Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Ugh, got a kill frenzy tonight in arena and since it was the last kill it didn't seem to count it on my stats. Even though it told me I got it.

I had something similar happen to me. My overkill was the last kill of the game and its not counted in my stats.

It's not a class based game. You have different armor abilities but each person is essentially the same with the same amount of life and abilities (outside of AA.)

Terrible wording I used there. I should have said a medic/healing/revive armor abilty. Adding something like this just for Spartans could really help balance Spartan vs. Elite game types.

I thin it will just be like the Beta, and be credit/ranked based. You need enough credits and a high enough rank to unlock armor. I hope they have hundreds and also allow for different leg permutations. That would be neat.

:lol

There's plenty of health on the map, and they respawn pretty fast. Whenever I needed health I found it fairly fast.

Also Elites vs Spartans is already pretty balanced. I have won and lost on both sides.

i know it's wishful thinking out of the small amount we got for Halo 3... but still, it would be cool. And when I say leg permutations... I don't mean completely different looking legs... just different styles.

Neither of those things will happen. Especially not together.

So last night I had a game end in a shitting tie. :lol Can't remember something like this ever happening to me in Halo 3. Basically at the end it was 49 - 48. I make a quick double kill with the shotgun, but I get beatdown at the moment I kill the second person (they were coming at me with 3 people).

I also had an awesome triple kill. I toss 2 nades at random and think nothing of it as the throws were totally off. I proceed to DMR some guy up top then all of a sudden: Triple kill. :lol I'm like wth just happened here? Upon inspection in the theater mode one nade actually bounced of that glass ceiling at the stairs in sword base and dropped directly in the lap of an enemy. And another enemy runs straight into my grenade that's lying there on the stairs.:lol

It's on my fileshare, but you really need to download it and follow the grenades.

The more I play the more I get frustrated by the bloom and damage radius of the grenades. The sole reason I always use AL is to survive those damn grenades.

You know what AA I would like? Well, it would surely make people rage, but a combat AA would be fun (for me at least). It would include the double melee, and a way to counter an opponents melee (kinda like the sword block).

Got to try out CvE Slayer on Sword Base. Doing so resulted in my first Overkill of the Beta, and my first Extermination ever, between Halo 3 and Reach. Those tasty, tasty humans. :D

I enjoyed it so much I rendered it twice, since I'm not likely to replicate the feat any time soon. :lol

Successful test. Probably gave them a flashback to Halo 1, when a sword-toting Elite instilled unbridled fear in the heart.
Awesome, I only have one in 3 (though part of the game got duped when I check online, so I have 2 medals), felt so good seeing that medal pop up - That should teach them to bunch up so much around there.

UltimaPooh said:
Yeah. I was okay at it in Halo 3 and 2... but in Reach... I'm like a surgeon with the DMR.

Same here. It just seems so much easier to kill people than it did in 3. I think this is why a lot of people are having a cry on the bungie forums.

All those people with supposed "leet skills" are unable to use the shitty net code to lag jump everywhere and instead they die, just like they are meant too.

It really isn't. Saying SvE Slayer is well-balanced is as true as saying Invasion, in its current form, is well-balanced.

... but Invasion is in its current form. The AR start does so much for the game. I have a 50% win ratio on Invasion. The balance is there. I have won as both sides many times. Why the hatin'? Oh it's Dax :p

Out of 15 games I've only lost 2 games of Invasion, I've been both sides pretty equally. Though I do find playing as an Elite is easier.

This page says it's up.

So maybe.

In SvE slayer the only advantage spartans have is starting with a DMR as opposed to a NR. Not even a contest, elites will win unless they're terrible.

In Invasion Spartans have:
Shotgun vs sword
grenade launcher
tank vs wraith
spartan laser
Sniper rifle

So it's more balanced. I haven't played enough Invasion slayer to say if it's balanced but even your average Halo fan can tell SvE slayer is broken.

Could it have been right after the last kill? The announcer will announce things like a kill frenzy or overkill after the game ends but it wont register in the stats of course.

I know, but dax was saying they were both not balanced. I was arguing that Invasion is, but SvE may not be (I have yet to play it)

Been away from GAF and Reach for most of the past week, finals & moving to another city getting really crazy.
Hopefully get back to it tonight :)
lolwut? We should totally study Reach's netcode as a case study for the Networking exam lol.

When Bungie say stressful conditions should I be worried about latency issues?

It's supposed to be unbalanced. Bungie's testing how superior the Elites are to the Spartans in a vanilla Slayer setting.

looks like the other thread is dead...

anyways

After playing the beta I went back and watched the Carnage Carnivale ViDoc.

I dunno if someone has already pointed this out but we're definitely going to play a campaign mission on a covenant's ship :D

Hopefully its also an Invasion map where Spartans attack the Covenant head on.:D

I think you might be onto something here:

The grenades are overpowered because Bungie's testing how overpowered they are.

The gunplay is loose and inconsistent because Bungie's testing how poor the gunplay is.

This Beta is supposed to be mediocre. Bungie's testing how mediocre the game is.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Seems like it would be a no-brainer, but they must want specific data for some reason. Still haven't played more than the one horrible game of it, though.

So, they should have put this stuff through a public beta before shipping the public beta.

Good grief, Eazy.

SWAT is kind of annoying for me because for whatever reason I have to die like 5 times in a row to get adjusted or something. :lol. I remember hearing it somewhere that a tip from i think David Ellis was to aim a little higher than I think I should. Seems to work.

Well somebody's not getting invited to the private Epsilon.

Aim for the forehead in SWAT, not the face. Headshot every time. I was pretty ambivalent about SWAT in H3, but I vote for it every time in Reach. Love it.

Yea, I'm not sure if it's a function of the auto aim, or if DMR bullets just hit low in the reticle, but that really seems to be the key with the DMR. Even when the DMR is bloomed out, the bullets hit pretty reliably in the lower 3rd, near the midline of the reticle. I was having a great game with it this morning.

So quitting ban hasn't totally sunk in yet, I had 2 quit out early in this CTF game, then a third quit out for the final round. Me defending the flag against 4. I held the line for this one epic round, including resetting the flag twice in the flag cap room.

if i think of Invasion as a replacement for Heavies (less serious gametype in general) and not as a replacement for classic Big Team, then i enjoy it more.

Three hours.

I won't be home early for today's fun, since I've got errands in town, but I look forward to it tonight. Overlook is a gorgeous map.

Somebody here said (luke?) that they'll have more types of armor customization than just the head/shoulder/chest available in the beta.
Yup.

I have to say, I'm really lookin forward to gen. defense, I really enjoy the third tier loadouts in invasion, and I really love the S vs E gameplay with them, but I really don't like the third tier vehicle play. This sounds about right to me.

Does anybody know what to do to earn Technician medals. Highlighting it says "perform an incredible feet in matchmaking" but, as awesome as that sounds, it doesn't help at all. I have assists and technician at rank 3 or whatever with most everything else at 2 and I'm just wondering what incredible things I've been doing so much! :lol

IIRC, Technician covers every medal not already tallied for other commendations.

Invasion is a far cry from being called "balanced." The vehicles, the loadouts, and the weapons available all need considerable modification.
