The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Movie release: May 28
DVD release: Sept 7

That's what... 3 mos, 2 weeks about?

Talk about desperate to try to turn a profit....

EDIT: Wrong forum, move please!

Oh my god a mod made a mistake

In before 500 post thread about how poor movie seasons are ruining gaming and how the 16 bit era will never return

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
It's pretty common for movies that bomb to go to DVD faster. DVD is where most films make their money. To use the initial marketing budget (used for theatrical promotion) to help promote the DVD saves a ton of $$$.

Yes I know I'm just saying 4 mos is the shortest I've usually seen the jump from movie to DVD. This one beats that by a bit.

I know this is a bit before DVD, but to provide an example of a movie that wasn't a bomb... didn't Indepence Day come home pretty quickly? Theaters in July, VHS in November?

13 going on 30 came out on DVD pretty damn fast as well. Do the math Darien.

<Sigh> There is no math to do everyone knows that bad movies hit DVD quickly in an attempt to recoup costs.. I'm simply saying does anyone know one that hit faster?

13 Going On 30 hmm I just did the count and if I did it correctly it's got the same time period as Soul Plane 102 days from movie release to dvd release.

I thought about 4 months was the average for a DVD release? I mean, obviously movies like the Passion of the Jesus(heh) and Return of the King are gonna take longer.

I don't think this is quite that fast. Not as long as a major blockbuster, but for a poorly performing film I'm surprised it took as long as it did.

4 mos is usually the average for "regular" movies apparently. I think I'll check box office takes on the movies we've mentioned in here to see how they stack up.

EDIT:
Interesting... ok one of these movies doesn't belong based on box office take vs. budget:

Soul Plane
13 Going on 30
New York Minute

Here's each movie with it's box office take and estimated budget:

Code:
Soul Plane $13,922,211 $16,000,000
13 Going on 30	$56,044,241 $37,000,000
New York Minute	$14,018,364 $30,000,000

All 3 movies took 102 days to go from big screen to small screen... I wonder why 13 going on 30 got pushed so quickly?

A bigger movie takes 6 months to hit DVD. 6 Months after that is hits cable.

Dawn of the Dead took a while.

I think "The Yards" was the fastest I have ever seen a movie go from theater to video. I think it was 2 months.

Are you in the US? The Yards saw limited release in the US in October 20, 2000. It never went widespread, and didn't receive a US DVD until Buena Vista Home Vid
on November 19, 2002 and then Miramax Home Entertainmenton January 13, 2004.

I didn't mean that as an insult. I genuinely wanted to know, but was to lazy to look it up. Thanks for the leg work :)

haha, you started the thread... it was something I was curious about, though.

But remember a while ago I said I would stop insulting you? I'm a man of my word :D

I know I saw a trailer for it in the theater that November December of the year it was released. Then not 2 months later I saw the poster advertising the video. This is Canada so maybe they did some crazy release here.
