Has the Switch 2 lost its mobility?

I knew it had gotten bigger, but I was quite surprised at how much bigger it is now. I took the Switch 1 with me from time to time and had no problems with it. That would never happen with the Switch 2, sure I can still use it at home, but taking it somewhere. It's just far too big for that'.

It is now in the same territory as the Steamdeck where it can only be used at home. Atleast for me. How do you see this?

You're wrong about the steamdeck.

I don't like bringing any my gaming system outside my house, so I have no issue with size of Switch 2.

i use portability to play games like Bravely on my bed before going to bed.

I can't imagine a person who can transport a Switch or Switch OLED but can't transport the Switch 2.

That's really riding the razor's edge there.

None of the Switches are pocketable. All are easily backpackable.

Why is it too big again? The Switch 1 wasn't exactly a pocket sized device. Switch 2 will need a case for travel and you pull it out when you are resting. None of the handhelds on the market are too big in that regard.

I prefer smaller handhelds like the Vita, PSP, DS or GBA, those were truly portable, and I never had an issue with their screen sizes. The Switch 2 is pretty big, but I've gotten used to taking the Steam Deck out with me every now and then, and it's fine. I'd probably do the same with the S2.

Size no, 2.5 hour battery life, yes. That's with a fresh one at launch, as it starts degrading we are going to be seeing play times of 1.5 to 2 hours which is often not enough to get you through a flight, long car ride, or train commute. A portable power bank is basically mandatory.

Really? I think the Switch 1 was already on the edge for that.

I never thought the original Switch was all that portable in the first place. It's backpackable, but a backpack isn't something I carry on a day-to-day basis.

The Switch 2's carrying case is easier for me to carry than the Switch 1's, and the device itself has a more comfortable grip. So I disagree. I take it everywhere, and I recently traveled by train.

Why would it matter? You couldn't fit an OG Switch in your pocket, this is no different.
Exactly, not being pocket sized doesnt hinder portability.

I bring my switch 2 to work with me every day so taht i have something to do during my breaks and its not hard to do, grab a case and just carry it around or put it in a back pack.

Some people act like its the equivalent of lugging around a laptop

This. Or when you go to the shitter.
100% used for on the pooper. Second use is more when I want to do some gaming when the weather is nice outside or trips. With carrying cases and/or backpacks, I don't get the complaints about portability just because something doesn't fit loosely in a pocket, otherwise we all know the Game Gear Micro would be king. Battery life however...

It is the combination of both the size and weight for me.
That 1" diagonal and 136g the straw that broke the camel's back. You tried to get it out the door but fell backwards. Luckily the dirty tube socks you forgot to take out cushioned the fall and the S2 is still intact. Close call. Is that how it went?

Every kid has an iPad these days they take with them on family trips. This is smaller.

For those 5 adults playing their 3ds at the train station they have their mobile phones now.

Can't imagine many adults walk around with a portable gaming device in their pocket.
The things when I go outside it hard for me properly enjoy games because I need to be aware my surroundings it just makes it hard to fully immerse myself in the game.

Besides as much as I love gaming, when I go outside I'm there do something other than gaming.

Not quite as dramatic but basically the same.

it's fine. What's not fine is how awful switch 1 games look on a 1080p screen.

Whats not fine is that there are sweet fuck all switch 2 games to play

I love my deck - no way I'm running out of games to play there, but it's bulky as hell

Switch 2 face b and y buttons are hard to press at the same time btw. The right thumb stick blocks you. I can't help wonder if they didn't have the new chat button if this wouldn't have been a problem

Yeah, I'll only take my devices with me if I'm going out of town and play them in the hotel/apartment when I have downtime. I have sturdy travel cases for them that I throw in a backpack. Easy peasy.

do people actually walk around in public with their console? I'm never out long enough to even bother with it except a vacation and even then i probably wouldnt use it much

Even when handhelds were small I never seen people out with them.
I mean, I doubt people take them out to sit in a park and play. But they do use them on long commutes to work, on trains for example. I travel a lot and occasionally stay in hotels, and it gives me something to do when I'm back at the hotel after a long day. There are many scenarios were the devices portability becomes practical. But yeah, it's not often you'll see someone out with one.

Chess games and crazy hard riddles are perfect for me when playing outside. Complex games don't make sense to me, even platformers are complex to me.

Yeah, Switch 1 wasn't any more pocketable. While Switch 2 is a bit larger, it's not significantly so considering you will need a bag anyways.

I bring a Switch 1 or Steam Deck on vacations and business trips all the time, and it really doesn't matter all that much which one I take size wise.

Apart from the occasional trip to the family cabin I never bring my portables further then my porch, so size is of no consequence for me.

Comfort, battery-life and a clear, bright, screen are what I'm after.

Ig I'm ever put and about and need to kill a bit of time I got my smartphone.

Here are my three handhelds and out of them all I'd have to say that the DS is the most pocketable.

I hope we can get a proper Switch 2 Mini this time around. Something that's closer to the DS. Maybe it's impossible due to the pixels and text readibility. But I do miss the real handhelds in a way.
