HELP ME GAF -- I bought a DS to get laid, and no hot girls use PictoChat!

Has anyone been actually using Picto Chat(P.C.)? I've had my DS for 3 weeks now and I've never met someone on there to chat to. When I go somewhere, I usually turn on the DS and load P.C. but the chat rooms are always empty. Anyone got a better experience then me so far? Should I just load P.C. and close the DS on sleep mode, leave it like that until someone pops in the chat room? Isn't the DS suppose to get out of sleep mode somehow?

I doubt you'll be seeing anyone by chance in the chat room since the connection radius is more or less 60 feet.
 
When I read the subject line, I thought it meant "did anyone score through meeting women via pictochat." How disappointing!

I've seen similar posts of new DS owners not finding anybody online in PictoChat. Either Nintendo failed incredibly in their campaigning efforts, or they succeeded tremendously.
 
I just bought the Wireless Messenger for GBA. It's advertised to go three miles, and if it even goes one mile, I'm going to be sore at Nintendo for not putting this same technology in DS.

Well this will probably change once and if Nintendo get the DS online.
 
Sigh...no. It'd be a hell of a lot easier to check for wirless play if I could just turn on the DS and search for multiple game signals at once. But noooo, I have to change the damn card for every game, and I just can't be arsed.

For all I know I could have missed hundreds of opportunities to play against someone nearby.
 
I totally "hooked up" with strangers at work on the day it came out, but after that, nobody cared. :(

PictoChat was a half-baked idea at best, but it makes a good freebie feature of the system. Go online already Nintendo. IT DOESN'T BITE!
 
The wireless play is going to be awesome in 3 years time when there are plenty of people around to take advantage of it with, but right now it's pretty useless.

Which is why I find games like FF:CC and Zelda Four Swords being on their way so soon pretty strange. Games focused on multiplayer almost to the exclusion of single player won't be appealing to most DS owners for a long time.

Maybe Nintendo is really counting on Picto Chat success once it gets the DS online. Right now it could just be an appetiser.

PictoChat just makes me want a Mario Paint DS even more. Not online.
 
Yeah, I got lucky and cybered with a strange woman for hours last night! It's funny, though. the only other person with a DS I could find was little Timmy next door.
 
It really should let you know when there are people in the area, even if you're in a game, or something.

I haven't stumbled across anyone yet, despite playing at the airport & stuff. :-/

THIS IS THE CRUCIAL FLAW. I guess Nintendo didn't want to hassle other developers with making PictoChat-aware software :(

I mean, who just sits around waiting to PictoChat? (Well, aside from the people on this forum...)
 
I think the DS should be "DS-aware" even if you're in a game.

I wanted for so long to battle someone in Pokemon. One day one guy saw me playing Pokemon FR and showed me his GBA with the same cart.

But we didn't have the wireless adapter or link cable to battle. That would have been nice.

Now that the DS is wi-fi, that should be a feature IMO. The only way to be DS-aware is to be seen playing this huge handheld and another person bring out his own.

Which sucks.
 
I guess it's a battery life issue, so the wireless isn't always draining your battery.

You'd think though that it could just search for people once every ten minutes or so, and let you know if it found someone.

I am thinking it might be a bit much for it to tell you whenever ANYONE entered or exited your range (especially if there are a dozen or so DSes in close proximity), but there should be a flag telling that it senses another DS somewhere in your range.

There must be some reason it's not done this way, but I can't guess why...

I don't know. Though the idea is good, having the wi-fi enable all the time would really kill the battery.

They could make it like a Palm Pilot, where it's usually active, but you could disable the wifi if you knew you were alone / didn't want to play multiplayer / were worried about battery play.

Didn't Myamoto say that Nintendo was working with Square-Enix into bringing the DS online?

I considered firing up Pictochat, but then realized that doing so could be construed as creepy -- an adult purposefully chatting via Nintendo with a 14-year-old boy.

I stuck to playing Advance Wars 2 on my GBA SP.

Why would you play it on your GBA SP if you have your DS with you?
 
If you're within the minimum range to talk to people on PictoChat sans Internet, why not go interact with them IN PERSON? Take a pad of paper if you just have to draw a crude penis for your your amusement.

That's why the range should've been like 10 miles instead of that fuck-ass 90-feet or whatever. As is, it's totally fucking worthless.
 
The concept of several dorks standing within a 60FT radius of each other, communicating via crude drawings and slowly-entered text as opposed to actual human interaction is amusing. There will eventually come a time when I'll never need to actually speak to another human being to survive...and it will be a great day.

I used it at my family's xmas party to scare the other kids who had a DS by hiding in a dark room/closet and sending creepy messages. The downside was that I had to be, at most, within 30 ft of them.

Pictochat: Threatening children since 2004.

God you're awesome...I'm serious. I would be doing that myself if there were any children in MY immediate family.
 
Sadly this was the scenario on Black Friday for me and my friend. I think we were the only ones with DSes. Regardless, as previously stated, we had a blast with pictochat anyway. Or at least I went wild.
 
This thread was great for a lot of laughs!

I like PictoChat, but I think the only situation it really would work in is if you had a close group of friends who went to college/class together. Then I could see it being amusing.

Or if it went online.
 
Hahaha. Obviously you forgot that PUPPY TIMES is the game that will get you laid!

Pictochat only seems useful if you are in a classroom or at a boring wedding/chruch service/funeral and you can't actually chat with someone. Though if people notice you using it there they are likely to be offended or think less of you.

Yeah, this is the biggest place where PictoChat will be used.


And :lol at the PUPPY TIMES thing. That still stands as the funniest thing I have ever read online. It's only the third time I literally laughed so hard that I almost fell out of my chair. I said to myself "So this is what it's like to look at the inner desperation of the world's biggest losers."
