New ‘Scary Movie’ in the Works From Paramount
The Miramax label at Paramount under new boss Jonathan Glickman is getting back into the Scary Movie business with a new movie that will go into production this year for theatrical release in 2025.
Dimension Films, a former genre label of Miramax, originally released the Scary Movie comedies during the early aughts grossing north of $896M through five movies.
Miramax will finance the new Scary Movie and Paramount will distribute. The news comes after Miramax named Jonathan Glickman CEO.
There’s no word on if this new take will feature original stars, an all-new cast or a mix (a legacy sequel, if you will).

I hope it hits the highs of 1-4, and not the lows of Scary Movie 5. Hopefully Cindy and Brenda are back.

The RackaRacka boys from YouTube were offered to write/direct it after they released Talk to Me.

Morbid humour is right up their alley but they ultimately turned it down.

Would be great if they reunited the Chanels as the main cast.

Horror is in such a wierd place right now, what even is the dominant vibe?

They gotta look at blumhouse stuff to parody, I guess. Or just say "I love A24!" and the whole cast just scratches their heads in confusion :p

Who knows. I'm too lazy to check, but I dont know what the sales are like for any kind of horror movie.

I've never been a horror fan. I find old school slashers like Friday the 13th cheesy, Scary Movie spoofs silly, but movies like Saw or Ring too creepy to watch.

If I watch a horror flick (if it can even be called that), I prefer ones that are more like just sci-fi killing movies like Terminator 1 which some people classify as horror. I never thought of it as horror as I always thought it was an action movie with Arnie. But if those kinds of movies can be labeled horror, those are the movies I'd watch.

The window for these "Movie Movies" is long gone, the Wayne's walking away when they did was a sign in hindsight.

This is the same family that openly said they have members who stopped taking to them because they said they aren't funny and they wouldn't put them on any projects.

I kind of really want it because parody comedies and silly comedies aren't really a thing anymore. Spoof films if you will.

But I also don't trust any modern writer to really get the humor right.

I still remember trying to watch that pentavarate or whatever the Michael Myers show was called and even with him helming the show it still felt a little held back, watered down and censored

Where is Waynes World 3 with old Wayne and Garth, Bill And Ted Face The Music style. at this point though, i am surprised we haven’t gotten old forest gump yet. Espescially with there being a fucking sequel book.

That would be interesting but you absolutely have to get Dana carvey back, didn't he kind of say he's done with movies?

There were rumblings of an Austin powers 4 as well haha but I doubt we'll see that either.

It's happening, and the Wayans are returning!

I know people love to hate on Marlon these days (with good reason), but Keenen and Shawn returning is good news IMO.

The genre is ripe for mockery right now, especially with all the Blumhouse crap coming out.

Ehhhhhhh, I'll curb my enthusiasm until i see a trailer. Their style of humor back then was already a bit hit or miss with me and I'm not sure a "modern" version of it would be any better.

If they could do a proper roasting of tropes and not hold back on "protected classes" then there is hope. The Peele films in particular could just some mockery. And yeah, A24 and Blumhouse as well. Even Terrifier needs to be put on blast for how predictable it has become.

The first two Scary Movies were a perfect storm of right place right time and zeitgeist comedy.

There is no way they'll ever reach the same level again but god bless them for trying.

Would it even work if no one has seen what they are parodying? Or are they going to fill it with 10 year old stuff because there hasn't been one for a while?

The first 2 of this series are the only ones I found funny. The rest just got worse and worse over time. But if the Wayans are back, there might be some hope, though even then that's no guarantee it'll bring the funny, especially if you only bring back Marlon without Keenan Ivory Wayans.

"Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans are returning to the film series to pen the script for the new project that was announced"

Okay, some sparks of hope are now there.

I liked 3 and 4. Those were Zucker Brothers' films, I believe. They were toned down but still funny to me. I think 5 was direct-to-DVD trash.

I like those two a lot too. It's just David Zucker on those, not either of the other Airplane/Naked Gun guys. He did bring along Leslie Nielsen!
The entire Cindy/Brenda series (1-4, not 5) is just fantastic. I rewatch them once or twice a year. I place them alongside Airplane! as the best spoof films.

The Zucker ones are a step down from the Wayans ones, but they definitely still have their moments.

Like Scary Movie 3 has the most subtle joke about Kevin Hart's height ever.

Notice how he grows from one shot to the next. Literally a 1-second gag that most people probably didn't even notice :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Meanwhile, the Borderlands movie writer made an entire scene where they poke fun at his height...

Sending flowers to their bitches and hoes is one of the most patriotic things an American President can do, in this day and age.

Parody some previous hot movies of the last decade and throw in some black pop culture and it's a W. I FULLY expect to see something about Diddy Party's.

Scary movies were edgy immature humor, the Hollywood morons take themselves way too seriously now to make these jokes, the movie is gonna be spectacularly unfunny like the vast majority of Hollywood "comedies" nowadays

Btw I love the Wayne's brothers, I just think they'll be sabotaged in every step of the way and be completely neutered
