Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

It might be easier for you to focus on the half-rhythm you are playing with your dominant hand and just fill in the blank in the rhythm with the other. I didn't think Cat Food's condensed notes were particularly fast though...

Not to brag (ok, I'm bragging) but I can get perfects on Negaposi and Unhappy Refrain with my right hand. Extreme is still too hard for me to even be consistent, though.

What are your best one handed? I know there must be some one handed Extreme Perfect freaks out there, LOL.

I beat all the way through hard without using the other side of the vita for notes(aside from the dual star swipes). That being said, I'm going to restart from easy training myself to be able to use both...I find it so hard I'm failing songs on easy with my left

Anything that doesn't get stupidly fast for long periods of time is doable.without alternate tapping. Anything past a certain speed is going to be impossible though, just because you're not going to be able to get the button down and back up in time >.>

Heh, don't sweat it. We all start somewhere. Also, you picked an awesome song to Perfect, so bonus points for that. Plus, it's not like all of us here are perfect players. The only Extreme songs I've managed to Perfect, for example, is Packaged, the easiest of the second game.
Missed that by a single note this morning, damn it. Packaged is definitely an easy song on Extreme though. It's only seven stars!

So I've only just begun making my way through f 2nd (Rayman Legends is phenomenal, especially on Wii U and Vita). The unlock grind was getting a bit boring, so after clearing Clover Club I decided to play the Hard and Extreme charts. Hard gave me no trouble, but...

what.

the.

hell.

The lightning-quick transitions between button taps and screen swipes seem near-impossible, and the mind games of sudden speed changes are just gross. Is this representative of Extreme in 2nd, in general...?

f 2nd feels a lot harder than the first. I feel like a lot the songs in the first one outside of a few were just fast, but if you could keep up, you were fine. In 2nd there's a lot more changing up of the beat and swapping between note types to trip you up. I can excellent most songs in f, but only great or below in 2nd

Whoa, didn't know you could adjust the calibration on the Vita version of the game.

I think you may have just picked a bad song to play for your first extreme chart, since Clover Club just has those awful link scratches and one of the harder scratch/regular note sections.

Link scratches are a piece o crap, though. I think like half of the songs in the game have no link scratches or not-really-terrible link scratch sections on Extreme. It's pretty bad, but I've played through the songs enough times that it's not really that big of a deal. I really hope that they get taken out in future games.

I think link scratches could be improved greatly if they add a conventional falling star toward each link - maybe at half-opacity and/or only appears at the halfway mark toward the target, but -something- that gives a better hint at what the timing of each link is supposed to be.

The calibration is mostly for Vita TV players, doesn't serve any purpose on a Vita.

Something I've always wondered about Project Diva Arcade: how does Sega get away with using PlayStation button icons? Do they have a special license from Sony Computer Entertainment to use them? Or is Sony also involved in this version of the game somehow (does it run on PS3-based hardware)?

I can't imagine Sony being OK with the PS button icons being used on a non-PS platform, they are a big component of the PS brand. Pretty sure their shape and color are copyrighted and all.

Project DIVA does not use, and has never used the exact colors/shapes found on the PlayStation controllers. The icons in-game are both shaded and much thicker, and are only found in Project DIVA. And while there is a resemblance, you're still talking about shapes that are constantly used all over the world in thousands of places.

Project mirai also uses icons to represent the 3DS' buttons which are similarly different from the buttons themselves.

So I don't think there's any potential legal challenge here.

Also, now that I've played meltdown on Extreme, I can see that not every Extreme chart in 2nd is ridiculous. Whew.

It's a blue cross, a pink square, a green triangle, and a red circle. Surely that's similar enough?? There's no way you can claim with a straight face that these are not the PS icons. I still believe that there's gotta be some agreement between Sega and Sony in there. Companies have sued other companies over "brand confusion" claims for much more vague concepts than this one.

I am not a lawyer, but if company X were to sue company Y for some sort of infringement, wouldn't they need to somehow demonstrate that company Y was causing some sort of monetary loss or brand damage in order to succeed in court?

AFAIK, Sony does not have any sort of arcade presence, and Project DIVA Arcade doesn't seem to be in direct competition with any sort of console games, so I'm not sure that this could be doing any sort of damage at all.

Beyond this: even if Sony felt that Sega had acted improperly, I personally feel that it'd be better for them to do nothing than to risk harming their relationship. The other reason I don't think a lawsuit is called for: if Sony's legal teams thought it'd be a good idea, they'd probably have done it already.

Quite honestly, I've played enough video games on enough platforms that I don't think about brand loyalty any more. I've never even thought of Project DIVA as a PlayStation property, despite the fact that it's exclusive; I just think of it as a rhythm game series. When I see the button icons I just think "This is what I need to press!" =)

So wait, I bought the 6 song pack for Diva F, and it says that it comes with extra modules, but I've perfected a song in normal, hard, and I've made a standard in extreme, but the modules haven't unlocked yet?

