HDMI to S-Video converter aspect ratio

I recently got an hdmi to s-video converter to use a Fire stick on an old tv. However, it only outputs 16:9 to a 4:3 tv, meaning the image is squeezed. I can’t adjust the aspect ratio on the tv nor the Fire stick. Is there a software or hardware solution to this?

Unless the TV offers some sort of trick of squeezing the screen hardware wise (like most of the CRT monitors do) - I think you may be out of luck.

Some audio receivers have an image upscaler built in, and they can change your aspect ratio not sure if it would take a 16:9 image and convert to a 4:3. But just throwing that out there...

Is there even a chance of doing this? I mean, thinking about it, the very nature of a 16:9 image is too wide to fit that in the 4:3 aspect ratio. The image will be deformed by necessity as there is simply too much information and the old TV is attempting to display all of it.

Did you dig through every setting on the TV to make sure? It could be buried somewhere weird, or called something unintuitive.

Otherwise, check out this reply thread here, about enabling ADB debugging on the Fire TV and then sending it some commands from a computer to mess with the output resolution:

I’ll look into this, thanks.
