Simps for Amouranth

Just discovered these guys whilst on holiday browsing, they came up in an article about one of the best live shows to see in 2025, watched the above concert, loved every minute being a huge Vikings & Last Kingdom fan, so checked their tour dates and wouldn't ya bloody know they're playing Dublin tonite and I'm in fecking Spain, I think they may have provided the soundtrack to Hellblade2, I can only imagine how amazing these guy's would've been to see balls deep into a massive acid trip, unfortunately this aul lads body couldn't handle that much stimulation

Fucking autocorrect ballsed up the post title if any mods would be so kind to correct

Saw them a couple of years back with my wife and they were amazing. Unlike any other live act I've been to see, definitely an experience and for sure would go see them again.

I've always wondered how much of stuff like this is legit "we are an isolated enclave of pagans that have been preserving our culture for 1000 years" practice versus 19th century quack charlatanism sprung up to counter oppressive Christianity. Kind of like a lot of indigenous rituals/dances/music, how much of it is 'pure' from centuries ago versus diluted, influenced, and invented in conjunction with the broader world? Certainly few do a church gathering EXACTLY like it would have been done in 5th century Italy or 16th century England.

I dunno man have you ever been to a catholic Irish or English funeral? Fuck me it drones on and on and on and on.. as for the pagan stuff I'm 100% sure that stuff is legit carried down through the ages, you tend to find the oppressed and marginalised keep those rituals tight and secret with all the shit that Christendom got upto

Just to add, when the wife and I got married we had a humanist wedding with a lot of old Celtic rituals added, partly because we're both atheists and both lovers of ancient Irish history

Heilung is a modern museum work group, they have looked at Viking era instruments, rune stones, and then came up with the music. It's a arts project.

Sooo, just made up stuff? Like recreating a bunch of period drums and clothing but then 'incenting' music and dances to go with it? I"m also talking about stuff like the antlers, and of that directly taken from an actual pagan ritual, or just some 1890s edgelords fantasy?

I'm not necessarily dogging it, as I do like a lot of that stuff, but i feel like most of it is just pretend...then of course ALL of religion is basically pretend :P

It is a honest attempt at recreating the music, the instruments are all based on real archeological findings. They have looked at how the instruments were made, and came up with working tunes. The dresses and stuff is based off on real finds too, and runestones have been looked at that describe festivals/gatherings etc.

It is either waaaaaaay off what it all really sounded and looked like, or, it is close, noway to really know, but, they have attempted atleast to base it on real world findings.

In the end, I still love it, much better than Mozart et' all, LOL!

pretty sure they're mostly going for vibes not accuracy.
accurate old European music was probably very different. there's a guy on youtube who does videos on stuff like that, and pretty sure he said it's very inaccurate and that they aren't actually trying to be accurate either.

Not gonna argue with their chap but these guys aren't part of some religion, it's all a show, as they've posted on on of their videos..

Heilung is Amplified History from northern Europe and should not be mistaken for a modern religious and/or political statement of any kind.

As for it's authenticity, who knows but that sort of rythmic trance like beat is well used by all sorts of native groups to put the group into a spiritual trance usually helped along with massive quantities of frog licking or whatever grows locally! These guys just appear to throw in a load of modern mixing and come up with their own unique and incredible sound, I've now listened to their live show again, this one has much better sound quality

Through my Sony Quads, turned waaaaay to fuck up and it was incredible, so I'm not trying to convince the wife to come over to Europe for a weekend and see them live