They are automatically unlocked once you buy the DLC. Don't need to do anything.

The game doesn't tell you. But it'll do the job for you!

1. Pick a song in Song Select
2. Choose "Customize"
3. Pick "Part Selection Menu"
4. Select "Recommended Set"

The game will automatically assign the module(s) meant for the song you picked. Note that this only works if you're already unlocked the module(s); if you haven't, "Recommended Set" will be greyed out. This works in both Project DIVA f and f 2nd.

Quick Weekly Diva Station update today: a new gameplay skin is now available for download for F 2nd:

140423_001.jpg

Like the previous DLC skins, this one will be available free of cost for 39 days; you have until June 1 to grab this one before they start charging for it.

Speaking of DLC being charged for, they also remind everyone that the first wave of DLC (some skins and Live/AR songs) will stop being free on May 4. Grab it if you haven't already!

Is it just me or do all skins suck. They're all too big, which gets in the way of properly seeing the PVs.

I want skins that are just as compact as the default one.

Finally have every song on Hard on Excellent or higher and only have 5 songs left in Pdf 2nd on extreme but those will probably take a long time for me.

Yesterday I went back for the first time to Pdf "1st" and realized how much better I have gotten/how much easier the first game is. (I think its a bit of both)

I haven't found one I liked over the default one yet. Certainly not one I would use all the time.

Did f have the information board? That has to be the best feature ever.

Project Diva F platinum, GET!

It's also my first platinum :)

Now, if I could at least get a perfect on a single song in Extreme.... *sigh*

f doesn't have the information board.

I think the only skin I liked is Rin (Red&Black) and maybe the Platinum skin.

FUCK. NEGI POSI. ON. EXTREME. I have never felt so frustrated playing a rhythm game in my life. Stupid ass chart has no rhyme or reason to it and it;s just a mish mash of random notes thrown altogether. Absolutely disgusting.

What? NegaPosi follows the vocals rather precisely on Extreme.

Dear gaffers.

I passed an eye over the pages after F2nd's release date, but couldnt see an answer for this:

(In the art gallery) How do I unlock these ones at the very bottom?
I suspect "Skins" at the shop, but I dont want to waste DP without being sure. (I hope it's not unlocked via edit mode, cause I have a european PSN linked to my vita)

All the ones you are missing are random loading screens.

Lol, really? I thought there was some other way to unlock them. What is the probability of having the last 5 of them together(and at the very end) after all? :D Thanks a bunch. All I need is some more patience then.

If you're really desperate to get them, deactivate automatic saving and enter somewhere where loading times are short, like the info page and then exit. Keep entering and exiting until you get them all (you should get a trophy, I think? Unsure if the game has the same set of trophies as the first one). You should get them relatively quick.

So PlayAsia finally shipped my copy of #2, and damn this seems a lot harder than F1... I was frequently losing even on the early stages on Normal mode. Lots of songs seem a lot faster, and some of them with strange time signatures (Blackjack for instance).

Also is there a way to turn up the contrast? The backgrounds are even brighter and more colorful in this one, making it harder to see the notes.

I'm liking the second one so far, but those linked star notes muff me up with their different speeds. I prefer the first f's song list, but this is fine too.

Wow, after a long enough time, I finally switch scratch notes from the screen to the sticks...
SO much easier to hit them via sticks.

Edit: Also, I'm absolutely loathesome at dual-wielding... So I'm thinking I should try to go through a mode with just using my left hand instead of my right, to build possible muscle memory... or something @_@

I hate double posting, but thought it would be worth asking...
I have extend, f/F, and F 2nd... Would it be worth it still to pick up Diva 2nd (PSP obviously)? I know there's a lot of overlap between songs when counting extend and F 2nd, compared to Diva 2nd.

Still vastly prefer touch screen to sticks. If I could play the PS3 version with the touchpad mapped to scratches somehow, I would.

DIVA 2nd is still the only way to play Promise. Don't you want to play Promise?

... That is true...
It also has the true version of PoPiPo which I love...

Anywho, I think I'll definitely consider picking it up then. Going to Tokyo in a couple of months, and gonna see what things I may potentially wish to grab while there.

So, kinda off-topic, but I feel like going on a vocaloid binge. Can some people recommend me some albums?

I do know that I like mitchie M and sasakure.uk. Also mostly pop and electronic. I don't think rock works all that well with vocaloid.

Unless you have specific artists/songs in mind, the EXIT TUNES Presents Vocalo____ collections are probably the best way to get a good sample of what's popular in Japan.

Also, this just reminds me that I need to pick up Shime Deadline already.

anyone got any tips for getting the clear I'll Miku Miku You (For Reals) with 39 of cool, fine, sad or worst? i tried getting 39 worst but i can't get enough just to get standard to pass the song, i've tried it on all 4 diffs as well
