Miers is a Christian nutcase. I am a centrist, but I hope Bush picks a new person. I would prefer an economically conservative person who isn't a Christian nutcase.

I just hope the Senate does the right thing and not confirm her, but Bush being a Christian nutcase him self, will probably just nominate another Christian notecase.

Are you kidding? One of the strongest principles which our government was founded on was preventing a "tyranny of the majority". Putting an issue like that to a national referendum is a horrible idea. Contrary to popular belief, the government is supposed to act on the best interests of it's people, not to do what the majority wants. That's why it's not a true democracy.
Exactly.

Man, people keep losing the plot. Miers' stance on abortion is not the issue. The fact that she is UTTERLY FUCKING UNQUALIFIED to be on SCOTUS is the issue.

Ever been a judge? No.
Contributed anything of note to the law during your career? No.
Any evidence of intellectual distinction? No.
Picked for any reason other than cronyism and gender? No.

People across the political spectrum ought to be opposing this on principle, not on politics.
I basically agree. And I find the "just trust me" type admonishments by Bush and many of his supporters condescending and somewhat offensive.

As for prior Judicial experience, that really shouldn't be taken in itself as a reason to dismiss a nominee. There have been 41 Supreme Court Justices who had no prior judicial experience before joining the Court, William Rehnquist, Joseph Story, Earl Warren etc.

However, one can see the limited number of those coming out of private practice.
