I know it will not be like the first one, but as long as its fun. I will be happy.

I wonder if Sandler feels some reverence for this IP or if it's just another entry on the list of films that he's made for Netflix - he might have pulled out all the stops for this one.

I am sure he loves the movie and character, but he has to make movies for Netflix. So he is obligated. He also keeps putting his kids in everything, which is understandable, but you can spot them immediately in anything they are in. Nepocasting.

his production company is Happy Madison. He knows where his bread got buttered.

He doesn’t have to do anything. He’s worth almost half a billion from his Netflix deal. He’s the most successful SNL alum from his era by far.

Sure, but he didn't have to make THIS movie - unless it was part of the deal. And if it was part of the deal, the question is, did he say "well, we need a bigger budget for this one, because I need to push the production values up" etc. etc. HG2 will make bigger waves than just about any other film that he's partnered with Netflix on, and everyone will have known it when it was agreed - I'd be surprised if Sandler would just give the IP away for the same rate he negotiates for other films. So I think it's unlikely that it's just another movie to either party.

Having said that, even if it was just another movie on the list, a large part of Sandler's success is undoubtedly in making his movies through his own company, which you mention, where he can set budgets and margins - it's possible that he could have been prepared to invest more heavily in this film than he would do normally, by way of reducing the margins, if he does love the film and character, as you say.

Sandlers output of late has been utter shite, I doubt he has any stops to pull.

Well, quite.

It obviously sells though, bizarrely enough. It seems weird that he can put out something like Uncut Gems and it be raved about, but most of his life he spends making less well regarded stuff.

His deal said he had to make movies for NETFLIX. He has to do something for Netflix unless the contract is complete.

He could also go back to well because they are all creatively bankrupt.

Loved Uncut Gems, forgot about that. Seems like a move into serious drama might have been the way to go creatively rather than taking the Nextflix dollars.

I think he's done a couple of straight movies - I remember watching one called Reign Over Me, which I thought was pretty good, and I wonder how driven he is to become a drama actor, arguably he's proved himself already and He must enjoy his work, because it's extremely unlikely that he needs to work now, so I expect he just does what he enjoys on a schedule that works for him.

I imagine he has a much better life than the average poster here. I'd make Click 2, maybe Even Jack and Jill 2, for significantly less money than he would.

I’ve not seen that one, but I’ve heard it’s quite good, and apparently has arguably the most respectful depiction of a video game ever, as to my understanding Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle’s characters are frequently playing Shadow of the Colossus, and the themes and emotions of the game mirror the themes and emotional struggles Sandler’s character goes through in the film. Really need to get around to watching it, sounds promising.

Eh. At least you can probably say that this isn't one of those times where they put everything funny in the trailer, because I didn't laugh even once.

I don't think Sandler has it in him anymore, but the first one was one of my favorite comedies for a while back in the day.

Im in, it will a formulaic Sandler movie but ok with me.

I’m guessing happy falls on hard times and must win money.

Why does he seem so tired and lethargic? He's not even 60 years old but acts like he's 75 in that trailer. Voice sounds raspy and weak.

Think about it from like a... "if this were my job" perspective and you have two option:

A) A harder / more difficult job that will pay less, but will earn you respect and admiration from your peers and the public and be known as someone great at your job.

or

B) A similar but much easier job that pays a lot more, people will still generally like you but you won't be recognized as the class of your profession.

I think most people go with 'B'

Basically this scene summarizes what happens. I think it becomes pretty clear with the moving van, and 'Happy' standing there with a box of stuff that he is getting evicted from his house, unless he can cough up a bunch of cash. Honestly, it doesn't get more complicated than that.

Looks like Sandler is gunning to take the "worst overdue sequel" crown from Zoolander 2.

Up Next: "Billy Madison The Second" This time, It's Billy Madison's lazy son: Billy Jr. who has to go through school to keep the family business, or some shit. Billy Jr played by: Max Kessler. Tag line: 'Like Billy, Like Billy Jr.'

Things get a bit more complicated when you consider things like already being worth more money than you could realistically spend in a lifetime and having some kind of artistic sensibilities though.
