Hey did you know Mario 64 is mediocre?

Are you adopted? Because if he doesn't have 120, he's gay.

:lol

I don't remember why he never got the last two. Since he had to work and I didn't it took him a lot longer then it took me to beat the game, so it's possible something else came out that distracted him (like Banjo-Kazooie) before he got around to 119 and 120. Or maybe he did get all 120 and it's just been such a long time since I'VE played it that I forgot.

Needless to say, neither one of us got all 120 Shines in Mario Sunshine. I think I have like 116. Fucking blue coins...

I wonder how many actually bothered get all the blue coins in Sunshine. I mean maybe if they were all findable it wouldn't be too too bad, but when some blue coins can only be found if you "spray water on some random object or piece of land", it's just fucking stupid.

I've got 118 stars in Sunshine and a handful of blue coins. Most weren't that hard to find, but the sheer amount of blue coins in the game is rather annoying. Some day I'll snag the rest of those coins.

it's not reall that bad of a list, but i don't think anyone cares enough about jade empire to deserve that spot.

I was going to say this exact thing in my last post, so "quoted for truth" I guess. :)

Mario 64 was actually the reason why I sold my japanese imported N64 2 days after I bought it. I figured out that Tomb Raider which I already had on Playstation was much better and more fun.

Overrated indeed.

i think mario 64 is a lastingly brilliant game that also completely ruined its genre.

edit: metroid prime is the most overrated game since donkey kong country, and perhaps the most overrated game ever. but i think metroid prime will age the same way dkc has -- at release it was mentioned among the best games ever, then no one cared about its sequel, and in the years to come its fans will pretend they never liked it.

Holy wtf wow.

This guy is obviously looking for attention. Denying what Mario 64 was, and is, is just...holy wtf wow.

Yeah, which really, is the only reason why sites do dumb top ten lists, to get folks on message boards all in an uproar. Too bad it works.

I agree with you on Mario 64, though I think the genre is finally coming back to respectability. I agree with you on MP too actually. Though I never really got into any of the Metroid games... so maybe it's me.

Pretty decent list but I'd remove Jade Empire (it was hyped for a little while and then quickly forgotten), and add Goldeneye and God of War in its place. Goldeneye especially - the game had a low frame rate, awkward graphics and repetitive texturing (don't even get me started on how the character models looked), lousy control scheme, atrocious graphics and sub-midi quality music, but all the N fans raved about it and played it to death. Probably because there wasn't anything else to play while PSX fans were all too busy wrapped up in FF7 =P

I just feel that most 3D platforming games, like around the 95% mark, can't come close to re-creating the magic or putting their own spin on the formula. Wasn't the case with 2D platformers, which there are plenty of good ones.

I did it more than once ^^.
Metroid Prime isn't such a presentation driven game, like DKC is. Donkey Kong Country is a good Jump&Run but not even near Yoshis Island or Mario World. Metroid Prime on the other hand is a real master piece.

Damn, this new trend in "Over-Rated" game lists is getting damn old!!

What defines "over-rated"?!?! I would think it's actual published journalist-reviews, and not audiences (since a cult-audience will always love a game 100% ..... )

That being said, he's calling Mario64 "over-rated", yet it has an 82% "avg. critic score" .... That seems about on par with his rating, so why is it on the list?!?

You can't rate SM64 high enough for still being the best 3D J'n'R out there in many ways. The only game that comes close (imo) is Banjo Kazooie which is old as well.^^
Metroid Prime belongs to other top 10 lists, but not on that one.^^
One Series I would put in that list is Need for Speed.

Actually, if you just push the stick forward, you won't always run in a straight line. Forward on the stick always runs away from the camera, but the camera swings around & changes position as you move through rooms, and as you use the C buttons, so you end up having to adjust the direction you push on the analog stick to run in a straight line.

It's something you either get intuitively or have to get used to. Apparently the author couldn't do either.

Oh yeah, and SM64 is one of the best games ever released.

i never liked mario 64 all that much, and yes it was the first game of its type that i had played. It was sort of boring and did not feel like mario to me

i didnt beat the game until i got it for ds :lol

Super Mario Bros 3 > Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 > This Guy

I completed Sunshine will all 120 stars. But I used a guide to find the Blue Coins...

WTF??

It puzzles me that he complains about the controls but completely fails to mention the much more aggravating camera problems.

I think Mario 64 has a lot of problems, and yet I can't name a pure 3D platformer that's better than it, so it can't be overrated, I guess.

The impact of m64 on me was very much lessened by the fact that I was deep into pc gaming at the time. I waited 1h in line to play the japanese demo unit, and stayed literally 2 minutes playing before walking around.

Hell I even rebought the game for my DS and .. I played with it like 30 minutes max

1. They hate everything good.

2. In every little review they say how it sucks, but then say either the game itself, or a sequel is great. Nevermind, they are douchebags.

ya that list is kinda lame. Doom 3 wasn't overrated, i dont remember hearing ONCE that it was a great game, all i ever heard was it was decent with great graphics. And Halo 2 is more overrated then the original, atleast the original brought something new

"Rogan???"

:lol :lol :lol Awesome.

I would have different games on that list if I made it. It seems like they took 10 popular games and said they are over-rated. =\

There are games they are over-rated and aren't that popular that I think should have gone there.

geez, did nintendo rape your dog or something? mario 64 is not overrated, it showed that 3d games with good gameplay were possible on consoles, if there was ever a complain about it was that the dificulty jumps on the last levels (clock tower and rainbow ride)

I agree. I can't believe how many times I tried that stupid clock tower to get to the top. I think I spent almost a week getting all the stars in there. :(

All I know about Mario 64 is that once you get 120 Stars, there's no point to play it ever again.

I'll admit that part of Mario 64's charm was indeed the novelty of having the first 3D Mario title on a brand new Nintendo console, but I still had a tremendous amount of fun with the game - all without having problems with the controls.

The fact that he is bashing it for the controls completely destroys any shred of credibility this moron may have. The controls are the last thing you can hate about Mario 64. So damn brilliant. If the analog stick wasn't centered when he was playing, this guy is a bigger moron than expected.

Mario 64s play control is sloppy
compared to Mario Sunshine
but that doesn't make it "teh suck" ;)

I like Super Mario Sunshine more than SM64; SMS was just a lot more intelligently designed, blue coins notwithstanding. I like a lot of other 3D platformers more than SM64 though, including CRASH BANDICOOT 1.
