Super Mario Bros is very successful right now and will probably break many more records. I would be interested to know if many here have already seen it? Or even want to see it?

Saw it in Imax. Movie was mildly entertaining. Something was off about the audio like it wasn’t mixed well. Visuals were okay, acting was decent. I took my youngling and he had fun. 3/5 and Don’t recommend the added cost of Imax.

It’s a decent movie but carried hard by the IP. Not one of Illumination’s worst (because oof, they have a lot of stinkers) but even among their “best” it’s still just okay. The only jokes that land were Luigi pretending he doesn’t know the guy who looks and dresses very similar to him (which the trailer already showed) and Lumalee happily awaiting his and everyone‘s demise. Also, the pacing is ridiculous, I can’t tell if the writer doesn’t know how to let a scene breathe, or if an editor got a little too trigger happy on it, but seriously, kids aren’t going to fall asleep instantly if things actually get developed or focused on properly.

It‘s average, but for video game adaptations that kids can see, it pales in comparison to the Sonic films and especially Detective Pikachu. It’s also annoying you can’t criticize the film in places without some people bringing up the box office results as “proof” of the film’s quality. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was also a box office success……

No. I wanted to go to the cinema but never got around to it. I know it's still showing but I don't want to be the only person who turns up lol. I'll just wait for it to stream or rent it.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty fucking bad. Peach is a total boss chick and certain Youtubers are down playing it to get a W on left wing people who wish Peach was the MC. Also cannot fucking stand Jack Black and implementing his mannerisms into Bowser... Ugh.

Gonna see it with my niece and nephew in a few weeks, once the crowds have died down. Looking forward to it! I've heard it's really good.

While box office results is not proof of a films quality, you are right on that. But I noticed you conveniently left out the audience score. Since you brought up Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Let's take a look now shall we? And let's compare it to this version of Super Mario's audience score.

Mario's blue mushroom power up, peaches peaches peaches and Peach's "he's nobody" are way funnier than anything Luigi says or does in the film.

Yeh, it’s ok. I thought it was decently fun but nothing too amazing. It’s nice to see it do well because it’s a good sign for the future of the theatrical release model.

I don't get it...I'm not a "left wing youtuber" and I thought Peach was perfect? I mean sure she was a "boss chick" but that's because she was a Princess? She was a "boss chick" the same way Princess Leia was, a strong character who tried to use diplomacy (like a boss), never missed a shot (like a boss), but still needed rescuing (like a damsel).

To anybody who saw the movie, it's obvious that Peach (and Luigi) had to be rescued by Mario. I guess that isn't enough, we want a Peach who just sits there waiting for something terrible to happen? Who wouldn't even make a final stand before losing? Come on.

Peach was a viable playable character since NES and the modern games treat her the same way so it wouldn't make any sense to portray her as completely useless or unable to want to fight or defend the Mushroom Kingdom. If she had literally saved herself or if Mario had been more of a buffoon it would have been bad. But the anti-woke reaction to Peach is even more exasperating than woke reactions to shit. Like wow. Peach ATTEMPTED to save herself and failed, OH NO WE ARE EMPOWERING WOMEN TOO MUCH WATCH OUT, THEY MIGHT GET IDEAS

Not to mention Peach has been playable in several games, plus she had a very active role in the old Mario Bros. comic book.

She has a bad attitude and upstages Mario whenever the writers can do it. You've got a fucking Nintendo avatar so of course you're going to be bias. I know she's had Super Princess Peach, playable in Smash, playable in 3D World but nah she's got way too much attitude.

I feel like we didn't watch the same movie. You'd think that Peach had rebuked Mario like at the end of Odyssey. Which was something weird that I hated (despite my Nintendo avatar). But she actually really liked him which is what really pissed off Bowser. I expected her to have a snarky attitude when Mario did well but they didn't handle it that way.

I rented out the whole theater and my son had the party of his life to watch Super Mario Bros.
I went to a party for my sons classmate and they rented out the entire theater as well.

If that was you, thanks for the free beer :p

I thought it was fine. Played it very safe with no real deep messages or anything. No explanation for why Peach was in charge or why Bowser wanted to marry her (or why she wouldn't accept, seems like nothing but upsides for her versus ruling mushroom people until she died of old age) but for a strict kids film I guess that stuff doesn't really matter. Can almost see Nintendos hand in keeping the writers in line and preventing Mario from being a total goof and Peach just doing everything herself.

Some screenplay issues aside, it was pretty good. Would've liked to see Pixar take a stab at it, especially in their glory years, but I'll take it. I thought it was better than Sonic for whatever that's worth. I would've preferred they didn't mess with the live-action silliness in Sonic and just did an animated adventure that takes place in his world.

