It doesn't really work like that. The daily rating only represents how you did against people of similar skill level. The old 1 to 50 skill level is not visible, but it's still there.

You can do a bunch of 1750 daily ratings against people in the level 20-30 zone, but only people pulling those kind of ratings against level 50s will get into Onyx.

I'm getting some serious lunge when I exit armour lock and go into melee. I've reached players much further away then I should be able to. Also, for plasma grenades seem to pass through players more often then usual.

PS, arena rating will work like all other rating systems, overtime the more you play the higher your rank, regardless of how good you are. A sad fact of all games that keep stats, from world of warcraft, to halo 3, to any fps game with psycho-stats.

I am SO tired of the bullshit...

Until something changes, I'm completely done with online gaming.
 
Played 8 person party Grab bag today. That was a whole lot of fun. Dax played too but I think we scared him off with our shit talk to each after just a couple of games :lol I had a lot more fun with that than I did with Arena.

Every time I go to Theater I NEVER see any saved films! Is there something you have to do after a game to get it to save? I remember in Halo 3's Beta it kept a lot of games. Mine is empty, and I had a lot of stuff I wanted to see :(.

You went to History right? That lists your recent games in which you can save them.

After you play a game, hit up settings, local files, history. You have to manually pick your recent matches and hit "Save", otherwise they will be wiped when you quit the game.
 
The more I play this the more frustrating melee and grenades are.

People here have said that grenades aren't 1 hit kills, but it certainly feels like it.

The way melee works is just infuriating also.

Honestly, at this point I may just rent reach for the campaign. I played 7000 Halo 3 games, so that will be weird.

You can. I never really found that to be very interesting though. Once had a person that really wanted me to see this "badass" kill he got. Turned out it was just some random plasma stick kill :lol

Personally I don't really have a huge problem with the melee system, it's certainly not as broken as some make it out to be. However if they did change it so you could kill someone with a melee attack if they had maybe say, 20% shield left, I wouldn't complain.

The grenades are certainly more lethal than in previous halo games. But I think people feel they are more powerful than they actually are thanks to the sound effects. The sound they make when you hear them flying towards you, as well as the explosion itself, give them a more powerful feel imo. That combined with the fact that everytime you loose a bit of shield, no matter how little, your suit will start going *beep beep beep beep*, creating a sense of "oh shit" everytime I'm damaged by a grenade.
 
Finally put some time into the beta, and man, this is the evolution Halo needed to take. I's deliciously awesome. The loadout / perk system really opens up the play style, the Arena is addictive and seems (so far) to actually be promoting team-play, and the slightly longer encounter time gives you the room to enjoy them both.

I fucking love it, bravo.

Also, the whole UI is fantastic. My only niggling complaint is the blue "cross-grid pattern" activity thing in the middle left that changes highlights based on what the system is doing (searching for games, players, etc.) It's a clever design (allowing for multiple visual ideas expressed through one thing) but it's also ugly, and doesn't really fit with the clean lines of everything else.

Not gonna happen, the community ain't gonna change nor will it ever. If you thought it was going to be different from Halo 2/3, think again. A community rarely changes for any game IMO like Street Fighter IV.

There's still the stereotypical assholes here in Reach. The racist pricks, the 30-something-year-old who likes to make fun of "kids", the guy shouting out to the team they suck when he/she has 0 kills, the bitter loser shouting expletives at the end of a match, and did I mention racist pricks?
 
I envy you guys able to play the Beta. I guess that's what i get for waiting until the beta's finished so i can pick up ODST for cheap. Back to watching some streams *sigh*

May be that way over there, but Europe Tax included it's still 34€ right now. Things are a little tight right now and i save where i can, so, damn Europe, i guess :(

Do you have a hard drive? Saved film history gets created in the cache or whatever. It'll delete itself if you play a game after Halo.
 
Haven't been able to play again but I was thinking about the game while I was busy with work.

Maybe the problem with the grenades is that they seem to explode a little bit sooner than they did in H3? Am I wrong in saying this?

So when a nade lands by you...you don't have any time to get out of the way.

Combine that with the increased range of the "not only do you lose your shields but you're dead" range.

Won't be able to get into this again until the 22nd of May.

Here's hoping the beta will be extended!

It doesn't, but those things mean you are getting lots of kills. Lots of kills and assists is what matters. I think deaths aren't being treated seriously enough at the moment.

