Remember when Chris Hardwick, one of the nicest people around, lost 90% of his work and reputation because an ex admitted that they had a shitty relationship? And then it turned out to not even be true (at least not in the ways she claimed)? Or the time TJ Miller lost some gigs because he maybe, possibly was an asshole to people who happened to be women on a movie/TV set (rumor is he's a dick to everyone, not just women, but whatever)?
The mere possibility of being a jerk gets people cancelled these days. It's pretty ridiculous.

I am not defending this guys' stupid use of twitter. However, I can empathize a bit, and I fear running into this situation in the future.
To protect myself, I deleted all my social media accounts years ago and GAF is the only place we're I speak my mind. I chose GAF because discourse from many different POV's is allowed and also because it is not connected to my real identify. If you are using your real identity to speak your mind online, then you are only waiting for these disasters to happen. Sometimes you won't even cause trouble, but if someone has a vendetta against you, then you are fucked.

I thought TJ Miller called in a bomb threat against some woman he had got into a fight with while drunk on a train. Being an asshole does not equal causing law enforcement to waste time on anti terrorist operations and risking people's lives and getting entire trains of passengers stopped.
Not that I won't watch stuff he is in, but it's not surprising that people might not want to risk working with him.

In Australia, instances of defamation's statute of limitations is, worst case, four years. Seven years from date of disappearance is enough to be declared legally dead. These tweets were from, what appears to be, six years ago. If the actor has been on the show for a while and had no history during his time of undue behaviour, comments, or actions, I'd think he's owed the benefit of the doubt to explain himself and apologise. My two cents.

Apparently shows like these have what people call "stans" which is short for stalker fans, and they get obsessed with characters of their choice. In this case, Candice Patton/Iris West stans are metaphorically gunning down other characters in order for their character/actress to get more focus.
If you can't pull a gun and shoot someone to death, just sign into a social media account and get them cancelled.

Normally I'm against cancel culture, but those are kinda fucked up. It's a tough call. Media relies on viewer numbers, so they have to take these things into more consideration I guess. There should be policies about deleting social media accounts before starting work, and just create a new one.