I'm a longtime Nintendo fan and you're right in that Peach definitely could've been worse, but I still wasn't wild about how she was handled in the movie.

My interpretation of Peach is that she can certainly hold her own (such as in some platformers), but the sheer amount of times she's been captive largely implies that she can't just take on the Koopa clan single-handedly the way she does in the film. Mario
does ultimately save the day (by becoming invincible) but gets his butt kicked repeatedly throughout the story, as does Luigi. Conversely, I think Peach makes a single mistake/takes damage once in the entire movie, when she sets off King Bob-Omb and loses the power-up.
It just makes me wonder why she really needs Mario any more than she needs any other random decently-qualified ally like DK.

In many Mario games, Peach can appear soft-spoken or even vapid, but she's always carried a sort of kind elegance to her that I would've liked to see more of. She warms up to Mario eventually, but she also tells the Toads he's "nobody important" after they seemingly bonded. Peach's best characterization IMO is in the first two Paper Mario games. She's clever and capable in her own ways, but can't just start overpowering everyone, and instead helps out in specific ways that aren't related to hopping and bopping.

Yes, and it has everything you want in it

-"origins" story
-easter eggs every 10sec
-unrelated rehashed to death 80's songs because "hey, remember that?"
-annoying famous "funny"actors voices
-protagonist (and brother/partner) is a massive loser
-protagonist's family is composed of hillbillies (or similar social status) but they are still doing better
-becomes a hero thanks to a magical device at the very end
-strongest character (Peach) is the one he saved countlessly before but it's not ok anymore
-multiverse

that being said, it was alright and my kids liked it.

Outrage at woke and woke outrage should get married and have kids. The insufferable offspring would be universally hated so as a civilization we would once again have something we can all agree on.

WARNING, SPOILERS: I only saw the movie once but I don't remember that many opportunities for Peach to fight or make mistakes unless you include the training level she wanted Mario to complete. And of course she knew her own training level. Mario was always going to be the underdog with the idea that he's a vehicle for the audience. And the audience makes mistakes playing Mario and has to try again to do better next time. They depicted it like Peach was the older brother with an NES and Mario just started playing. But he actually did just start, Peach explained power-ups and game mechanics to Mario in front of us. What she saw in Mario is also that he always tries again and doesn't quit. Which is exactly what will make you a strong Mario player. And it didn't go on for the whole movie, as I feared -they mostly "got it out of the way" with the training scene. Sure Mario made more mistakes but he also had more action. He had plenty of opportunities to make mistakes while fighting DK while Peach just watched.

After the "training level", they had the Mario Kart sequence and finally her being captured by Bowser. Then she tried to escape but as you mentioned, lost her powerup. She was then completely helpless and Luigi was about to literally die before Mario got there. Peach never "saved herself", she tried and bought enough time for Mario to save Luigi. AFTER Mario completely saved both Luigi and Peach, M & L wreck Bowser in a different scene.

So 1) Peach knew the MK would likely be overpowered/destroyed and so she tried diplomacy.
2) Her plan was detected and countered by Bowser anyway
3) She tried to be sneaky and pull off a coupe with a power-up but it failed.
4) Mario was a human that was never expected/asked for to arrive in the MK. Despite the suggestion that she's so good why need Mario, at this point she was about to be forcefully wedded to Bowser and Luigi was going to die unless he arrived. Despite that she BEHAVES like a take-charge woman willing to stand up to evil, she actually can't do it alone and will lose badly. She's just willing to take it on the line and lose. She is a Princess Leia that still needs a Luke Skywalker to rescue her. If Mario hadn't shown up, exactly what you would have described would have happened...Peach would have made a fair display of platforming chops and succumbed to Bowser.

Personally I thought it was great that Peach wasn't willing to just roll over and be Bowser's bitch because it seemed hopeless. She would rather roll the dice with a final stand even if all it did was buy an extra 30 seconds for Luigi to live and royally piss off Bowser. Even if she knew he might be so enraged he would kill her after, that's her personality, she's filling her role of royalty. It also made sense -they had explained Peach had lived in the MK since she was a baby and was "good at" the Mario fighting and platforming. We also know that in Mario, it only takes one mistake to screw up, and a single man in a Tanooki suit with only one day's experience can make the difference in co-op mode. IT'S A GAME MOVIE!!!

Thought it was alright, it doesnt really have much depth, just non-stop action with a few inter connecting pieces.

Saw it today, and question about the end.

When they all get warped to Brooklyn… Bowser’s ship just crushed hundreds of thousands of people didn’t it?
