Hellgate: London Demo Coming Tomorrow

Wow, it doesn't? If ever there was a horrible floaty piece of crap, this was it.

I played a Blademaster, and after about an hour and a half or so (I'm in the beta) of adjusting to the range of the melee system, I got pretty used to it. I would never go so far as to call the melee as tight as something like Dark Messiah Of Might and Magic, but it's about as floaty as any other game with that camera and this style of play.

watching hellgates fall has been depressing, i wanted to like it but time hasn't been kind.

oh well, what's next to follow.....

This is one of the worst games I have played in years. I got bored within 15 minutes after experiencing mediocreness to the max. I wouldn't pay $5 for such a broken game and no I am not even being funny. The animations are horrible, graphics are nothing special, the game is boring and lacking of life and the character practically don't even speak.

I read that this game requires a monthly subscription. Is this true? I seriously wouldn't buy this game for $5 without a monthly fee. Seriously this game plays about as good as Superman 64 and that might be to much of a compliment. This is no Diablo thats for sure. Horrible horrible game. I want my 15 minutes back and don't even get me started on the EA ads plastered on nearly everything and the fact that EA scans nearly everything about your computer as you play. If this is the future of gaming then I am finished!

PM me your email, I'll set you up with a Mythos invite.

Hellgate London is $39.99 the day it comes out at Circuit City. I might bite at that price, as I believe that the game will probably improve greatly over time, and I know I'll play it to death for at least a week when it comes out before getting too bored.

Also, the Witcher is decidedly not like Oblivion:

I dunno. Aside from the terrible skill trees, I think most of the gameplay issues are patchable. But I have much less faith than you. The developers have been nothing but cocky up until this point, and they have released a smelly product. I bet there is some horrendous Brad McQuaid-esque Vision at play here. Every time someone has questioned this game in the past, its mindless defenders have just said BUBUBU THEY MADE DIABLO 2, and I think the shoddiness of the final product shows that they may have believed in the hype train they began.

I have yet to download this as it's simply massive for a demo that pretty much everyone is hating.

It's very troubling, though. Titan Quest was fantastic but just missing 'something'. A compelling story, maybe, but it was something that I can't quite put my finger on, and I was hoping Hellgate: London would return me to the glory days of Diablo 2.

No to be, it seems.

I'd be surprised if there's a compelling story in Hellgate.

Also after playing Mythos/Hellgate I think 3d diablo games are far less forgiving on stuff like environments. When you're playing Diablo or Mythos you run into lots of the same environment but the 2.5 perspective kinda distracts you (least it does me) from that. When you play hellgate it's got the same repetitive environments, but the 3D makes it stand out so much more. Also I didn't even notice, but are the levels randomly generated in HGL, didn't seem like it to me.

I wish they would of made one game that took the best aspects of both games. Hellgate's item system and 3D world, and Mythos *awesome* skill system.

fixed

I still don't know what to think of this game. The bugs reek of major problems (in the beta, I've seen multiple ctds, for me and my friends, falling through the world, invisible teammates, inability to trade, missing health bars, unsummonable pets, DX10 performance is ass, and other random crap). For a game shipping in two weeks, that's a very bad sign.

The subscription model seems designed to segregate the community and generally piss people off

I hate ads, so that's just a huge negative

The lack of respecs just straight up sucks (I fully expect this to show up as a subscriber 'perk')

But at the same time, after getting away from the godawfully boring melee class and playing a summoner with friends for awhile, I had a good time. The skills are fairly interesting, swapping weapons for various situations is cool, the item system is well done, and multi-person combat is far more entertaining than solo.

I dunno. This game really does not want to be liked.

Tollgate : Adgate : London indeed

I don't understand how no one can, after all these years, beat Diablo 2 (except Blizzard with D3). When I want a hack and slash game that's the one I ALWAYS go back to. I've started playing it AGAIN (for like the 10th time after quitting). Diablo 2 design is nothing short of genius how it just grabs you and just pulls you back under for another spell. Incredible how long lasting that game is.

I await with baited breath someone to actually design a "Diablo Killer" just so I'll have another obsession.

I'm assuming you played Titan Quest? It's the closest thing out there, and with the IT expansion, really quite good.

It does, unfortunately, really need one last skill balance patch to even out some stuff, but Iron Lore didn't get the funding for it, which is a bummer :(

Still, it's a beautiful game, with a lot of really fun characters, and some challenging higher difficulties (with cool hidden bits).

played the demo today for about 30 minutes and to be honest i wasn't that impressed. The first thing that struck me is how clunky the control and combat feel. Very floaty and most of the time it just feels like you are swinging wildly and hitting stuff all around you. Part of me thinks they would have been better off making it first person only and really tightening up the control. Melee can work in FP i think. It seems like a half-decent 3D diablo clone, but i was expecting a lot more after all the hype and the developers pedigree. Mythos is looking mighty nice though, anybody got an invite so i can check it out?

I'm going to pass on this. The demo was boring, so paying a monthly fee for that is not possible.

Infact, anyone who does can go to hell.

I'd recomend anyone that play the demo to play the Marksman class and try out a few weapon types.

The rifles and pistrols felt fairly average, but I acquired a grenade launcher with greater range and the feedback to its gunplay was pretty good. Fun, even, for an action RPG. After a few hours, I was satisfied enough that I had no concerns about whether the gunplay action would be good enough.

However, I tried the Blademaster for a bit afterwards and the melee felt horrible. It lacked the third-person weight of Blade of Darkness and the first-person visceral feedback of Heroes of Might & Magic.

Please don't ban me for using this thread. :D

I have a Hellgate London beta invite that I can't use. The first guy who sends me a PM with his e-mail will get the mail with all the info.
