Amazon MGM Studios’ giant robot Voltron movie is getting a man of steel.

Henry Cavill, the Superman actor and star of The Witcher, has come aboard to topline in the live-action feature based on the mecha anime that Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing.

The actor joins Daniel Quinn-Toye, the newcomer who impressed the studio and director with his West End work opposite Tom Holland, in leading the roll call.

Voltron is based on the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. World Events edited and dubbed the series as a syndicated show, naming it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which ran in the mid-1980s. The premise centered on five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega-robot known as Voltron

The 2016 Voltron series was 100% gay. In both senses of the word.

Cavill keeps signing onto projects that should be great for him, but where idiots are the showrunners, and they end up wasting him & the IP on some idiotic "representation" or politics.

Hopefully none of the 2016 series people will be allowed anywhere near this movie.

Lately it feels like i hear more about the roles he's signing up for than actually seeing him in those roles.
Yeah, is Highlander in the can or what?

Maybe that's the grift, get signed to as much as possible, collect whatever holding fee they have, but never actually work.

Is Toby Macguire still kicking Robotech around? If we get a live action Voltron before Macross I'll be pissed.

But can't wait to cheer with nostalgic tears in my eyes at the inevitable "Form Blazing Sword!!!" finale that if they had just led with they coulda saved half the city from needless destruction :p

Love Voltron, had the vehicle toys as a kid and have the lions as an adult. My youngest son (4yo) absolutely loves it as well, he carries around the small lions that I bought when the 2016 show came out. Hopefully we'll get some reasonably priced toys to go along with it (Target currently has 40th anniversary classic lions but they're really hard to come by due to scalpers).

Oh, absolutely! We're big into Lego, but take a guess what my 4yo does to every Lego set I build or am building? Haven't been able to build anything for the past three years because he always finds a way to get to it then destroy it because he thinks he's helping. I got my daughter the Home Alone house and she's been itching to start building but is so worried about him that it's been sitting since last Christmas.

I envy Henry Cavill so much. He is the most handsome guy I've ever seen..

Good grief man, the solution is OBVIOUS! Lego even did an ENTIRE film about it!!!

All I care about is that this means things are going okay with Warhammer. Cavill wouldn’t be signing up to more stuff with Amazon if they were fucking him on his passion project.

That probably doesn't mean that. Money is important to him so I don't see why he'd say no for more opportunities to make money over just regular business which is that sometimes deals fall through. Especially movie roles which are smaller commitments for higher pay.

Normally, I'd agree, but in this specific instance, the 40k projects means more to Henry than anything. I honestly can't see him agreeing to other projects with the same people, if they're not giving him what he wants with the one thing he wants more than any other. This smells very much like a negotiating tactic - at least that's what I hope it is. Henry and GW are very keen for the franchise to be accurate, but for Amazon to go along with that I'd imagine they want a few other guaranteed projects to mitigate the risk. That slice of the plastic pie Amazon wants is part of that too.

They def aren't doing this. I've never seen any of these guys.

The ones I know are Lance, pidge, sven and the gang.

But honestly this movies been in development hell for a long time I donf see it actually happening and the mecha trend really didn't last long post pacific rim so I dont know if itd be successful anyways.

I think you are overthinking it because they are the same studio. There are factors out of his control such as Games Workshop and whoever gets attached to the project that can make it so he never actually stars or even ends up a part of the project. I doubt he'd leave money on the table for a not sure thing (1 in 10 projects started in hollywood do not get finished) and use that as leverage against amazon when Games Workshop could easily be the problem. He went from barely getting roles after JL to get roles again I don't think he's going to say no to more movie roles and money. Yeah he really likes Warhammer but I don't think him accepting other jobs is as deep as you think. He just got attached to rom com project.

Games Workshop aren’t the problem. Unless the problem is them not wanting to hand over too much control to Amazon.

What rom com project is he attached to?
