did a bit of reading, and realised that some of the cocoa beans processed are very likely to have natural contaminants (which is apparently better than having harmful chemicals used to "sterilise" the bad stuff). according to the FDA, anything under 60 insect pieces per 100 grams of chocolate is deemed safe for consumption... WTF!?

still want a "croanchy" chocolate bar GAF? what are you thoughts now?

What's a croanchy?

That's for most foods:

http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceReg...mation/SanitationTransportation/ucm056174.htm

BROCCOLI, FROZEN Insects and mites
(AOAC 945.82) Average of 60 or more aphids and/or thrips and/or mites per 100 grams

CHERRIES
Brined and Maraschino Insect filth
(MPM-V48) Average of 5% or more pieces are rejects due to maggots

CORN: SWEET CORN, CANNED Insect larvae
(AOAC 973.61) Insect larvae (corn ear worms, corn borers) 2 or more 3mm or longer larvae, cast skins, larval or cast skin fragments of corn ear worms or corn borer and the aggregate length of such larvae, cast skins, larval or cast skin fragments exceeds 12 mm in 24 pounds (24 No. 303 cans or equivalent)

Chocolate is known for hosting a metric crapload of bugs. This shouldn't come as a surprise.

Also, having worked in an ice cream factory during my teens, you don't want to know the horrors that lurk in the dark corners of the non-refrigerated chambers.

yet you probably eat at McDonalds?

What's the connection? Maccas is so heavily scrutinized and its so transparent about suppliers that its one of the cleanest, least contaminated fast food chains out there.

If you dropped me off in the middle of Nowhere, Hicksville I'd always eat at Maccas instead of some unknown local ma and pa squirrel roadkill burger joint.

Macca is the other end of the spectrum, their food is full of preservants that bugs wouldn't probably touch it.

I don't know, I would rather go to a Ma and Pa if it was full of customers.

Its sterile and it adds protein. What's the problem?

Maccas? What?

I was eating some (cheap) store bought salsa the other night when I thought about this report. Needless to say I then starting thinking of all the insects parts and other shit that could be within the salsa. I stopped eating it and am hesitant to go back to it.

It's the price we pay for mass produced goods. It's not like you haven't eaten bugs unknowingly before tho. I'm sure you ate some while you slept in the night. Probably.

Way back in high school biology we "dissected" Hersey's Kisses. We found some cricket parts.

Do you think they make sure the field is clear of insects when they harvest wheat? Flour also has ground up insects in it. Not to mention the fact that certain food dies are just strait up made from beetle shells.

There are bugs and bug parts in everything you eat. They're everywhere. I've swallowed bugs whole while outside. It happens.

Ain't no thang but a (butterfly) wing.

I honestly dont care. In fact the second i read about those Ikea meatballs having some human poo bacteria i made them myself at home.

Yes i bought them from Ikea.
