Honestly my hype diminished when I read the game had enemy camps and was following open world tropes. I dont know what I was expecting but its not that. I was hoping it would be more akin to traditional zelda where you have to go out to several large multilayer dungeons mixed with a hogwarts lesson based hub. We'll see .
I do remember some ads at the time of the first announcement but obviously don't know how much they spent on it but it's more of a general FYI when you look at Youtube view numbers.
Lord of the rings gets credit for it's influence but its world and story is pretty bland to be honest

You are over thinking it, its a financial deal. WB wants to leverage a big channel with a dedicated audience, they cut Sony a big check, Sony then uses their channel for them. There is nothing saying the State of Play can't be used that way. Sony never once said "Only XX will ever appear on this channel"

Why wouldn't they? State of Play is a content marketing channel, WB is in full on movie promotional mode right now for Fantastic Beast 3, and leveraging that films marketing budget to help all other HP IP's at this time. WB is buying up tons of OTT and other media channels right now.

They make it clear to you the reason for a SOP for a multiplatform game..... "trailer was viewed 28 million times".
The goal is to link Harry Potter to Playstation. Take advantage of the strength of the IP to advertise PS5 and (as has happened before) leave the (false) feeling of an exclusive game among the most casual public.
That is, a effective tactic that is not new and has been used by companies for a long time.

Awesome. Finally some more Hogwarts Legacy which was somewhat like a rollercoaster ride so far for me since I was not sure if this game will end up in development hell due to internal (but also external) factors.
No idea how many years it has been since I first read the HP book, but ever since I dreamt about a good HP game and I am still excited for it
