new melee system.
