Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

I just realized today that I had never redeemed the code for the DLC Live songs that Amazon gave me for pre-ordering the game. So I just downloaded it and listened to Odds & Ends with the translated lyrics for the first time. Man, it's even more beautiful now...

Hey all, here is something I want to share with you guys, it's a very simple JavaScript-based HTML app I wrote a few days ago, that I call the "Project Diva F Maximum Failure Calculator".

http://pastebin.com/ZNujUh1R (updated 10/3: fixed colors)

Basically, you enter the total note count of a F or F 2nd song (as seen on the results screen), and whether or not you have passed the Chance Time and the two Technical Zones, and it will compute for you the highest amount of notes you are allowed to fail in order to reach a Standard, Great, or Excellent grade.

This script can be helpful in a situation where you are having trouble finishing a song and wondering by exactly how many notes you're away from a Standard, or in cases where you're working on improving your current grade on a song and want to have an idea of how much you need to improve upon to get a Great or an Excellent.

It's purely client-side driven so it doesn't need to run on a server, you can just download it to your computer and open it directly with your Web browser. (I should probably find a more suitable host than pastebin in the near future)

You may want to adjust your calculator for songs that do not have two technical zones (e.g. popipo special edition only has one, and I've seen edits with three). The number of technical zones do not change the fact they are worth six clear points, but the value of each technical zone changes to add up to six points total.

Uh I never noticed that poppipo special edition only had one, but it makes sense considering how short it is. Anyway this is too uncommon to bother with. As far as I know, every other non-Easy official song always has two.

And I don't really care about Edit songs, they can do anything anyway, including not having a Chance Time and such.

I don't think that is true. Edits can have up to 9 technical zones (or even zero) and I'm pretty sure every one is worth 3 grade points. Thus technical zones and chance time can take up to 32 grade points. In such edits clearing technical zones is much more important than having an overall high accuracy if you want to clear the song.

The Hatsune Miku facebook page posted dates for Magical Mirai 2015 in September. 4-6th. It'll be at Nippon Budokan, which will look a lot more impressive than the weirdly school gym-esque arena for Mirai 2014 in Osaka.

I just wish I could click "join" in addition to "like" on the event. :( :( :(

Look what Mr Postman brought me........

Blown away by the concert, quite a few songs that I hadn't heard in previous BDs I own so that was good. The band were incredible - the drummer beats those skins like theres no tomorrow, and the female keyboardist is just God-tier.

Stand outs for me amongst many great performances - Acute, Hello Worker.

I watched the Magical Mirai 2014 when it was free for PS+ in Japan (that happened during the GGXrd demo so I used the 14 day trial to get both) and I found it pretty underwhelming, especially compared to the previous year which I own on Bluray and watched multiple times as it's my favorite Miku concert so far.

Wait, when did they play Acute?

I just bought the live album by itself and that's definitely not on it.

Apologies, I meant Akatsuki Arrival !

Each to their own, certainly not gonna argue with you about 2013 being awesome, has been easily my favorite up to now. 2014 just seems a bit more 'punchier' - even the more electronic dance tunes like Weekender Girl have a bit more oomph to them.

When I saw Akatsuki Arrival in the set list I was hyped as fuck, but then their rendition of it just didn't "click" with me. I think it had to do with the choice of instruments they had. In any case it was definitely a "cozier" show, at a smaller venue. Maybe I should watch it again, in better quality (those BDs just aren't cheap though).

Tell me about it - I budget a few weeks in advance!! The BDs themselves or more expensive than regular film releases, then theres the P&P and import charges.

Just release them in the UK dammit!!

I think most of all, Mirai 2013 marries solid performances with great spectacle. The super wide glass wall and stage makes songs like Shake It feel so convincingly alive, because they can spread the characters out while they're still interacting. The arena is wonderful, too, with seats/people all the way up the walls, making for this huge, black ocean full of glowsticks, waving in unison. In terms of just showing off the live concerts, I always reach for Mirai 2013 when friends wanna know what all the fuss is about. (And by fuss I mean mostly my facebook spamming/raving about it :>)

I'm comfortable buying additional concerts for songs that aren't featured in that, or simply the same songs performed in different, interesting ways. It's probably going to be a while before the whole thing comes together the way Mirai 2013 did. Fingers crossed for 2015, though. Venue is more impressive again.

