Some black kids from their school who just happen to use the internet are proooooobably going to bully the shit out of them.
Nothing. They'll go through life thinking their horrible thoughts and become horrible adults who get hired by horrible employers who share their horrible views.
After all, no one's telling them they're horrible.

Guys, I never actually argued in favor of people excusing the racist teenagers.
I wanted to see if all of you felt absolved of the stupid things you did in your younger years, so I could point out to you that branding someone with something that is socially unacceptable to millions of people is quite different.
I could tell you that I used drugs, hit a kid, stole, whatever, but unless I have some sort of criminal record following me around, no one has to know it.
If you really want a racist teenager to be branded a racist on the internet (something that will stick), you should equally accept being branded as whatever you did for all time.

I support this. what better way to teach these kids that their racist opinions are wrong than to have them all gathered into one place that makes it easier for future employers / friends to at least confront them about said held opinion / beliefs.
Its simple. Shame MAY lead to self reflection, which may equal change. Most probably wont. But doing nothing = nothing.
I live in Montana, so its not too rare. The election has brought a lot of racists out of the woodworks. Saw a guy few months back that had "white pride" tatoo'ed onto his arm as well.
Its actually quite startling just how racist this state is. The funny thing is the state votes most dem on everything but the president. Should the next dem candidate be white, they may have a chance of swinging the state.
Yeah... can't wait to get the fuck out of this place.
What I think needs to be addressed is varying degrees of racism. Its just as ignorant to label racism as black and white with no gray area. I've found people genuinely afraid of "thuggish" looking latinos and blacks, but totally ok with "non-thuggish" latino and blacks. Yet, when they voice this, they're racists. Its such an all-or-nothing mentality.
You are right, we need a term for people that are cool with "good ones" of a given race.

This whole thing is really sad. Both that people write this bullshit and that people are trolled into reacting by putting up this tumblr in response. I understand what they're trying to do, but one thing this is not doing is improving race relations, but further straining them. That's unfortunate.
The thing is, she's totally not racist. She doesn't have "token" minority friends, she's just cool with everybody. Is it unrealistic for her not to like possibly dangerous people?

Yes, because the only thing I'd be legitimately ashamed of is stepping on others' human rights.
So brand me. I'll live with it and they should too. I've never done anything that I would consider equally hateful or abhorrent. I've been lazy, I've been a disappointment to some, I've cheated on tests, I traded paint with someone's car in the parking lot and drove off without leaving a note when I was an idiot teenager. (aside: the police came to my house to tell me not to be a little shit courtesy of the guy whose truck I scuffed, and guess what, it worked! I felt bad about it and now if I fuck up I let people know it was my fault and take steps to correct it.) None of those actions were ever motivated by hate, racial or otherwise.
How is this different from a high school kid committing any other crime? Yes, if the FBI decides to give them a talking to, they deserve it. If a high school kid speeds, they deserve a speeding ticket. If they drink underage and get caught, they deserve community service or whatever the fine for that is. Being a teen doesn't excuse committing a crime, or hate speech for that matter.
Also, as has been discussed earlier in the thread, you're using witch hunt wrong. It would be a witch hunt if they HADN'T posted racist tweets/public remarks.
And if you don't want to argue, why did you post? Did you just want to tell us the "correct" opinion and then skip off without a word of actual discussion? (Hint: neo-gaf is a public space too...)

That said, you have no idea what freedom of speech is. The right to freedom of speech is not freedom from offense or freedom from the consequences of your words. The beautiful thing about the freedom of speech is that it applies to the racist people and the tumblr creator equally. You don't get to choose which one has the freedom of speech.

All you need to do is search "nigger" on twitter and you could find half of these posts, if they aren't deleted already. Nobody can see your posts on search if you have them set to private, but anything goes if you don't have any sort of privacy system set up. They're publicly available in that case.
