Help me choose some GCN games, GAF.

Your resident PC fanatic think it's high time to buy some new titles for his Cube. The last ones.

Games I already own: Prime, Prime 2, Wind Waker, Sunshine, F-Zero GX, RESIDENT FUCKING EVIL 4, Soul Calibur 2, Wario World, NFSU2, Ikaruga, Paper Mario 2

Games that I want to buy this Christmas, should I or should I not?:

Final Fantasy - Crystal Chronicles - I love FF series. It's my favourite console RPG with Dragon Quest right behind it. I've beaten all main FF games (1 - X-2) and I am DYING waiting for FF12. So why am I even debating wether to pick CC up or not? Well I heard strange things, things like you can't beat it in SP, it sucks, it's a disgrace to FF name. What's the real deal with CC, GAF? Does it play more like FF or more like Mana games?

Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes - same as above. I adore MGS series, I've beaten the whole trilogy. But MGS is really old and my memory is a bit fuzzy. What is (if at all) new in TTS? Or is it just a straight port with upgraded graphics? I've already rebought MGS1 - for the PC (published by none other than Microsoft!) and I re-played it in high-res mode, way higher than GameCube can display... but the screens look so cool, they've remodelled everything!
So is it worth it?

Burnout 2 - yeah, laugh all you want but I'm kinda bored with BO3. Why not try BO2 on the Cube? I heard it's the best racing game on this console (<3 F-Zero GX) - is this true? In which way is it worse than BO3?

Baten Kaitos - ??? Wacky Jappy RPG, I love'em but I don't have infinite cash, you know. What's BK like? What's the most similiar RPG to it? Suikoden? Grandia? Kingdom Hearts? I know nothing about Kaitos so enlighten me!

Now don't you fucking dare to say: Smash Bros. cause my brother doesn't even play Calibur with me :( So no multiplayer-oriented games, please.

I will probably buy 2 of those 4 games. Which ones? It's up to you...

(And don't say Pikmin - I like my RTSes on the PC, thank you)

I know you said no Pikmin, but Pikmin 2 is really one of the best games of the generation. It's so relaxing and addictive that you can't help but be mesmerized by it.

Why isn't Resident Evil 4 mentioned in there!?!?!?! :D

Or do you have a PS2?

Also, Pikmin isn't your average RTS. The controller is perfect for it.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance? Maybe? Just a little bit?

EDIT: Argghhh1!! Damn you Soundwave...I will keep Fire Emblem here as a suggestion no matter what!!

Off of your list I'd say Twin Snakes and BK and then you'd be able to get FF:CC for free by doing the TRU buy 2 get 1 free deal. Twin Snakes and FF:CC are both on Player's Choice and BK is $19.99 as well.

So for $40 Twin Snakes, BK, and FF:CC is a great deal.

no yes no yes

I pick these two

Baten Kaitos - ??? Wacky Jappy RPG, I love'em but I don't have infinite cash, you know. What's BK like? What's the most similiar RPG to it? Suikoden? Grandia? Kingdom Hearts? I know nothing about Kaitos so enlighten me!

None of those RPGs listed, I'm sure there's an RPG similar, but I can't put my finger on it. It's kinda lacking in the story, and the voices are retarded, but I liked it after figuring out the workings of the card battle system (it's not really that bad). Can't wait for the sequel if it comes to America.

Why not Tales of Symphonia? I'd take that over Baten Kaitos honestly, because it's faster.

Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes - same as above. I adore MGS series, I've beaten the whole trilogy. But MGS is really old and my memory is a bit fuzzy. What is (if at all) new in TTS? Or is it just a straight port with upgraded graphics? So is it worth it?

Essentially a straight port story-wise with updated graphics, but with sexy cutscenes, and the addition of two convieniently placed pipes near the area where you have to run back and forth to change the PAL Key. I'm sure I'm missing something, but nothing too major. Really shortens the whole back and forth procedure with the card key. After wiping off the semen from the MGS3 circlejerk morons, yes, get it.

I enjoyed Baten Kaitos. I can't really give a good comparison since I haven't played anything similar.
It has some problems with the fighting system like the sheer randomness of the cards but the scenery, graphics and the general atmosphere of the game was quite enjoyable.
If you can pick this up for cheap I'd say go for it.

Remember that BK2 is also in the works and they have addressed all the problems with the first one so you have that to look forward to.

Like Demi said, ToS is also marvelous.

You are always there, demi.

<3

Tales of Symphonia you say - the problem is it ain't available here (so I'd have to buy online) while Kaitos is.

Others:
YES I HAVE RE4, I FORGOT TO LIST IT

MGS TTS is great. You can't go wrong with it.
FF:CC is alright (single player) I guess. But it really works as a multiplayer game.
I never played BK

Pikmen 2. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. Are AAAA must haves though, you'd be a fool not to pick them up sooner or later.

Oh I almost forgot Skies of Arcadia: Legends!
Unless you've played thre DC version, and even then, I would still highly recommend this little gem.

