Halo: Reach Beta Thread

They meant for one color to be the primary, and another is? This does not seem complex. Bugs happen. The piont is, it was identified and fixed. (Like a host of other stuff that's been pointed out.)

I don't see the issue....
I think he is confused with the nomenclature. Bug Vs. suggested improvement vs. thing I'd like fixed.

gross. I'd rather a little more blue blue, a little more red purple. Or, I dunno, Gold versus White like zealots versus ultras.

Every time I come in this thread Two Minute Turkish is complaining about colors. Seriously:lol And at times, raging. Even yesterday when like 5 people argued with him about it, he insisted he was right, and that everyone else was "abnormal and broken". Get a grip man.

Wow, that looks insane. If only the ground texture had detail like that. I'm not saying the game doesn't look good, but detailed textures on something like the ground on Powerhouse would be so nice.

Actually, I think that would work pretty well. Doesn't look half bad either. :lol

On that note, I will say I am disappointed by the elites when compared to the Spartans. The Spartans have a ton of detail on their armor and from that the Elites look too plain IMO.

I need to play my 3 Arena games today. Yesterday I had a daily rating of 1701 and towards the end I made the unfortunate mistake of going into Arena alone. Luckily I had already had the good games before I got stuck with quitters.

Anybody down to play?

Edit: gt is dboythagr8 if anybody is down.

That's Red vs Blue? :lol :lol :lol

Fix it guys. It's not like a simple colour change will affect gameplay, and it can only PLEASE more of the current userbase. I doubt ANYONE is going to be pissed off that they can see their team mates easier.

Definitely a bug of some sort:

Granted, red could be just a little bit more red. The elite armor seems to have a shiny beetle shell like quality, so that might be why the color looks strange at certain points.

I should be on in an hour or so. If you need another, get at me.

So can anybody explain to me how credits are awarded?

I just finished back-to-back oddball games. Both me and my buddy are Corporal Rank 1.

Game 1: My buddy wins with 150 points. I have 1 point. I just sat at the top and killed dudes; ended +12. I got 200 credits. He got 100 credits.
Game 2: My buddy ends with 50 points, in third place (the winner has 80 as the game goes to time). He ends -10 in kills; I end +6, with 20 points (enough for fourth place). I get 150 credits. He gets 500!!!

In both games we got an equivalent number of medals (plus or minus two or three). So why the discrepancy? Is there any place we can go to in order to see a better breakdown of the credits we've been awarded?

Commendations my friend.

Reach a new level of Commendations for something (say head shots) and you will be rewarded with plenty of credits.

Replace my name with your GT to see your Commendations.

there are certain headshot benchmarks that are reached every once in a while. your buddy probably leveled one of those up.

edit: beaten and answered better directly above.

Got it. That makes sense.

It would be nice to see a breakdown of your credits in the post-game screen, to be honest. But that helps explain the discrepancy.

^ The game looks so good.

I was wondering, how will players show off their division standing tomorrow if there's no Service Record in the beta?

I just noticed something in the Carnage Carnivale ViDoc that may answer your question:

It looks like a star will appear next to your name with the color of your Division.

if that 1702 is anything to extremely loosely go by, looks like I might be silver :P (who knows!)

I believe the number is relative to your division. I'm really not clear on how the division system works at the moment. When I play with Devin, Kevin, the TJs and other people who I would consider excellent Halo players they're all in the mid 1600s for daily Arena rank. I don't see how anyone will come close to an 1800 average if that's what Onyx requires. From what I've seen if you get anywhere near 1750 in one game the film should automatically be saved because you just did some filthy work.

I'm having a lot of fun playing this. Really, it's shaping up to be the most varied, complex iteration of Halo multiplayer yet.

However, I only have one gripe at this point: the overuse of motion blur. Please, tone it down a bit!

Other than that, bring on Invasion :D

With you 100%. Playing the varied game types really keeps the experience fresh. Can't wait for invasion!

Nice. I was wondering how would they show that in the beta since the new Service Record is not ready.

I predict many feeling to be hurt tomorrow when people get assigned to a division. :lol :lol

I'm not expecting any better than Silver myself.

I need to get a 1600+ for one game so I can have a score of 1600+ for the three days. I just don't wanna be steel D:
I think it will be rad to be in the bottom division. you can probably stomp noobs all day long in steel.

anyone up for playing? would like to run some 4 man arena :D

GT: TommyTSquared (logging in now)
sheeee-it, I'm at work otherwise I would. I'd love to pull up the awful curve I created this morning.

First off: I love the idea of the Arena and how it works.

Second: It is STRESSING ME THE FUCK OUT :(

For whatever reason I do much, much better in Arena, I super focus on what I'm doing and what I think everyone is doing. I basically maintain a much higher level of situational awareness than normal. I'm normally someone who plays BTB and is sort of messing around with my friends, and in Halo 3 I have a K/D of 1.08 in Ranked and 1.15; I would probably consider myself a little above average, but nowhere near most people here. And in Grab Bag/FFA for Reach my K/D is 1.03. That said, my Arena stats are crazy:

693s50.png

(the one game I went negative it was -1, and 5 of the 8 games were playing with randoms who weren't talking)

I think so far the best thing I like about Arena is that it basically forces me to think more and play smarter, which I definitely see see improving my game outside the Arena. But fuuuuuck man I can barely play my 3 placement games without losing my mind :lol

I just don't want Steel. Anything else is fine with me.

Also, there's nowhere on bnet that shows your daily ratings? I don't even know what my average was yesterday now, it doesn't keep that anywhere? Kinda lame :(

That's a screengrab from Reach... on powerhouse... by a needler spawn. o_O

Or is my sarcasm meter broken?

I know this is a really minor thing, but eh.

My controller is somewhat broken - the microphone port only works about half the time.

In Halo 2, a little microphone symbol would come up when your mic was plugged in.

http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab40/kamikazemartian/microphoneh2.jpg

In Halo 3, and now in Reach, instead of that microphone, there is a little picture of the controller button with one of the lights hilighted.

http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab40/kamikazemartian/microphonehr.jpg

Just so I can know if my mic is working without constantly tapping it, it'd be very much appreciated if the old mic symbol came back, at least as an option.

If, of course, there's some reason for the lil controller symbol that I don't know about, no biggie - I just liked the mic.

The player light is there for split screen. Is it really that much trouble to tap the mic, make a sound, plug it in and out, or turn on and off the switch for it?

No crouching required.
I'm fully aware of the snail's pace which is required to 5 shot someone across a map. It's not a matter of misunderstanding, it's just that it's everything Halo is not to me nor is it a more enjoyable evolution.

It appears the Shadowrun influence is really annoying some people. For me it's a nice change, I can always play Halo 3 if I want the more traditional gameplay.

I'm glad Bungie didn't take the easy (no pun intended) path with their last obligation to Microsoft. They could have just cranked out Halo 3.5 and called it a day, but they didn't. The changes feel so good and so fresh to me. I'm excited to play Halo again.

Nooo. I know. :lol

Sorry, I wasn't very coherent. I meant I wish all textures in the game, like the outside ground on Powerhouse had that amount detail. If I had one thing to complain about graphically it would be the occasional boring ground/rocks.

overall I think reach looks really nice
