Hermen Hulst calls Astro Bot their “most exciting recent success”

It's not Horizon, Hermen?

Confused John Cena GIF by WWE

SIE CEO and Head of Studio Business Group Herman Hulst spotlighted Astro Bot as one of PlayStation's "most exciting recent successes"!

so, dr obvious? i mean, yeah, he's right. & water's wet. just don't throw out a shoulder while patting yourself on the back, eh?...

Hey Herman I am very happy for you and I will let you finish but a 2.3 million sales on a 94 Metacritic, Game of the year and 78.7 million player base is not that much of a success, but hey have your victory lap.

What dictates success is expectations, budgets etc. The game was made by 60 people over like 3 years. 2.3M sold (which we don't know the actual sales by now) pays for god knows how many Astrobot titles lol. It's probably one of the healthiest PS studios currently.

An Astro Bot movie by Sony Pictures Animation would dope. Just call it Astro Bot: No Humans Necessary! and keep it true to the spirit of the franchise, no need to involve human characters or tie-ins to human cultures. Let the charm of the robot world shine on its own.

This thread and the other one...I need a podcaster to have a relaxed couch conversation with Hulst. The way he speaks just feels way too planned, concise, and calculated.

Previous Playstation leads weren't this bad when it came to earnestly discussing their properties.

Its just not your product Hermen, Horizon Zero Dawn franchise is. Gonna repeat again: Astro Bot is a slap in the face of every western Sony dev team.

At the end of the day it's pretty sad how Astro Bot celebrates and remembers a ton of Sony's older IP's and then you realize how many of them are dead or reached a low point.

>Sony HATES the success of Helldivers 2!
>Sony HATES the success of Astro Bot!
You are now here:
>Sony HATES the success of Stellar Blade!

Learn every lesson from this, Herman. Focus on gameplay and fun. We don't need 20 hours worth of motion capped cutscenes. We don't need edgy narratives. We don't need six year development cycles. Just. Make. Fun. Games. Faster.

How wrong was I? Did it sell more than 2.3 million? Is the player base less than 78.8 million? Didn't it win Game of the Year?? Any part of my statement was wrong??
The game was cheap to make and a huge success, are they putting that money in your bank account? why tf do you care, we all got to play an amazing game.

Game was like maybe 40m to make and Sony didn't do much marketing. It's basically a success.

thanks Expedition 33, now every time someone says anything about any game someone just going to tell you the number of people who worked on it, which by the way means literally nothing, you people boost about the game as if it is the 2nd coming to Mario Bros. Until someone has the audacity to mention the abysmal sales figures, and yes it was 2.3 this march, I will bump it up to 2.5 but that is just as a gesture of good faith.

It is bundle, it is game of the year, unless you have a knowledge on Sony's marketing budget for the game you cannot downplay how it was Sony's only single player game last year and their literal fucking mascot.

Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, FF Rebirth, you're really just grasping at straws unless you only count first party

Playstation California was a terrible idea creatively. Sure it made sense from a financial and expansionist perspective, but the heavily Americanized aftermath pretty much killed any interest I had left in the brand. Hopefully the rumored handheld has more of a first-party Japanese market focus from Sony, but if it's anything like the Vita, then they'll just abandon it after a couple of years of being dominated by Nintendo in sales figures and market share.

dude you people are a special breed, none of those are Sony franchises just because they paid the developers to keep it off Xbox, btw all I said was the sales of this big success of them are low which it is low, you didn't even have to engage with me because my statement was factual.

People compare to Mario in terms of the game itself. No one mentions it because of sales, come on now dude.

And now its sales are abysmal? Thank god Sony doesn't agree with you otherwise they would close the studio.

As if the first full game of a new platformer selling 2.5M is a terrible thing lol.

Call me when Spider-Man 3 sells 2.5M in 8 months. Now that would be abysmal.

Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade were new IPs literally financed by Playstation dude... do you even know what you are talking about?

This has been confirmed by both developers, specially Stellar Blade who's scope completely changed when Sony came on board with the money.
Nothing is stopping Xbox from doing the same. But now it's probably too late, now that they are a 3rd party publisher.

How could there be other recent successes when the last time they released anything worthwhile was 2022, and Ragnarok is a mega downgrade from gow2018 while also being a ps4 title. When you don't release anything, don't be surprised there's not "recent" successes.

If you ignore Demon's Souls, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade on PS5 AND PC, yeah sure.
Maybe other than Stellar Blade (which is not from Sony's internal studio) NONE of those games you listed I liked….absolutely none of them.

Its a very good game. We want more platform games like Astrobot. Bring back OG Sony IP, like Ape escape, Jak and Daxter and Sly.

Success doesn't need to correlate with personal taste. I, for one, hate GTA.

Sure it's my personal taste but that's my biggest issue with Sony this gen……they simply stopped making the games I enjoy.

I don't even know what I should look forward from Sony this year or even year after that.

The only reason I'm keeping my PS5 mostly for Team ASOBI and third party games.

Very special game that stands out amongst all the games they've produced this gen. This and Returnal are my favorite games by far in terms of 1st party. Like a pretty big gap between these two games and the rest of the games they have produced this generation.
