So... I have a difficult decision to make. All of these lovely RPGs... but which to start first?

Harvest Moon
Secret of Mana
Earthbound
Chrono Trigger

I've played through Chrono Trigger... but awhile back... got to the end boss but never bothered to beat it.

In what order shall I play these games? Lemme know.

EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTHBOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUND! :D

Do it, or Pokey will get you

Secret of Mana or Earthbound.

Two of the best RPGs ever made. Give me my goddamn Mother 1 + 2 and a SoM GBA port, Nintendo and Square. Please. :(

I'd personally play through Chrono Trigger again. But that's just me.

You should start with Earthbound, unless you can play Secret of Mana multiplayer.

No multiplayer for me for Secret of Mana.

Kinda drawn off the beginning of Earthbound... but... it's seriously only 20 minutes into the game. Has it aged well?

You have 3 types of RPG there

Action RPG - Secret of Mana

Traditionnal - Earthbound and Chrono Trigger

??? type - Harvest Moon

I suggest you take Earthbound or Secret of Mana first (because it's the 2 best imo) and then Chrono Trigger to finish the other best.
Play Harvest Moon taking a break through all the other games, it's pick up and play and also a long game.

Seriously, EARTHBOUND.

Earthbound is the only correct answer to this thread everyone else is trying to trick you to your utter demise.

I'm in FF6... but stopped. And it wasn't a choice :)

I felt that FF6 was a letdown for me, personally. It really hasn't aged well at all. After playing the Opera House scene through... I was questioning what the brilliance of it was. I'm not saying it was a bad game (I haven't finished it)... but I just couldn't get into it like I prolly would have had I played it when it came out.

I'm afraid to go back to Super Mario RPG to see how that has aged... I have fond memories.

Haha, don't worry. SMRPG is just as fun as it was nine years ago (!!!!)

Haha. I started it over about 2 months ago... but got busy and stopped. I think a few grins popped on my face. How can I not fall in love with that game again?!

9 years?! Is it really that old?

ff6 (long)
chrono trigger (best)

Well, Pikmin is also technically Strategy.

Yeah i think Pikmin is a "strategy-something" type of game. Using strategy is definetely at the basis of it's gameplay and the way to progress through.
But Pikmin isn't a RPG though.

I always thought Final Fantasy 6 had and amazing first half, but the last half of the game was very bad. The ending sucked badly too.

ooo tough one.. In the end, after ten years, I think you'd be better going through Earthbound first (over Chrono). It's just such a unique experience. The inventory system is a pain but damn is that game ever memorable. I would rate it:
Earthbound > Chrono trigger >>>> Secret of Mana >>> Harvest Moon.
And I played Harvest moon a lot.

Like Bork said, you can't really go wrong with any of those four games. But Earthbound is just so unique and awesome. You'll either have a smile on your face or a "wtf?" face the whole time through, I guarantee it. :D

What is so great about Secret of mana? I havn't played it, so I was just wondering. Does it have a really good storyline or something? Alot of people talk fond of it.

Think Zelda but multi-player and more spells. The game isn't all about story, it's like Zelda. It's more for dungeoning and journeying through an amazing world.
The soundtrack kick some serious ass. One of the best ever. And for it's time, the graphics were the pinnacle of the SNES.
You are obligated to play this game if you have ANY interest in "Zelda-type RPGs".

Oh and play it 3 players if you can, the experience is even better!
