HL2 + HDTV = odd slowdown. Help...

OK, I've finally attached my PC to my TV via HDMI and it looks wonderful. Everything works great except for Half-Life 2. Basically, it looks and runs very well for about 5-10 minutes. After that, however, I start to get some very odd slowdown. At random intervals, the framerate will drop very low and the sound will start to crackle. It kicks in and out of this as you play. When using a monitor at the same resolution, this does not occur.

Any ideas? I'm still using a 9700 Pro in my desktop, for reference, and this problem occurs at all resolutions (including 640x480).

Nah, I found one for WAYYY cheaper than that.

It works so much better on my 6800 as well. All games are running in 720p at great framerates.

yeah Im using an old Nvidia card and I haven't noticed that problem.. I dont play alot of PC games though. I run my desktop at 1080i and it looks good (with a little bit of flickering though).

I don't have that problem, although i'm using a VGA connection and i run the game great, i have a 9800 PRO.

The only thing I can't seem to do with the 6800 is 480p on the fly. On the 9700 Pro, if a game tries to use 640x480, it will drop to 480p. A lot of games do not offer widescreen resolutions, so a full 480p image would be the next best option. You have to manually switch your entire desktop to 480p in order for it to work.
