Help me choose a new MP3 player

I have a 40gb ipod that went belly up on me. I am looking to purchase a new one.

I am considering the Ipod mini, the 40gb model was nice but I have 100+ gb of music so it's not going to hold all my music anyways.

I figure the largest Ipod Mini will give me plenty of music to tote around with me.

However I am interested in radio on my MP3 player which the Ipod is sorely lacking.

Anyone have suggestions on a good MP3 player?

Here are my preferences in order of importance.

1. Sound Quality
2. Equipment quality/interface
3. Battery life
3. 5+ gb of storage
4. FM radio

In the end the ipod probably is the best device for me but if I can find something that will work just as well with FM I'd be happy to switch.

Well, if you could be happy with 512 mb (more than enough for myself), a Creative mp3 player would be perfect. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

You guys aren't making this easier! hehe

I would second the iRiver H10 (if you can find it for a good price) as I felt it has a much nicer interface than the Creative Zen Micro (which is all like a touchscreen).

I would also suggest you check out the Rio Carbon. It has too has fm radio, voice recorder (Also has PlayForSure as far as I can remember), great battery life and sound quality, and a pretty good price as well (it is the cheapest compared to the zen micro, h10, mini).

JPRaup mentioned the Dell DJ as well. It has a good sound quality. However, I am not a fan of its wheel, and I feel it has gone down in terms of quality (and battery life) for the 2nd gen lineup.

To Note: The Korean version (or any place but North America) of the iRiver H10 supports directly dragging and dropping mp3 files into the player and it will recognize and traverse through directories. I'm unsure if the North American version supports that or not.

I'd really recommend (if possible) go to a store that has these players on display and just try them out to get an idea on how to go about using the device.

I have the 20 gig version and i love it. never had any problems with it. a little bigger than an ipod, obviously, but for how much cheaper it was, it was definitely worth it. i'd definitely recommend it.

That's what I've got and I love it to death.

The only downside is that it's not a sleek and sexy as an iPod, but it does everything else better and at a huge discount to the way overpriced iPod.

i dont even know how they can even use the same model name for the 20 gig, it's retarded...

hell, it doesnt use the same firmware as the 5 and 6 gig models, doesn't have a removable battery, and doesnt fit the H10 FM Transmitter or the H10 Cradle...

some people even mockingly call it the "H20"

Gone down in quality? Wow. I literally had three of the first gen 15GB models die on me before just giving up on the thing. What a shitty hard drive (Hitachi..). It does have good sound quality though, like all Creative players. Much, MUCH better than an iPod. The sibilance and treble push of iPods is ridiculous when using good headphones, no matter how you've encoded your MP3s or even if you're using an EQ.

iRiver makes good players but have terrible customer service. I haven't paid much attention to their more recent models, but it looks like they've at least dropped that horrible "joystick".
