HD Loader users: how's it going? What has your HD Loader experience like?

Haven't heard much of it since.

:lol Try copying a game image to a drive w/ other non PS2 data on it and report back. You'll see.

The s/w does a bad job guarding/warning about potential data loss.

Why the hell would I do that? When it says select drive I always select the drive that is the PS2 drive, since all my drives are difference sizes and models all I have to do is look and see which is which. What you've described is simply asking for trouble.

Not every game, that would be a pain in the ass to do. It takes too long to copy over to the HD on the PS2 though. Transferring games on the PC is much faster so I only do that if I want to transfer a couple games or so, otherwise it's not worth the trouble

But if you have imports, connecting the HD to the PC is probably the best way to go

sounds more like it does it's job, and doesn't hold people's hands while doing it...

Last question : When you install a game from the PS2 to the HD, do you always need to put the original game DVD everytime you want to play?

Wario, I play MGS3 with with HDLoader without any compatibility modes activated (and no ELF patches applied), and it's working perfectly, even reseting the game by pressing Select + Start + L1 + L2 works, which I heard doesn't work if you enable Mode 3.

Simply put, MGS3 works fine with unpatched HDLoader and without any modes activated.

Ok to be perfectly honest I'm not 100% about the save file time/date, I'll make sure next time I play the game, but I'm pretty sure the dates are correct on my saves.

Eh, I thought you have to enable mode 3? Maybe Mode 3 is screwing it up...I'll try it later. I just want the timestamps correct on my save files

I lied. It wasn't my last question :

When you talked about "It takes too long to copy over to the HD on the PS2 though", what did you mean by "too long"? Are we talking about hours or minutes? Because I don't have a DVD in my computer, and I don't want todownload GTA SA, MGS3 and such, only to put them on HDD.

Unlike Xbox, not all my games copy over :(

Also some don't seem to offer any speed in load times. WRC is a good example.

It loads at the same speed, kind of. You can see the little HD light flicker a little bit, then stop. then start again.

It's like it's telling me "Fuck you, I'm supposed to load in 40 seconds, so that's what i'm going to do"

Bastard.

Well the first game I tried to transfer when I got HDLoader running was GTA:VC, which takes up nearly a full DVD I think (about 4 gigs). I didn't time it but it seemed like it took about 30 25-30 minutes just to transfer. On PC, it was much faster since the DVD drive is faster...even faster if I have the image on my HDD (although that would be a waste of time/space to create images).

Also, I think some games can't be transferred to the HDD for some reason. I heard Katamari Damacy freezes at like 99% if you try to copy it. I never tried it though since I run that game from disc

I heard GTA:SA loads in 40 seconds or so, no matter what. The light stops flicking like 5-10 seconds into the loading...but you have to wait for the progress meter to finish

I'm thinking of getting the HDLoader and a Maxtor 40GB harddrive from www.consolesource.com just to play MGS3. I don't see myself needing too much space because I'm not interested in too many other PS2 games (at the moment), but what would you guys suggest? 40GB ($80) or 120GB ($125)?

The game still works despite the error.

What sounds better, $2 per GB or nearly $1 per GB? :P

All right, value-wise, the 120GB is definitely the way to go. I'm just wary of the fact that I might be wasting that extra cash on something I won't make much use of... but I guess I could always just format the HDD and use it as a normal one if I ever get tired of MGS3 (not bloody likely). Thanks for the advice, you two.

sorry for bringing this back up.... whats the difference between HD Loader and Advance??? I am going to ge tthe 120 gig hdloader package.... is this the best idea right now or are there other options, I dont wont to open the ps 2 at all... thanks in advance..

I just ordered the HDLoader to play MGS3, hopefully that will shorten the load times. They weren't really long to begin with but MGS3 players will know what I mean.

Now to the questions: Does HDLoader interacts with a PC in any way? USB or R45?

MGS3 is noticable faster. You can FTP games to HDloader.

When is someone going to figure out how to get GT4 running on HDloader??????

How would one do this from the PC, I usually load a game when I'm busy doing something else.

Look at this ghost post!

You can all talk about this but won't say your method I find that shadier than the redwood forest!

*sigh*

I use a USB 2.0 external enclosure. No point in connecting to the PC unless you're really impatient or are modifying the image in some way

This is Sony we have taken all your names and. . . oh wait its perfectly legal. HDLoader also prevents wear and tear on teh PS2. Carry on.