This game nothing but a love hate relationship. It is really abusive but I keep coming back for more. :(

Playing Arena is like cutting yourself with razor blades every second. :lol
Do not enjoy. Trying very very hard to like and love it like I did the previous Halo's but so far it is not clicking. The bloom on the weapons, the UNaccurate firing model for the main weapons. This is not Halo.. it is more like Shadowrun : Spartan Edition. Talking to crew tonight we all though that 343 would have been the usual culprit to pull something like this with Halo, mixing in gameplay elements from another game. But for bungie to change things so much.. I did not see this coming. At this stage imo I would have been a happy camper with a True Halo 3.5. This game is very inconsistant in what it is trying to do. Hopefully the beta leads to things changing for the final release, but who am I kidding.

I know Bungie said they wanted the encounters to last longer per battle. However did they not see that happening with sprint and all the other AA's involved, they had to go an make the weapons feel powerless. Im sorry but the DMR and pistol should have been 4 shot weapons. Along side a covenant equivalent. The AA's make the encounters longer, why make them even longer by nerfing all the weapons to the pile of shit they are right now. I cant imagine what would have happened if Sage had nerfed the pistol like he was hinting at in the Vidoc. What would he do? make it a 8 shot kill [the entire clip]? sigh.

Like Trasher said earlier.. even when you are winning you do not feel any happier. You do not feel like you are actually good at this game. FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU..

More like people who sucked at Halo before are now able to get many kills with the 'nades.. so of course people will love them now. In fact I find it funny, people who did not like Halo before or were not good at it now love Reach. I guess I have to hand it to Bungle for getting the casual crowd interested in Halo again.

I'm so up and down on this game, one minute I'm unstoppable, the next minute it feels like every shot that comes out of my gun is random. sigh :(

Oh, and rockets need a huge nerf, you don't even have to be half way accurate to get kills with it, the splash is insane, plus the speed makes it almost impossible to avoid.

Throw me in the camp that hates the DMR as well, the NR seems to have so much less bloom on it, I know it takes more hits, but the bloom on the DMR usually just turns into random melee fights when I use it. I feel like out of all of the weapons, the NR has the right amount of bloom, you can really get into a rhythm with it pretty easily, the rest, not so much.
 
Once you are placed into a division, (Silver, Gold, ect.) can you move between divisions during that season? Or are you locked into your respective division for that whole season?

Dude, the DMR is VERY consistent if you use the right rhythm the whole time. I think you were just getting tired by the end of the night and were losing that rhythm (which happens to me often). Your first four shots with the DMR can be quite fast, depending on the range of course, but for your fifth shot, when their shields are down, you just need to let most of the bloom contract and wait a little longer. It's money every time.

Btw, I was messing around with the DMR earlier and I noticed that when I crouched that the reticule seemed to expand less. Am I crazy or is that true? I remember Urk saying something about this a while back, but I thought it was a joke post. =/

Those kids we were playing in that last game were all crouching, all the time, and their pistols were destroying from across the map. But yes, you're right, there seems to be a certain time every night when my mind just shuts down and is incapable of finding any rhythm with this game. :lol Arena is also pretty miserable without 3 people you know, thanks Blood! :lol

Yea, I told the guys the other night it looks like Blue and Purple to me, I'm pretty sure this was said after I stuck a teammate. :lol

There's also a bug in the beta where sometimes the enemies name will show up as one of your teammates, I've had it happen twice...

Yeah, I noticed those kids doing that and I remembered Urk saying something about crouching and aiming, so I started messing around in that game with it. Could have sworn that my reticule was a little bit tighter whenever I crouched. Then again I'm super tired and haggard at the moment. :lol

@Nutter: Yeah dude, it's not good when a video game frustrates you this much. Games are supposed to be fun to play, and should make you want to come back and play more. They should feel rewarding. But Reach is just pissing me off right now! That doesn't really say good things for the future and longevity of this game. I mean if I wasn't such a huge Halo fan I don't know if I would have continued to play this game after maybe the first day. I'm trying really hard to like the game right now, and I thought I was actually beginning to like it the other day, but now I'm just not sure anymore.
 
I personally think this game is amazing.

Only thing that disappoints me is the skill range. If your teamate sucks they can literally take your entire team down. In the other halo's you could take over the game by yourself.
 
Spawning in front of a group of enemies in Arena is not fun. It happened to me at least twice, and both times I would spawn directly across from them, and they'd start shooting me instantly. And of course in Sword Base, there's no corner I can quickly run around or something. I'm facing them and I'd have to magically sprint backwards just to avoid being shot.
