Halo: Reach |OT7| What are They to Say Now?

1) Turbo would be a terrible name. To the firing squad!
2) Certainly not opposed to a new mechanic, but Sprint would not be one I'd be looking for.
I'd much prefer a higher base movement speed, as other than running away/running to, Sprint didn't really effect combat in the Reach Campaign in an interesting way. Not a good core mechanic.
Evade.. could be suitable for certain enemies designed around it, but once again not hugely interesting right now.

Caffeine consumed, imagination running now.
We're all commenting on turbo, evade, etc. because we know the enemies, attack patterns, and everything else about the enemies we've been facing for a decade.

We have no idea what it'll be like in 4 and maybe it'll have a completely new approach to NEW enemies and something that we can't predict a new base trait for but will just be incredibly intuitive when they announce it. I think that's the biggest thing for me...we have no idea what's ahead and that's terrifyingly exciting.

I really hope CC's fourth task is "Crazy Action Sack gametypes" because Reach's Action Sack is AWFUL.

I like shotty snipers on countdown. Or any map actually id be happy if that stayed, everything else can go.

Is fiesta in action sack, i never get it if it is.

Also remove all custom maps Base maps + All DLC maps (no DLC required)

Played some Actionsack yesterday, and I ran into a party of 5 on Speedpile where my teammate was driving their sniper around in a Revenant, and my two legitimate teammates quit.

I don't even know why that gametype is in AS :/
People seem to want it because it gets voted for quite often. I don't mind playing it, other than I'm usually going into Action Sack to grind the Heavy Weapon commendation (Splockets, Dino Blasters, BOOM! Ball, and Rocket CTF), and it does nothing for that.

Shotty Snipers or Fiesta ?
He's talking about Shotty Snipers. I have never seen a Fiesta gametype in Action Sack. I don't think I've ever played a Fiesta gametype in Reach, for that matter, which is a shame, because I enjoy it from time to time.

Halo 4 campaign idea: 360-degree sprint. Limited use with cooldown. Can shoot/melee/throw grenades/jump while sprinting. Used to allow for "call and response" interactions with projectile enemies and to give Chief more dynamic movement options in general.

amazing or worst shit ever?

In general terms, I want the Chief to be agile, but not to the point where no enemy is a threat. Contrast Halo 3's hammer Chieftains, who were faster than us (OH SHIT RUN) to Reach's where we can sprint or fly away to safety with ease. It sucked a lot of the tension and challenge away from their encounters. So long as 343 is able to restore that element I don't object to the additional mobility, within reason. But they need to justify themselves in ways Reach's AA's did not.

I was pretty happy with how chief controlled in H1/H2/H3 i dislike alot of the fluff like AA's

Things like sprinting have no real basis in canon and that annoys me to some degree.

I'd say the AAs did add an element to gameplay of being able to actually flee combat and try a different approach without restarting to checkpoint. I would actually love to see AAs implemented in the encounter spaces of the previous Halos. I posted a while ago about my campaign playthrough of Halo 2, and on Outskirts I knew the glitches and escape routes, while my friend didn't. I was up top sniping and killing buggers over rooftops, while he was in the courtyards fighting Jackals. With Jetpack, I wouldn't have needed to go through all the hoops to get up there.

What I read: with Jetpack I could play the game the way they didn't intend for me to and find an easier way to break out of the level without having to remember pesky glitches.

So, I have confirmed that some maps not mentioned in the update are in there.

Deep Scream 9 (Anchor 9)

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=900845194&player=bearcats087

Downlinked (Condemned)

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=900949637&player=Phoenix6000

^ this one is funny since I put it together due to no Condemned submissions, and now I have no idea which map people are insulting me about in messages now.

Still looking for game links for:

Purgatory (Damnation) by Der Flatulator6
Quarantine (Prisoner) by Psychosis687
Quick and the Dead (High Noon) by Pete_the_duck and FyreWulff
Deathpoint (Breakpoint) by Gabotron ES

To see if any of the other ones snuck in.

No but those play spaces and encounters are built with the fact you cant go up their in mind. I understand what your saying you like the idea of multiple paths to encounters so if for instance you are in 4 player co-op 2 can take the walk way area and 2 can storm the courtyard which really is a nice idea but i dont think AA's have anything to do with that infact some would impede that or lessen the encounters, good level design is what matters in those type of scenarios.

For Halo 4 i like the idea of Pickup and reusable equipment with large cool downs and power weapon esq spawn times.

