Halo: The Fall of Reach Animated Series Trailer

The love for Halo fiction is weird and inspiring. Has any other novels-based-on-games yielded so much praise as Nylunds?

Pretty much none, the Drew Karpyshyn Mass Effect novels are well received but far from the recognition of Nylund's work. I heard the Dead Space novels are good as well but I haven't read them so can't say for sure. There are some gems in the Blizzard franchises like some of the Warcraft and Starcraft novels but the majority of them are meh.

I'm all in for a Blu-ray on day one. Video quality on the Xbox One Halo Channel is a little hit and miss for me, so the appeal of a digital copy exclusive to that service is a bit limited. I'm hoping that an eventual disc release actually happens and that this theoretical product also includes all of the Hunt the Truth episodes in some form!

are they going with the shitty way events unfolded in Halo Reach or will they stick to the books much better way of handling the ending?

I'm sure folks worked hard on this but the characters look emotionless and the animation looks rigid. It looks like a low-budget project (which is probably is and I'll admit I'm very unaware of how much money it would take to make a high quality CG short).

But the characters are fairly emotionless

I feel like a lot of other games novels never really caught on as much as Halo's. Though I did hear the Gears of Wars comics actually sold better than most other comics when they were coming out. xD

Did you think they were shitty or different? I prefer the Nylund take myself, but I didn't think the game version was particularly worse.

While I disagree with your summation, it's just book events. Noble team is not part of the story and in fact because the book is designed to drop readers off at the beginning of the CE game, we've actually adjusted it so there's no odd dangling dependency.

Well, actually one character from the Reach game may elicit a strong emotional reaction...

How can one watch this without having to purchase the LE?

Separate purchase via Xbox Video?

That will be one method.

Is it focusing on Red Team? Can't watch the trailer, at work. ;_;

Any plans on doing more animated series for other stories in the lore? I think it would be interesting to see this expand to the other books.

Mother-effer, I want radio-play style versions. Hunt the Truth is making the rounds even with people I know who don't care at all about games.

Genuine chills from watching that trailer. The Fall of Reach is a fantastic book, easily the best piece of 'expanded universe' content any franchise has ever produced. I hope Nylund writes another book some day.

Blue Team appearing in Halo 5 is so damn cool that I can barely contain my excitement. I wish Locke and his buddies weren't in the game at all really, I want all Blue Team all the time. #teamchief

Chief's face!

I know he isn't faceless in other media. Just never expected to see it. At least his adult face is still a mystery.
He's a cyborg. :-P

So no confirmation if this is going up on the 27th nor a price or length? :/

Only getting standard edition of H5

Going up on 27th along with Halo 5, price unknown, length is over 3 hours, will be available in other means.

I'm going to jump off The Long Night of Solace if it isn't

I dont mean to offend with what I called Halo Reach, I just have a very soft sport for The Fall of Reach book as it introduced me to expanded universe material and made halo into something incredible for me (same with I Love Bees). I felt Bungie basically gave fans a middle finger with how they handled the parts of Halo Reach that intersected with the book, basically tossing the book out.

After everything was said and done, and all the games out, The Fall of Reach was the best part of Halo to me, so things like this make me very excited but also very critical.

I always wondered what happen to Bungie during Halo 2 that made them unable to tell a compelling story anymore. Halo had the least amount of actual story of any of the games, yet it and the Fall of Reach were better at building a great universe. Halo 2's buildup of media and books was great also, but the actual game was the start of all the plot trouble and weird backtracking. Halo 3 felt like it repeated the exact same mistakes (hell if you draw out the plots they are basically the same, go to earth, go to a ring, end).

I applaud Halo 4 for trying something new and I feel alot of its trouble was from being tied to what Bungie did with 2 and 3, but I still have yet to see 343 do something amazing.

I'm at school right now and I can't open the video D:, can someone please give me a
transcript of the trailer please? the wait is killing me I need to see it but I can't :(

Edit: Nevermind I'm heading to my home now, my history teacher didn't came today :D

From the man himself

If you watch the three parts back to back it's more than an hour. All three available immediately at launch

will this be launched through the goddawful Halo Channel or whatever its called? I hate that app

Looks good. It would better if we could download it, instead of the bad quality streaming that we will get by watching it through the halo channel.

I read here that it's possibly an hour long show, so the type of animation your talking about would be very expensive. This appears to be like the animation used for Halo 4 terminals. However, I hope it turns out to be a little more animated than that. Motion stills type animation can be nice in short bursts, but there will be blowback from the casual viewer about that animation style, especially if the show is really that long.

Three parts though, so it is likely easier to digest in short segments if people don't want to watch it all in one setting.

Curious how the parts will be broken up.

Who is John?

I'd imagine as the story gets closer to present day, he will take over. Since it's seems like the story actually goes up to Halo 5.

Well the story is based off of the fall of reach book, so it will only go up until the end of the book pretty much, in which case i guess they will have one voice actor for john as a kid, and then hopefully teenage john will be steve, but man is that a deep voice to have as like like a 16 year old lol

but isn't that the art style that The Sequence Group uses or created, every piece of work that they have done for halo has used the same type of animation, so i don't think it is a case of not being able to do it, i just think it is the style that they decided to use

Well I know that, but the intro to the trailer looked as though it was from Halo 5. So odds are it will begin with Halo 5, begin the flash back which all of Fall of Reach, and then end with Halo 5.

just watched it, i see what you mean at the begining of the trailer

Saw some posts on r/games, shocked and annoyed that they would show Johns face and how's he supposed to faceless... It's like, "Guys, they described his face in the original novel in 2001, and then showed it in the comic adaptation, and then at the start of Halo 4 and then part of his adult face at the end of Halo 4. He's never truly been a faceless hero."

Why do people want him to be faceless? I never understood the appeal myself.
