I don't suppose you happen to know what part of Iraq you'll be stationed in? Hopefully not places like Baghdad or Fallujah. I hear the Kurdish areas of the north are definately the better, more hospitable places to be in.

Best of luck, man. Hopefully you come back with some good experiences which will kick your career to the next level once you return...then you can make those six figures WITHOUT getting shot at.

If your going to get beheaded tell your kidnappers to let us know at the GAF!

Was that inapropiate?

I'll be sure to let them know. But, just to let you know I'll be blown up before I'm beheadded. I won't be in the same situation that the those guys that got their heads cut off were in. I'm a military contractor that is doing software support I'll be in the command center living in the barricks. The is no need nor desire for me to leave the base.

Any concern about the job your doing, does it bother that you are going to be directly involved in the killing of other people. I'm assuming if your aquiring targets you going to have be a factor in who gets bombed or not.

Damn, Tommy. My respect for you has jumped 1000%. You've got balls if you're gonna be going over there as a contractor. That task is not easy. Not to sound like I'm giving morbid advice, but... keep your head man... in more ways than one. :|

Take some pics for us, if they allow it. :)

Good question. I'm going to transfer a lot of these to my blog. If you have follow my posts here you know that personally I have been aginst the war from the start. HOWEVER, I'm not against money. Is it a sad commentary on me as a person that I'm willing to trade others lives for my material gain? Probably. Does it make me a hypocrite? 100%. But, I'm also a pragmatist. From a my career standpoint this is an excellent opportunity (provided I live). This is a job that has to get done if it wasn't me it would be someone else. I've been doing the same work stateside that I would be doing there.

My whole CAREER is based on the fact that someone has to die for me to get paid. I think that it is amazing that I was selected out of 89 applicants for a team of 7 and I was the only one in the pool that didn't have previous military experience. Everyone on my team has been in the military except me.

Good luck and be safe.

Uh, I had no idea who you were when I clicked on the thread, but someone called you Slick. Were you the Slick from boobies and NGO? I can never keep up with nicks.

Yeah I'm Slick Advanced/Tom Slick. I just changed my name when I realized I was going to Iraq. It's describes who I am to my family just a little boy name Tommie and who I am now a "hustler" who is willing to risk/trade his life for the pursuit of the material. That is to say there is innocence and evil/greed and everyone.

darscot if I had to find one "good" thing to say about me in this situation is that in reality I feel for the soliders. These people are caught up in the whims of our administration and no matter how any of us feel about the situation these people have Mom, Dad, Wives, Girlfriends, Boyfriends, kids, brother, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends that want nothing more than to see them come home alive. And if my job helps these soliders get home alive 1 day earlier then I've done my job.
