You mean DataEast's Midnight Resistance.
Ocean made the conversion for Amiga, Atari, Commodore, Spectrum , and Sinclair.

No, I think he means the period where there wasn't a movie license in the world that Ocean couldn't transform into a joyless, forgettable side-scrolling action game.

I sent them a sprite set for a Twin Peaks platformer in some form of hilarious art-wank protest once, but the joke was on me, as I was always secretly upset that they didn't steal them and actually release a game.

You forgot how they managed to compose entire soundtracks (game sounds included) with the same two motherf*cking samples.

BLOING-PLOING-PLOING-BLO-BLO-BLOING-PLOING

Reminds me of the Halo Advance rumors last year.

Heh, they weren't rumors. THQ was going to release it and I know development actually began on it too. But after THQ publishing Oddworld and Banjo for GBA, they ended their affiliation with MS; it just wasn't profitable.

Really? Then who's going to publish Rare's DS games? Microsoft? Nintendo? Activision?

Didn't THQ publish Zoo Tycoon DS?

Wow. This game really captures the level design of the Halo games.

EDIT: And I don't mean that in a good way.

Midnight Resistance forever! I loved that blond jeep driver chick ;)

and ocean had some excellent games in the day. they had Navy Seal, it was one of the best Amiga games I played, well ahead of its time in terms of gameplay.

Oh god Ocean. I thought I purged them from my memory.
By that comment, I'm going to assume the sprite animation in this game is VERY VERY limited.

Damn, I've tried all day to post this on [SMB] but Blogger is being a little bitch right now.

Fuck you, Blogger. And btw the demo is worth the dl, by far.

Didn't Ocean eventually become Inforgrames (now Atari) or Eidos? I just remember them sucking on the NES :P

It was Infogrames.

I'll hate Ocean forever. I bought Tintin on the Moon for the Amstrad. I still want retribution for that.

Suckers.

Actually I retreat my previous statement. Claiming that someone's game is about as fun as an Ocean game is the bluntest thing you can throw to a developer, specially if the good pals are amateurs.

This game blows, and Bungie did it way better when it was called Abuse.

Abuse was f'ing awesome. I remember playing a demo on a 1001in1 CD, seeing an ad in CompUSA and buying it. Even the multiplayer rocked.

Ocean *did* publish some good games too...like Batman The Movie, Combat School, Pang, Parallax. Platoon, Rainbow Island... and on Amiga games like Epic, F29 Retaliator and of course the best Vietnam war game ever, The Lost Patrol.

Ah yes, Abuse was fantastic...but it was actually created by Crack Dot Com, not Bungie. If only there were a way to play Abuse at 60 fps (which should be standard for any side scroller).

Ocean also did Jurassic Park on SNES.....great music....
Aaah the music kicked ass! (though it was a little out of place)

Just played a bit of Halo Zero. The controls are aweful, but I had a smile playing through the first level. It was pretty cool seeing all that Halo stuff in an early ninetees games setting, although I'm sure that wears off quickly. Worth the download.

Also, online multiplayer?! We need to setup a clan asap! :D

Abuse is now open-source, right? Why didn't the creators of this just use that (superior) engine instead of making one from scratch?

Downloaded in ten, beat it in 30. I got my money's worth out of it.

The worst part about the game- remove the mouse aiming and it might actually be good.

Oh, well. You live, you learn, you buy Huggies.

Walker had mouse aiming, and I remember it being pretty good.

Abuse... Crack dot Com...wasn't that ddt's old company that went under?
yep. their old lead now does application virtualization, and i guess ddt works at id. bungie published the mac version but i guess they passed on the followup project (which was an over-imagined turd, as far as i can tell), as i don't think they ever found a publisher for it.

Do you have any sort of information on their cancelled project?
