Henry Cavill screen test as James Bond for Casino Royale, 2006

I got giddy until i read 'casino royale', was mentally bereft at '2006'

Probably too young at the time, still would have killed it. I loved Daniel Craig too though.

No idea what Craig's test looks like, or indeed what most of these sort of tests look like, but based on this, I'm not surprised they continued the search.

Not god but it takes a lot of guts to audition at that age, so fair play.

Also he got the Bond hair curse without even being Bond.

Anthony Starr's (Banshee & The Boys) audition for the same job has also been put online.

Daniel Craig has to be the.most wooden bond in history
Season 6 What GIF by The Office

He was gaddayam perfect, I never read the books so I can't compare to flemmings character but he was by far the best bond and encapsulated exactly what a British secret service assassin should be like

It's a more understated performance than other Bonds. That's what they're going for with that incarnation. A Roger Moore style performance, as fun as he can be in his films, wouldn't fit with the tone. But then for moments where Craig needs to turn it on he can. He can nail things like the delivery of the "yes, considerably" from the opening of Casino Royale.

But if being too wooden is the issue I don't see Cavill being the solution to that.

There are roles he can be good in but he doesn't have the charisma for Bond.

He absolutely does have what it takes to be a Bond. In the tape he's too young and inexperienced.

But just look at The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He was born to be a Bond.

As for Daniel Craig... I love Casino Royale and Skyfall is fantastic too, but the rest are dull and mediocre. Casino Royale had the novelty of a more serious Bond and a new actor. Skyfall had a good story.

Pierce Brosnan is still the best Bond in my opinion. Die Another Day was a shame for him to go out on, especially when the opening was promising and the girls and cars were *chef's kiss*.

getting older and rewatching pierce brosnan made me realize how corny all bonds were up to daniel craig. those one-line zingers were of-the-time but man do i hate them
craig (and his character, written as it is) made it a lot better in my book.

That's fair enough if you think that's the case. I know a lot of people online really like Cavill. For me he's just not on that level in terms of the charisma you need for a role like Bond.

Yeh Casino Royale and Skyfall are the standouts but I wouldn't say the problems with the others are on Craig.

It's one of those things us in the Bond Fandom have talked about forever, (his screen test back then), interesting to finally see it released.

I think they made a better decision for sure with Craig, for the time being, even with my disdain for Craig overall. That being said, Bond needs a bit of age and wisdom to be good, imo, and Cavill would be a better fit today than back then.

The smirk / charisma of Sean Connery vs the smirk / charisma of Henry Cavill...holy **** there's a gulf between the two.