Borys, do you like Fire Emblem? Hit that up, definitely. If it's out over there yet, anyway.

I don't want FE for Cube! GBA FEs filled me with FE love till 2010.

FF: Tactics was the best and let's end it at that.

FE: Path of Radiance circlejerkers! I know it's ubercool SRPG but I don't want it. Period.

Alright then, I'm just asking.

I'm not a circlejerker like oh say - Dragona, but I am playing it and enjoying it for what it is, and yes, I wish it was a portable as well.

If you're hellbent on those four games listed, then you've already heard my piece.

And so it is written.

So shall it be.

Animal Crossing
PSO 1-2 Plus version
PSO 3
FE : Path Of Radiance
Batallion Wars
Waverace Blue Storm
1080 Avalanche
Bomberman Generations & Jetters
Custom Robo
Gotcha Force
Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life & Another Wonderful life
Ultimate Muscle: Legends Vs. New Generation
WWF Day Of Reckoning 1 & 2
Pikmin 1 & 2
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 & 3
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (if you like sonic)
Mario Sports Titles (if you are into arcadey sport titles)
Skies of Arcadia Legends
TOS
Baten Kaitos
DK:JB , Konga 1 & 2
Those are some good titles for me at least , it's just a matter of wich genre you like more ,there's more i'm forgetting now.

Sorry, but :
Pikmin 1+2 FTW ! You can't get anything like this on PC. Hell, you can't get anything like this on any other game system.
Also get Eternal Darkness, it is really worth what it costs today (~10 Euros).

If you're a MGS fan then you'll love Twin Snakes. Its the same game with MGS2 hiding scenarios, first-person aiming etc.

The Codec scenes are re-done and theres some little differences you'll notice from the original with some cool exagerated cut scenes.

Give me some $$$ and I'd pick them all :(

Unless you plan to play multiplayer FF:CC I'd advise staying far, far away. It is loads of fun with 2-3 friends (ala 4 Swords) but I tried it single player and it is so tedious and boring. Hit, hit, run away, hit, hit, run away, hit, hit...

Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia are great pics. BK for the "Wacky Jappiness" of it all and Symphonia for RPG goodness without all that turn-based crap getting in the way.

If you don't have them on PS2 I'd also suggest Vewtiful Joe 1 + 2. I'm just getting into the series (I always sucked at/got bored with bet-'em-ups and therefore never really liked more than a select few) and am loving them. Lots of fun and a great sense of humor to boot. "You and your pee breaks..."

Skies of Arcadia Legends is a great pick for an RPG fan...

I can't believe someone hasn't suggested Paper Mario yet. Another great RPG with beautiful graphics.

Oh and BUY FUCKING FIRE EMBLEM BITCHES!

Some less obvious ones:

1080 Avalanche:
Short? Yes, but fun as hell. It's more of a straight up racing game then a SSX clone. Avalanches are awesome. Graphics, sound etc. etc. are all well done. Times trials are also well done in this game and worth a try after you complete the main part. There are all sorts of new paths you take in these runs which give the old courses some new life.

Eternal Darkness: This game is awesome. I don't care what anyone says. I think what scared people off is that it starts off looking like a cheap RE clone (which it definately is not). Give this game a once play through and I can promise you will most likely come away very happy.

REmake: The Definative RE experience. If you are a guy who loved the Original, this is a MUST buy. There are some amazing things added to this version.

Beach Spikers: Highly under appreciated IMO. There are some slight camera issues every now and again, but nothing that is overly frustrating. Let me tell you tho, 4 player multi is just about as addictive as you can get.

Ikaruga: An incredible shooter. Very Hard but amazing none the less.

StarFox Adventures: This game gets a little too much of a bad rep. It was a nicely done Zelda clone IMO. There is tons of collecting tho, so if this turns you off completely, I'd pass it up. Otherwise a great game.

Rebel Strike: Very fun arcadey style starwars game. A plus if you're a graphics whore =P. Also Rogue Leader is available for Co-Op!

Super Monkey Ball 1/2:
Monkey Ball!! Great multiplayer fun. Fun adventure mode.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat:
amazing! This game is FUCKING GREAT!. Old school fun with a twist. buy pronto!

Viewtiful Joe 1/2: Another amazing old school type game. Must buy

Alien Hominid: and another! :)

A few cross platform gems on the Cube:

Metal Arms
Beyond Good and Evil
Burnout 2
I-Ninja

smash bros holds up well enough as a single player title, trust me. Theres so much to unlock and collect and theres tournament mode to make 1 on 1 bouts with the computer hassle free (dont have to repick opponent and level after each match, just keeps giving you opponent til u win tourney.)

From your list, I'd go with MGS:TTS and Burnout 2. The Twin Snakes was solid with some minor frame rate issues that got blown way out of proportion. Ignore the haters and get it. I'm with you, Burnout 3 is great, but I like Burnout 2 better.

Are you in the U.S.? You might consider the TRU deal going on right now.

He's not in the U.S.

He's in Poland.

Yep I don't even know what TRU is or means.

