How would you go about it? I need cash, like right now. Is it considered "impolite"? Will my boss give me a weird look? I've never done it before, so I'd like to hear some of your experiences.

I give out advances fairly often. I trust my crew, though. I think it really depends where you work and how well you get along with your boss.

An easy way to ask about it is to talk to someone in human resources about "our advance paycheck policy". Some employers offer it, but in my experience, most don't. Be prepared for a rejection by looking into other options like a post-dated check service.
