Hideo Kojima reveals his next espionage game ‘Physint’ is 5-6 years away

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Hideo Kojima has said that one of his next games, Physint, won't be released for "five or six" years.

Kojima recently spoke to French magazine Le Film Français, during which he was asked about the adaptation of the Death Stranding film, which is currently in production at A24, and if he'd like to work on more films in the future.

When asked if he'd like to direct a film, Kojima replied, "Oh, yes! I received many offers after leaving Konami."

Kojima went on to explain that he has multiple video game projects in development, and that he may consider making a film once Death Stranding 2 and Physint are complete.

"Besides Death Stranding 2, there is Physint in development. That will take me another five or six years. Maybe after that, I could finally decide to tackle a film. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be a kind of homage to it. Besides, I'm getting older, and I would prefer to do it while still young."

Physint was announced in January 2024 during a PlayStation State of Play presentation. Appearing alongside Herman Hulst, Kojima announced that he was working on a "brand-new, original IP," that was a "next-generation action espionage game."

Interestingly, Kojima doesn't mention OD, his upcoming Microsoft project. However, it's possible that this wasn't mentioned because the interview was conducted as part of the ongoing promotion for Death Stranding 2, which Sony Interactive Entertainment is publishing.

This was announced in January 2024. In January they talked about a game that's not coming out for 7+ years at that point.

Ridiculous.

Yep, and he announced the deal back then and said that production of Physint wasn't going to start until they complete DS2, meaning around now. So to released it 5-6 years in the future makes sense.

But who knows, maybe add another one because delays are very common.

But where's OD? I thought it was further along with all the info about using azure and the casting stuff.

Huh, Did they drop OD?

Probably didn't want to talk about it in a Sony publisher funded event.

Gaming industry is due for a crash and reset. It should not take more than half a decade to make a video game. Yet this is the normal way of things now. Even in the ps360 generation, where "HD games are hard and Cell is too complicated!" we still got new games from devs every 2-3 years. This is not sustainable. The games today are not 100% better despite taking 100% longer to make. In many cases they are even worse.

Wonder if he's gonna go for a death stranding 3 as well, or shift right into Physint. He's still got that horror themed MS project as well... fingers crossed that one gets cancelled so he can get this out before 2030

He was making Death Stranding 2 and the OD game. How is it ridiculous?

Stop announcing shit too fucking early, he thinks he's Bethesda.

the turn around from DS 1 announcement to release was barely that long at all.

2016->2019 release.

and the wait between DS2 release and announcement isn't going to be any longer, 2023-2025.

Physint would be the first time he's done that since forming Kojima Productions.

Overdose was only announced last year.

EDIT: actually a 3 year wait these days is almost miraculous and unheard of compared to majority of AAA games out there.

That applies to anyone who announces shit too early, like this game and Elder Scrolls VI (which was announced in 2018).

This is the kind of stuff I think about when people make thread asking for more announcements. Even Bethesda announcing ES6 that early was out of desperation.

So a pretty typical schedule for a new IP? 7 years sound okay. Horizon started development in 2011 and came out in 2017 and this was last gen lol.

They are literally going to put out 2 games, most likely between that time.

and all we really have about physint is a string of letters that barely forms a word. This isn't a Mass effect or Elder scrolls or perfect dark situation where they've pumped marketing into it with CG trailers trying to drum up hype.

That doesn't change that this was announced too early.

To be fair, it was probably Sony's idea to announce it because at the time they could not have Xbox have Kojima all to themselves.
Funny now, wicth Xbox new multiplat angle PS is getting both OD and this, making this move to secure a Kojima game a waste of resources (for that purpose, I don't mean funding his game is a bad idea).

For who though, like what is so exciting about it that we can't wait for it and it's too soon... It's no different than an insider leaking a working title or project.

lets wait to see the game or actually have something concrete, with games taking 10+ years like they are these days we probably need to get use to devs just farting out a name and quietly working away at it.

Again though, Kojipro has already proved they are fairly prolific, so I'm not stressed about it much.

I think he means it's ridiculous it was even announced. Which I agree with why even announce it? Just wait.

Oh yeah..............that I agree with. Feels like Sony wanted to show the world that they had Kojima locked in for the next 7 years with Death Stranding 2 and Physint.