Great suggestions so far - Animal Crossing what's that? Something like Harvest Moon?

TRU = Toys R Us. It's a retail chain that has a "Buy 2 Get 3rd Free" sale going on right now.

QFT
Do it, there is nothing similar on PC.

buy Baten Kaitos. It's beautiful art and worldmap is worth it. The soundtrack is great too.

I also recommend Skies of Arcadia Legends if you haven't played that one for dreamcast and want more RPGs, then there is Tales of Symphonia of course.

You might want to try Killer7 also. It has a wacky but good story, and lots of violence and gore in a different way. Very stylish game.

Pikmin 2 is good if you like strategy games.

I've actually played through a couple of the games you listed Borys. Not sure if this helps out or not:

FF:CC is really meant for multiplayer. If you have a couple friends to play along it is fun. But by yourself the game is a little dull. The structure is also more akin to Secret of Mana and not your traditional FF game. Would have been awesome if not hampered by the GBA issue for multiplayer

MGS:TT - Played and finished it in my small time stint with a Gamecube. The game is a nice remix of Metal Gear Solid, but it has some issues. What the game does is take the first person gameplay from MGS2 and infuses it into the game. Which would be cool in theory if not for some of the frame rate issues. I don't know exactly what was going on but it gets choppy at times in first person mode when you are trying to fire at enemy soldiers. The cut scenes are redone too and a little over the top. Like when you fight the apache helicopter after you defeat there is a cut scene where Snake jumps off the missle fired at him by the helicopter, he does a flip and fires off a rocket of his own. If you like that stuff you'll love the over the top redone cut scenes. As a MGS purist though it was a bit of a disappointment. Oh and the metal gear solid theme is butchered in the twin snakes too. Don't know who made the call between Konami and Silicon Knights but it shouldn't have been touched. If you are a MGS fanatic it may be worth it just to have in your collection. But if you are a MGS fanatic the remake may also make you a little angry.

RPGs:

Tales of Symphonia. Plays like a mix between a fighting game and an RPG. Story and characters aren't that great, but I found it enjoyable anyway.
Skies of Arcadia Legends. Kinda hard to find. If you have the DC original, don't bother. If you haven't played it, it's an old, turn-based RPG with random battles, and an extremely charming cast of characters and world to explore. Highly, highly recommended.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The best Mario RPG out there, in my opinion, regardless of some backtracking near the end.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Excellent. Great Strategy RPG despite the generic early-DCish graphics. Great gameplay, music, and story and characters so far (just about halfway through). And it's out next week!
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. I wouldn't recommend it, really. You can play it alone but it's a pain in the ass, and it's even harder finding other people to truly play it. The DS version will probably be much better.

Strategy:

Pikmin 2. I don't care what you said, you have to check this one out. It's a lot of fun, and just so gosh-darn cute!

Action/Stealth:

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. A good starter for anyone who HASN'T played the original MGS. If you like this, then you should love Metal Gear Solid 3.

Ok that settles it.

Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia it is. Two new games, two RPGs :) I hope they're long!

FF:CC sounds like a cheap attempt on cashing on the FF name and that stupid connectivity gimmick crap while MGS:TTS is same old MGS with new graphics.

Later when I save enough money I'll give Pikmin a spin. Which Pikmin should I buy - the first or the second one?

Thanks for your input, Hive.

Baten Kaitos aint worth it man. And Skies of Arcadia... SKIES OF ARCADIA!

Anyway, I'd say that Pikmin 2 is by far Pikmin's better. The original is still worth a spin as it gives you only 30 game days to beat it (about 15 hours... Pikmin 2 lasts around 30).

EDIT: Er, that doesn't seem to make much sense, but what I meant was that the time limit makes it a bit more challenging. Pikmin 2's challenge is more based on surviving various caves and making it out with the various treasure necessary.

If you haven't got Super Monkey Ball, couldn't see it among the titles you listed, just buy it. Best game on the GC.

I played my friends Batallion Wars today and all I have to say is that game needs all KINDS of polish, multiplayer and skirmish mode before I would buy the sequel. I hate how the characters run the control SHOULD be dual analog and the physics are fun but not polished. I want better control of my unit too like flanking positions and formation. Granted I didn't get very far but what I played was very dissapointing based soley on the gameplay engine.

EDIT: Wow I can't believe someone said Gotcha Force. I really liked that game when I had it with over 250 playable characters and level gaining the combat was very unbalanced but still VERY fun. I wish Capcom would make a sequel to the game but instead of using original robots to base it off of the Megaman games with MM, X, Zero and all the other Megaman, Megaman X, Megaman Zero and Command mission bosses and allies. I would pay $100 or more for a 4-player powerstone like fighting game based in the Megaman universe which is what Gotcha Force played a lot like.

Great choice, both of them are awesome RPG's that are very different from eachother. After your done with those I suggest getting Skies of Arcadia Legends, its another awesome RPG. If you do get Pikmin, I suggest getting the second one, I've heard its way better than the first, which was already a good game.
