Ok, let me try to explain this.

Talked a friend of mine into signing up for WOW and he downloaded the files from Fileplanet. He kept getting told the download was corrupt so after trying 3x from three diff servers he called me and I gave him a copy of the file I downloaded because I already used it and I know it isn't corrupt. He got the same error.

So I had him bring it to my house and we did a direct transfer of the files, just in case they were damaged when I burned the CDs. This time it worked...but then began a new even more frustrating issue...

So when I run the installer, it ALWAYS says that it can't read one of the .MPQ files.

So now I start thinking that there are possible corrupted sectors on the hard drive. So I attempt to do Scandisk but then another error comes up...

"The volume is in use by another process"

Ok fine, so I try it in safe mode. Same thing....

Ok fine, so I turn off every non-essential process known to man. And it STILL says something is running. So I try the same thing in safe mode....

Eventually after trying everything I could think of (including all spyware, virus, registry errors etc etc) my friend tells me to just format it. It would say "volume in use" for that too.

So after a bit of a hassle I finally did format it and get everything back up and running again. Then I went to install it again and you guessed it...problem was still there.

Anyone ever seen this before? Only reference I can find that is related referes to a memory issue on NT systems, and I even tried the clearmem fix they recomended.

At a loss!
