Hogwarts Legacy Switch 2 VS XSS comparison (Spoiler alert: They're basically the same)

Let's go buddies, these seems to be great times for gaming, Nintendo finally catching up in many aspects to competition in tech due in part to diminishing return.

Here's a new comparison video between Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy against Xbox Series S. Ignore Switch 1 please, that thing is meh.

Now, here's the thing: Switch 2 version is confirmed to be 4K@30fps, probably just using DLSS performance or ultra performance, which is still better than TAA or FSR 2.

All third party games of consequence are optional on Nintendo platforms. You're there for Mario & Co. and anything else is gravy.
That's right for me and you, but there are some people I've known that are happy with Switch as their only platform, even for third parties, besides, this removes my necessity of getting another console for online gaming (I want PC only for single players) since I tend to have PC + Nintendo anyway. Fighting games are better on console than PC for pick and play local multiplayer IMO, I'll definitely be getting Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2

I saw this earlier today. The lighting looks a little more natural on the Series S, though some of that may be differences in time of day, but, yeah, otherwise basically indistinguishable.

The XSS is a pathetic excuse of a console and should never have been made.

Anyone who willingly chooses to play Hogwarts at 30fps is insane. Don't do it to yourself. 60fps is the accepted standard these days.

Yes, The Witcher 3 sold more on the Switch than on Playstation platforms for 2 seperate years, and the horrible Hogwarts Legacy port on the Switch has been getting the fair share of console sales in 2024. There is a reason why CD Projekt Red want Cyberpunk on the Switch, its gonna sell very well.

pretty damn impressive for a handheld

Huge generational upgrade

I will say - textures, at least in that comparison, are better on Switch 2 than XSS. Especially notable with the close up character's hair, skin and clothing early on in the comparison

Dear Nintendo Diehards: I understand that you're excited right now but please don't drag Switch 2 into this silly DF pixel peeping graphic war 😭.

Switch devs & gamers had a peaceful life the last 8 years do not do this . Enjoy the games

Too late, budy, I've been a PC gamer for more than a decade now, I've been drawn already several times... But it's fun! I mean, not shitting on other consoles, just seeing how capable each hardware is and imagining what can be achieved with it :D

Not actually, in handheld it's clearly not as powerful but yeah, I get what you say

Comparisons will get much more interesting when the Z2 Extreme handhelds launch, especially since they will already have many of these same games that are being shown off for Switch 2.

Looks significantly better than Series (as)S.

Anyone who thinks they look the same needs to get a nice pair of new glasses.

Switch 2 looks quite a bit worse tbh. I also don't care that it's a portable machine because i've personally never seen anyone carrying an original switch around in public. 99% of people are going to carry there smartphone over a switch in public which makes the switches portability useless.

I see Switch devices in the airport all the time. People do carry them around.

In airports and on airplanes it makes sense but when you're shopping, out to eat, etc it makes more sense to use a smartphone. I think smartphones have taken over for dedicated portable machines nowadays cause of how capable they're.

Yes it's great seeing what new hardware is capable of, it's the most exciting time when new consoles come out but in the long run this will be a killjoy.

If it's entertained the YouTubers will be picking apart every game just to get views.

Realizing diminishing returns is a thing, the Sony Ponies and green rats throw all their weight behind 60 fps, because it's all they had left.

Starting with you.

The first screenshot I might give to the Switch 2, but the Series S is better in all the rest.

One small example is there are waaaay more candles on screen on the Series S in the dining room scene. And environment detail goes to the Series S.

That said....this is the comparison I wanna see, Series S vs Switch 2.

Switch 2 does a couple things better than Series S, but Series S looks better overall.

Like Series S is missing some background geometry like a massive mountain (top left).

Or Switch 2 seems to have a higher draw distance for light sources (unless they're dynamic, I never played the game)

But this one is the worst for Series S. So much so that I believe the uploader labeled the images wrong. Series S is missing shading, the shop window has less detail... the lack of shadows make the other screenshot look flat.
