Have you been diagnosed with Time Blindness?

Starting your work day at 8 or 9 AM does not require anyone to wake up "early," it requires them to wake up at a normal time and manage their lives outside of work so they can do so.

It's simple time management skills and part of being an adult.
What I've learned working in certain industries and meeting so many people is that 'normal time' is relative to the company and to the person.

In hospitals there are some night owls who couldn't be any happier working overnight shift. I've also met people who prefer the busy bustle of an afternoon shift because they like the fast pace of things. And then there are early morning types who genuinely prefer the 8-5 or 7-4 and wake up to see the sunrise.

To each type, that's their normal work time.

The person in the video is younger and might not yet realize they prefer something different. The unfortunate thing here is that they decided to post a video online about it.

I have a cure for that.

Evolutionarily it makes sense that a subset of every successful tribe should be night owls. Keeps the group from being wiped out in ambushes, keep fires going, etc.

The greater the responsibilities and qualifications, the more agency you're given to accomplish objectives on your own terms. It follows logically.
Yeah, that's the key part here: different positions are afforded different accommodations. You don't get to declare "I have time blindness" to gain an exception from your contractually agreed upon business hours that your co-workers in identical positions aren't afforded.

I'm a senior software engineer at my company, and I could log on at 3pm in a bathrobe and no one would bat an eye. My dedication, ethics, and contributions are unquestionable at this point. But, I earned that after seven years with the company, because I'm the guy sitting here at 2am on Saturday fixing the hand grenade someone rolled into Prod on Friday afternoon before they walked out the door. That's why I hold a senior position and enjoy the perks that come with that.

If you're a rank and file, you're hours are 9 to 5 (or whatever your contract says). Can't even achieve those standard hours? We got a filing cabinet full of resumes from people who can. Deliver more, prove you're not gonna abuse the privilege, and you can start whenever you please.

Apparently no one in here has heard of ADHD
Diagnosed at the age of 4. I'm quite severely ADHD.

I show up everywhere fifteen minutes early, something I learned in the Army.

ADHD is not an excuse for lack of punctuality at all, and to be honest it's one of my biggest pet peeves when people ask for special accomodations as a result of ADHD. We think faster than most people who aren't ADHD, we just get distracted extremely easily and can't pay attention well. A person with ADHD does not require any special accomodations or attention, they need only discipline, which most people lack, regardless of what they seem to believe that they're afflicted with.

I dont feel sorry for that gen, they a bunch of broken, brain rotted R-tards...

But I do feel sorry for their kids one day if these idiots are ever able to procreate.

Edit: China is gonna eat the west alive at this rate.

When I was in high / secondry school after exams everyone got a "compact" certificate. It was a free certificate like a participation trophy just for attending school and being on time, so the worst students had something to show employers... They were a joke to all the students. Now the students are the joke.

Time blindness seems like another pathetic, sovereign citizen type excuse.

I've always been a 'just on time' kinda guy.
Start work when I start getting paid, stop when I stop getting paid. No company's getting free overtime from me.

I can't stand the 'first to arrive last to leave' types. No life, brown-nosing bastards!
The type who don't smoke or drink coffee, but will go on said breaks just to tongue the bosses ass some more.

I laugh but I also believe it. For some reason I constantly underestimate how long it will take me to finish something or get out the door in general.

Reportedly 20% of Harvard students and 40% of Stanford students now have registered "disabilities" in order to get accommodations like 50% extra time on exams which are extremely time constrained. Conditions like anxiety and ADHD. It was everywhere in school. These are the top students in the country, totally shamelessly scamming for an advantage.

The standard is the standard. If you have problems and can't overcome them in order to meet the standard, you haven't met it. It's that simple. The real world will not care what your condition is, only whether you are competent and capable to complete the job.

Whatever you do don't look into elementary schools.

I have not. Unfortunately I am keenly aware of wasting time.

People will say anything to make an excuse for being late.

You just ruined my life with this garbage and I didn't even click on the video reading the title was enough. I do agree that being late is disrespectful of others time. I maybe be many things: an infidel, apatheist, absurdist, apostate, mexican, roofer but impunctual is not one of them. Anyways I will fix things

Not that these kids would know about this song, it predates them by about 40 years

edit: Watching this again makes me wonder if anyone does guitar solos in songs anymore in the Year of Our Lord 2025

Literally nothing to do with this "Time Blindness" concept.

Doesn't matter when your shift is, the "time blind" person "suffers" from being a total prick who refuses to show up on time.

It does if that person uses time blindness as an excuse for constantly being late.

If someone sucks at waking up early in the a.m., they need to consider jobs where you don't have to wake up early to accommodate for that.

None of us really, truly know the person in the video, we just know their complaint because they posted about it. So we're all making guesses and assumptions on this.

We all have things that come easier to us and things that come harder. This person would benefit from finding a way to succeed at things that are challenging for her.

I wouldn't give her the benefit of the doubt I've worked retail. I had coworkers who would be consistently late no matter what shift they were scheduled. Some people just don't think punctuality matters it's a character flaw.

I can't believe you're defending her. You're never on time are you?

Wearing your issues like a badge feels so weird and foreign to me.
The other problem with this--and I've seen it firsthand--is that when people start applying disability-type labels to themselves, they start to believe that's just part of who they are. So it becomes a fall-back excuse for laziness or ineptitude: a little bit of stress becomes "I need a mental health day to deal with my anxiety." It's like a self-defeating cycle.

Gen Z has had it drilled into their heads that the juice isn't worth the squeeze. With the narratives being fed to them, and apparently endorsed by their parents, it's hard to say they have the tools to break out of that mindset.

Not all of them, mind you, but probably the ones posting videos about time blindness.

The worst part is that she got in to an argument about it during an interview.
The way to go about this would have just been to ask if they have flexible work schedules not ask if they have accomodations for a 'made up' condition.
But to then argue with the interviewer about it is just crazy.

Time blindness, otherwise known as bad parenting.

Importance in being on time, work ethic, and taking things seriously is instilled via your parents. Sometimes I wonder just what the parents of our younger generations did. I'm guessing they just let them do whatever the fuck they wanted and they grow up to feel they shouldn't be held accountable for anything.

I mean this video is dumb but everyone struggles somewhat with keeping time to a certain extent. Being on time and work ethic are often are at odds - you can be so committed to work and focused on completing a task that you don't notice the passage of time making you late for something else.

People do, but you have to admit that some people are way more diligent about it than others. You live long enough and you meet people who just don't care enough. I have multiple friends like this. Always late, not driven or motivated. If there are isolated incidents, that's one thing. When it's a chronic and becomes a pattern, eventually it's a matter of a person not trying hard enough.

I have a great long term memory. Probably the best of anyone I personally know. But my short term memory sucks for some reason. I don't know how that works, but it's just the way I am. So I'm always super meticulous about setting reminders, alarms, all kinds of stuff or I'll forget. I'll put something in the toaster for 5 minutes and set an alarm for something that small. I'll be late or forget stuff on occasion, but over the long haul I'm going to be very good with being on time for stuff.

I have friends that just don't care enough to be on time so when I set up times to meet or hang out it's always an hour before the actual event. But that's for a social meet.

Doing this for your job seems insane but here we are.