I wonder if there are some reliable sales numbers out there for the Project Diva games. Anyone?

I don't have the numbers with me but I follow the Media Create threads (ie. sales stats in Japan), and unfortunately I can tell you right now that F 2nd was the worst selling Project Diva game ever :(

The Project Mirai games didn't do so hot either.

That's too bad but not really surprising considering F2nd is already the fifth game in the series in a rather short timeframe (with half the songs being recycled nonetheless).

But maybe the recent success in the west will serve as an additional incentive for more Diva games. And I'm sure they will want to do something on the PS4. Who knows, maybe we will get some news with the fifth anniversary of the Sega x Miku project (in July I think?).

I don't think it is really fair to label F 2nd the worst considering there is a major factor in its release that did not occur before: it is the first game in the series to launch simultaneously on two platforms. I think this caused much less double dipping than what existed for DIVA f/F, where there was both a five month and a content gap, so the sales were effectively split among the two platforms. If you assume the majority didn't double dip and simply add the two together, you get a number in line with what the series has historically sold.

The next game should definitely be all new content, and Sega should take the time to get that right. Dump the new mechanics that didn't work out and build other ones. Don't compromise on the song list. Have the entire roster of updated Vocaloids.

If they're really reusing the Project Diva mechanics for this new game, I would think that it's because they know it's a successful formula.

Doesn't this show that a staggered release is better for them since they get more sales overall? To me, it seems like the PS3 version being released later acts like a "GOTY" re-release, where people are willing to buy the game again or even for the first time with DLC included.

Well, that's only part of the puzzle. F 2nd is clearly also an experiment in finding out how much can be made from DLC sales; DLC has been attempted before but not nearly to the degree F 2nd pushed it. The strategies employed back in Japan and internationally differ as well; in Japan there is no season pass and everything is much more expensive. I suppose time will tell how successful this strategy has been. I know I was buying 5000 yen PSN codes literally every month for a while just to keep up, but there is just no way for any of us to know how well the DLC really did.

(Speaking of DLC, if the last Weekly Diva Station update is to be believed we could potentially be hearing about what may very well be the last F 2nd DLC batch within the next 12 hours.)

I also don't think reverting back to a staggered release schedule is practical anymore; it could be seen as anti-consumer and introduce its own problems.

14th DLC!

To celebrate 1st anniversary, Golden Miku is free if you bought all DLC songs.

More importantly - this is coming out, unusually, on 3/31 (technically fulfilling their "next DLC in March" promise).

The P-Style CG module will be available for download between 3/31 and 6/23. It will be available for sale normally at some point after the campaign period. More information on that campaign here: http://miku.sega.jp/f2/vita/dlc_campaign.html

Also, you can see a digest video of all F 2nd DLC here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8drX1J4hRc

(Not certain things are over, and I'm surprised there is no Shoushitsu on the DLC list...)

So this is it then. Personally it feels like the DLC goes out on a whimper but I take what I can get. The Song club turned out to be a pretty sweet deal with paying only 25€ instead of 40€.

Yeah, that's a bummer.

I'm waiting for some of the people that can actually read Japanese to wake up, but it doesn't sound like they actually stated they are done.

[08:11] <duckroll> Distribution of "Extra Data" will stop at this point. Thank you for all your support, and please continue supporting Miku MoeMoe Garbage Crap in the future as well.

lol

For what it's worth, I have another person telling me the exact opposite. So the situation is... confused, at best.

I'm going to ford into work through the snow now.

I was still hoping for that wonderful Meiko V3 module they added in PD Arcade. :(

Oh well, can't have everything I guess, it's a shame they went out with all these Miku songs but it was expected. The lack of Disappearance is a bit baffling, but I don't mind that much since I don't really like that song.

I'm glad A Song Does Not Have the Form (or whatever the real translation will be) made it in. Reminds me to check out doriko's new album as well.

Electric Angel is just one of those old songs from when producers were still figuring things out - I think the oldest song in the entire game, period.

I still need to give the full track list a listen. It was about 30 songs, right?

Definitely picking and choosing the modules to buy, though. There were about 10 that I'd actually want.

They announced DLC songs #15-16 today. The 25% overall discount promise was already fulfilled with song #14. (Too bad Promise was #12.)