Active Camo (multiple use like current camo once charge has dissipated its gone until cool down is over) (3 mins)

Overshield (single use no recharge) (no cooldown)

Bubble Shield Grenade (thrown like a nade, bubble appears at destination, like assassinations you can hold LB and drop it at your feet or tap to throw) (3 mins)

Jetpack Multiple use like current jetpack, 2x the current jetpack "fuel" once all fuel is used large cool down period starts. (4 mins)

VISR MK II Tab LB to active shows outline of all players even through walls limited battery once empty medium length cool down period starts (2 mins)

Scrambler Single use Scrambles all enemy motion trackers for 40s-1min (4 min cool down)

Equipment dosnt drop on death once player dies holding them item respawn period begins

Or they could design the levels to be played in more than one fashion. AAs sucked in Reach's campaign, because there was one way through the level(they soft ceiling everything else) and as a result it was worthless to use any other AA. Although Halo 2 wasn't designed to be able to get out, it created an amazing experience once you did. Give me jetpack instead of breaking the game, and I'd be a happy person. That said, I wish there was an online version of the Halo 3 Legendary edition videos on mission design. One of the guys designed the opening scenario on The Covenant where you can hit the enemy head on or sneak up the side around the waterfall and flank them.

We missed ya last night. Lots o' BKs about.
It was just one of those nights where either I wasn't doing something right or the game was doing its best to screw me over. Sucks that I left, but probably better in the long run for my mental health.

The overshield and active camo worked so well in previous games because you couldn't choose when to use them. Once you ran over them, that was it, and you had to work with what you were given. This is why active camo is crap now; the camo guy can be anywhere at any time where previously he was functionally restricted to a radius around the AC spawn. Powerups acted and were activated in predictable ways (this is key) but could be utilized in unpredictable ways through player movement.

Also, bubble shields and other death-defying second-chance-at-the-press-of-a-button mechanics need to be killed.

If you want pickups that can deploy at the press of a button, stick with a couple staple novelties that don't directly affect your ability to A) Shoot dudes in the face or B) Get shot in the face. You want to design a radar jammer that works this time? Awesome. A single use movement advantage like the Gravity Lift? Great! I'm all for it. If you can press a button and be functionally invincible for 30 seconds? No. No, thank you. Pick a couple of tertiary systems, hammer away on them so they don't break everything else. No more tossing around equipment and crazy abilities like candy. Make them a useful, rare commodity.

Should have just played octagon with me ;)

We didn't really play too many games after that, and most were bad and had a bunch of guests/quitters. New BTB settings, same old hemorrhage voting :(

Also I totally agree with Havok on AA/equipment evolution for H4.

I just saw some Halo 4 concept art in the Primordium thread, and I have to say, even though I'm about as skeptical towards 343 Industries as I am trusting of Bungie, I'm still pretty fucking excited for Halo 4. New story, new campaign, new multiplayer, this year...how awesome is that?

Seeing the artwork in shitty compression? Ok.

I'm hyped for Halo 4 because I know it is going to be a FPS. I'm not really excited about Destiny because of the MMO rumors. But the other rumored stuff makes me to play it.

Agreed, I need more high-res stuff for my collection of rotating wallpapers.

Some of this art on conceptart.org WIP forum literally is making me cry; need moar Sparth.

No problem man...I haven't been to sleep and am half awake.

How about a more broad question: Would anyone be opposed to a new core mechanic in Halo 4? Not something conditional like dual-wielding or equipment or AAs. Something like the sprint (turbo might be a better term) idea that's always on - something as central and necessary as run/shoot/jump. Evade as a core mechanic would also work.

I personally wouldn't. It's a new trilogy, let's shake things up!!!!!

edit - FOR CAMPAIGN, I swear!
The gun that MC uses in the CG trailer that seems to have some sort of swap-out mechanism might be an interesting mechanic. Maybe I've been playing too much Arkham City, but having a grappling gun attachment might be all kinds of cool (Warthog skiing!).

...or maybe not, I'm only on my second cup of coffee.

I don't know how many of you guys use custom challenges, but have you actually paid attention to the cR rewards in-game? I completed some before going to bed last night, saw the change in my in-game cR this morning, went away a little while and came back and my cR count was back to what it was last night. Bizarre.

Also, does anyone know what the new cR daily cap is? I've noticed that if you hit the cap now, it doesn't give you an in-game message, and it still shows you earning credits at the end of each match, it just doesn't add them to your total at the bottom right of the screen. If you're in this situation, the game will also stop advancing your commendation progress (I believe this is the same behavior that occurs if you "time travel" backwards--set your time zone back to play a match at an earlier time than your last match).

I'll see if I can give a more detailed account.

You want Wired Reflexes from Shadowrun for Master Chief, I'm game. Wired Reflexes is awesome, maybe it could drain your Shields a bit every time you use it too to balance it for CAMPAIGN.

