Hulst: Concord was insufficiently differentiated to be a success - Marathon feedback varied but useful

The reality is, as I've been saying for a long-ass time at this point, the rabidly woke and the rabidly anti-woke are basically the same idiot, just in different flavours.

They both obsessively ascribe total responsibility for every success or failure based on how it conforms (or not) with their world view, because ideologues are driven to see their worldview dominate.

The reality of Concord was that despite what the chuds want us to believe, it wasn't wokeness that killed it. It failed fundamentally because it had nothing new or exciting to offer apart from its woke stylings.

That's the teachable moment Hulst is expressing. And its way more valuable than one tribe pointing out how much they hate the other tribe!

Honestly, that so many people want to talk about how Sony should conduct their business despite not grasping this very obvious point is pretty embarrassing.
I call them people too much into American culture wars. The root cause of this stupidity is Murica.

What an utter disaster Hulst has been for sie. They were known for their 1st party games and he completely lit the entire infrastructure on fire. All he does is chase bad money and trends.

Someone did the math on another thread and said Sony releases on average 1.5 games a year historically. They haven't done that this gen and also don't support indies and 2nd party deals like they used to. The cupboard is bare.

Xbox and sie traded places in terms of software production. Sony made several bad investments in studio acquisition. I never would have predicted 5 years ago that Xbox would be lapping Sony in games

Exactly.. horizon 2 has pretty woke/modern feminist tropes imo... he maneged all this situation about concord and the studio acquisition, under his tenure wokness crept in to all California studios...

If he is not woke he definitely dosent care about their studios employees wide spreading this ideas into offices and games.

Hard disagree with the "can" part. They can't. You need to be minimally cool or at least to have some kind of awareness of what cool is. These people are sick in the head, they can't make anything cool or funny, because they live in a clown reality.

There's nobody at PS Studios who can create another Nathan Drake even if they wanted.

Oh no, even during the Activision sale I thought it was a hail mary from Xbox to remain relevant. Even as recently as when they closed tango gameworks everyone was stomping on Xboxs grave.

Hulst really pulled defeat from the jaws of victory. Shout out to Jim Ryan too
 
Everything about this game played out damn near exactly as Lawbreakers did.

You'd think the industry would've learned from Cliffys giant studio blunder, but they quickly forgot.

Difference is lawbreakers was legit fun to play. This just was smooth but offered nothing special.

Speaking as someone who played both.

imo fairly good reply tbh. Nicely worded. Neutral and effective. Nothing controversial here to warrant such angst towards him.

I wouldn't mind Sony trying a live service (GaaS) title again provided they have learnt all the mistakes from multiple cancellations and a huge disaster ( Concord ).
 
How can the board still allow him to continue. It should be obvious to them at this point that he has no idea what players want and why Conchord failed. I don't like Phil, but he would do such a better job because he understands the situation at least partly.

So if Sony can't find a better replacement at least hire Phil, since he seems to get less and less to say at XBOX.

Here's supposedly Emari's early concept vs her final design. IDK what motivated this sort of change, but it sure as fuck wasn't "our audience will like this design and want to play as this character"
maybe the final design was supposed to be funny and they just forgot to put in the fart sound for every step she takes

Because to the type of people that work at these studios diversity isn't just about having various races but about having "unique" and "atypical" characters.
They love going against what's expected and subverting expectations in a lame way, so it's about having stuff like "body positive" (aka fat) characters and "non traditionally beautiful" (aka ugly) characters.

Ugh. They're never gonna learn from their mistakes if they refuse to acknowledge the problem with Concord. Everyone at SIE was too busy smelling their own farts to see how much that game was going to fail. It was clear to literally everyone outside of SIE. From the moment it was revealed it was essentially universally disliked. The game showed laughably bad. They deliberately chose to launch it anyway, against those headwinds, because they thought maybe it would still make money, and maybe enough desperate PS fans would buy it anyway. Thankfully, it didn't work.

They do not give a shit about any of us. It's literally just about the money. Concord showed that. Marathon will prove it again.
