Hillary Clinton is being urged by a group of prominent computer scientists and election lawyers to call for a recount in three swing states won by Donald Trump, New York has learned. The group, which includes voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz and J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society, believes they’ve found persuasive evidence that results in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania may have been manipulated or hacked. The group is so far not speaking on the record about their findings and is focused on lobbying the Clinton team in private.

Last Thursday, the activists held a conference call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to make their case, according to a source briefed on the call. The academics presented findings showing that in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7 percent fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic-voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots. Based on this statistical analysis, Clinton may have been denied as many as 30,000 votes; she lost Wisconsin by 27,000. While it’s important to note the group has not found proof of hacking or manipulation, they are arguing to the campaign that the suspicious pattern merits an independent review — especially in light of the fact that the Obama White House has accused the Russian government of hacking the Democratic National Committee.

According to current tallies, Trump has won 290 Electoral College votes to Clinton’s 232, with Michigan’s 16 votes not apportioned because the race there is still too close to call. It would take overturning the results in both Wisconsin (10 Electoral College votes) and Pennsylvania (20 votes), in addition to winning Michigan’s 16, for Clinton to win the Electoral College.

Personally, I'd be fine with a full on re-vote. Maybe the horrors of a Trump presidency have set in on these people.

Is this what that cyber attack prior to the election was actually about?

I don't hope this is true because then any faith in our elections is...gone.

Electronic voting machines aren't connected to the Internet, though. So any hacking would be on the state election site, which should be easy to reconcile with any machines. I would think.

That's statistical analysis and evidence of vote hacking? Lol

After believing that story about a server communicating secretly with a Russian bank at first on the reporter's claims of "persuasive evidence," I'm gonna wait for more people to weigh in on this before I care.

Poll: Trump's popularity soars after election

Donald Trump’s popularity is rising in the days since his election, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll of registered voters.

Forty-six percent of voters now have a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the president-elect. Twelve percent have a somewhat unfavorable opinion and 34 percent have a very unfavorable opinion of him.

If there's evidence, then do it. Even if it doesn't result in enough EV to tip the election, it's definitely in the public's interest to know about it.

The prospect that an outside force, Russia, China, whoever... can hack the US election is a scary one.

Simple paper ballots have some advantages.

Part of me is pretty sure that if there was a recount, it'd be theoretically possible to win Michigan and Wisconsin (especially Michigan, which should could win outright anyway). Which, fine. Maybe

But that doesn't get you 270. I'm very suspicious there'd be a way to close a 60,000 vote gap in Pennsylvania. I just don't see it happening, and my guess is a lot of these issues can be addressed through looking at the education in these counties.

We lost. It sucks. She lived in Pennsylvania and carried key counties that we thought would matter. The early vote looked good in Florida. The early returns looked great in Florida. But she lost and there's nothing we can do about it now.

Fuck I feel like I'm having an anxiety attack again.

Let's just take the L for the next 4 years.

Yeahhhh.

I love Hillary Clinton.

But challenging the result would cause more problems than it solves.

Let's just hope Mike Pence is actually the secret President of "domestic and foreign policy" and can moderate Trump's more ridiculous foreign policy ideas, as well as not fuck stuff up too bad domestically.

This is totally grasping at straws. If there were actual evidence of hacking, then sure do it. But the disparity in votes isn't so huge as to assume something fishy is going on.

Yeah, no.

I'm well fucking done with setting a narrative and letting imagination take over, thanks. Proof would be amazing but I expect this to go nowhere judging by this sentence.

Hundreds of thousands of ballots were disqualified in several states where Clinton lost by 50k or less. Someone needs to investigate those incidents and explain why. It seems all too easy to just dismiss large numbers of ballots in a way that will just allow one candidate to slide ahead of the other enough to take the electoral votes.

This election has eclipsed the bullshit that the GOP pulled on Gore at this point IMO. Recount and investigate, we need to not let this stuff happen, and make it clear it's not okay.

States have to certify their Presidential election results by a certain date or can be thrown out by Congress as invalid (See: Bush v. Gore, 2000). Considering several states certified their results today (MI and NC that I know of, and I'm guessing a lot more, if not all), this would be political insanity to even attempt.