Shadowrun was fun. Keep Shadowrun out of my Halos though.

I can agree with that, I'd much rather 343 try to make Halo 4 like Halo 1, than like Shadowrun, I don't think you can pull off going half and half, it didn't work at all for Reach. I was just using Wired Reflexes from Shadowrun as a reference point, because that is exactly what he described, and he has played and enjoyed a lot of Shadowrun as well.

Ghaleon's post was about the tension of facing a Gold Elite in Halo 1 or the Brute Chieftain in Halo 3. None of the points you raised allow for that to happen given the nature of AAs.

No more AAs please, or none that alters player movement. Aside from maybe the gravity lift, none of the equipment in Halo 3 was able to give you a maneuverability edge.

Man, the grav lift was so fun.

Nothing like tossing one down in front of a 'hog about to run you over and sending it skyward.

If Halo3 didn't have just as many janky problems as Reach, I'd play it more.

Anyone good with PCs here? I'm wondering if I'm overpaying. (I guess you always overpay if you don't build it yourself!)

-Intel i7-2700K, quad 3.5 GHZ cores, 8 MB Cache
-Asus Intel Z68 based chipset ATX Motherboard
-8 GB Ram
-1GB Nvidia GTX 560 ti videocard

That's the main stuff I have no idea what it's really worth, the total of the system comes to 1500, and I'm doing it through Velocity Micro, don't know if anyone has dealt with them before.

What is the computer for and can you give more information, such a power supply and hard drive(s)?

-Intel i7-2700K, quad 3.5 GHZ cores, 8 MB Cache - $380
-Asus Intel Z68 based chipset ATX Motherboard - $130
-8 GB Ram - $35
-1GB Nvidia GTX 560 ti videocard - $230

About $750-800 for the components you mentioned.

Assuming it also includes;

Case ($50)
HDD ($100)
PSU ($120)

Is everything else + getting Velocity Micro to assemble it worth the ~$500 extra? You could build it yourself and save around $3-400. It's not too bad though for getting it built at that price though I'm no expert on the US companies and their usual rates.

I'm wanting a decent gaming machine, I'm not looking maxed out BF3 settings or anything, just something that can get me decent framerates and graphics in stuff like TOR, Diablo 3, etc.

It comes with a 700 Watt velocity micro power supply, and they go up by 100 dollar increments, what am I looking for there? The HDD is 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA 300 w/NCQ.

Dani, building it myself is out of the question, I'd cause way more trouble than it would help me, and I don't really no anyone that could assemble it for me either, so I'm ok with paying the luxury tax of them building it really. I just wanted to know if I was putting in any glaring flaws that would be outdated in a matter of months mostly. :p

The DELL XPS is 50 bucks cheaper, comes with 16 GB of RAM and a AMD Radeon 6770 card, but the processor is 2600 instead of 2700.

I have the 560 ti. I run games like Portal 2 and StarCraft 2 at the highest setting without a hitch. I have an i5 2500k clocked at 4.3ghz but it ran the same before the overclock. I can't imagine Diablo 3 and Old Republic are very needy. 1500 is a lot though. My system was 1500 but included a monitor and a capture card.

Also don't worry about the RAM. I have 4gb in my system and I have no issues. 8 is great to be safe but 16 is overkill

It's really not that hard, I truly believe you could do it yourself.
We should do it over Skype/tiny-chat.

Well if anyone knows of a place cheaper, let me know! Dell wants 1500 for less than that one in certain spots, I just found this place through a CNet review, lol.

ZOL, I know a cyber sex invite when I see one sir.

Sounds great if you're looking for a solid rig, the Dell XPS might be better for you, being slightly cheaper is good, the extra RAM will make a massive difference the more years you keep the machine running (just make sure you have the 64 bit version of Windows 7) and the 6770 will run any game you throw at it.

Which ever one you go with, you're looking at a solid 2-3 years playing the latest games with great graphical settings - it will probably last longer too. My computer from 4+ years ago is still going strong today although it does weep occasionally with all the new fancy looking games around. If I can hold out to next year before I upgrade I'll be happy.

No but really building isn't that hard at all. When you build the system, you know the ins and outs and when you wanna upgrade later to an SSD or upgrade your video card, you'll do it with ease. Build that shit son!

Its really not that hard to put together a PC, if you had someone on skype you really could likely put it together yourself with a bit of direction.

The stuff really only goes together one way ;)

Core i7 is a bit overkill, I have a rig I use for making, rendering, and animating 3d models and I have a core i5 @ 3.7 gHz. You'd save a lot of money on that alone, the 700 watt power supply is plenty.

Also try this card if they have it available wherever you are getting your rig
