Relax guys, FOX is righting the only Marvel ship that that matters anymore. They will be our beacon into the comic-book movie fyucha.

I look forward to reading your posts Sculli in the "Brian Singer jailed for rape, Brett Ratner brings the Apocalypse back to X-Men" thread.

Wow, I'm surprised they're not pushing back the release date. They're going to be cutting it close with post production if they don't hurry with a hire.

They can call it whatever they want, but Marvel's probably been getting cold feet for a while now, and is using a rather small transgression (like a missed deadline) as evidence to justify a parting of the ways.

If I may ask, what have they been getting cold feet on? I don't recall what Marvel Studio's has been saying recently to say this so I'm curious.

As for the missed deadline thing, I think it plays more in that Marvel finally had a deadline in place for when and where they wanted to release Ant Man. Once the clock was running so was money, and I can't really fathom that by the time Marvel finally announced when the movie would be released (in Phase 3) that Wright didn't have some say in it (in that he could or could not complete it by that timeframe). If he was behind in that as rumored then that is pretty much on him unfortunately.

We are only 14% done with the 21st century so why don't we wait a few decades before we start naming names like that.

You guys are really making this guy out to be Movie Jesus when all he did was direct a bunch of British drinking movies. You guys are making me sick. Literally NOBODY is talking about Ant-Man yesterday now all of a sudden he is the fucking crown jewel to the Marvel Kingdom. As if, they have PAUL RUDD as the lead in this shitfest yeah? The only thing that would make that movie watchable is and always will be Michael Douglas.

careful man, there's brits in this thread right now

I was referring to the potential inside information on Reddit. I have no idea why Marvel would get cold feet...Although, if I had to take a guess... perhaps they feared Wright's approach was too stylish or narrow in appeal. Maybe it was just too different, and not everyone with a say was entirely on board.

Who directed 21 Jump Street? "Phil Lord and Chris Miller". If they wanna do an action-comedy-crime thing, that flick is the only one that popped into my mind to have similar zany energy (different of course from Wright).

Been hearing talk of potentially bringing in Ratner.

They MUST make their release date!

I will fucking kill somebody.

DON'T EVEN JOKE ABOUT THAT.

now we just need the "sot themselves in the foot" parody

I don't know how much the rest-

Marvel just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about comic book film culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in other films where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in the comic book film culture, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the comic book film audience, after hearing about this, is not going to want to watch Ant-Man, nor will they watch any more of Marvel's films. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Marvel has alienated an entire market with this move.

Marvel, publicly apologize and cancel Ant-Man or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Oh. Well, you can't get them all.

Nicely played, Droid.

The word from people on the crew is Wright got booted for being REALLY behind schedule and being ineffective at righting the ship and getting it back on track. Production has been bleeding money for a month and Marvel got fed up with him and they lost their confidence in his ability to manage a production of this size.

From the thread about this on reddit. Grain of salt of course, but it's plausible.

Damn it, Edgar.

Gotta call bullshit. Scott Pilgrim was a $90m film. Wright isn't a noobie to big budgets.

It might be a culture clash. More corporate project, wasn't able to reign in and have the control he's used to? Wound up wasting time, bled money, wasn't able deal with things how he usually deals with them. As a result, Marvel had to cut the losses to make the date?

haha chill I was certain the implicit "so far" was clear. He has made some of the best movies of the 21st century so far, that's not "naming names" (?) it's truth

And I don't know where your proof is that nobody was talking about it, because pretty much every critic I pay attention to and most of my friends had Ant-Man as one of if not the marvel movie they were most looking forward to. Sorry you're out of the loop dude best of luck next time

also Paul Rudd is hilarious. I Love You Man, Clueless, Parks and Rec, Wet Hot American Summer.

I should dig through your post history to find the proof and breathlessly post it and wait for people to comment on it so I can tell them that I was the one who dug through your post history to find it :)

It's there bro...

It was a joke though. I said his editing style wouldn't fit with the MCU so they would fire him. 100% joking but yeah...

EDIT: Wright shade? Y'all some lowbrow film lovers.

Gotta love how the only response to people disappointed in this news some can muster is "well, Wright's movies don't make any money anyway, so fuck him and fuck you." As if people aren't allowed to be upset a director they like is now longer making a movie they were looking forward to because the box office says so.

This is offtopic, but stuff like this has me thinking maybe I need to just exit "nerd culture" (as in, online discussion of games, movies, etc) altogether. I just don't enjoy talking about this stuff anymore because everything gets reduced down to some binary extremist bullshit where everyone's rushing to cape for big faceless companies. Bleh.

They're busying working on our Justice League sequel

Just watched this for the first time yesterday, and I would absolutely love it if the dynamic between Superman and GL in the actual JLA movie was the same as it was in the Lego Movie.

What's funny is that I could see this very well being the case.

Wright doesn't shoot a lot of coverage (he obviously still shoots coverage, but not to the extent of other directors). He knows exactly what he's cutting to because he has every shot and bridging shot planned out. That's his style.

What it also means is that if Marvel decided that they didn't like what they were seeing, they couldn't take over and 'fix it' in editing because there's nothing else to cut to and no other way to edit the film together except Wright's pre-planned vision.

For me, it's more a matter of being a lot more discerning regarding what hills you're going to fight on, and who you're going to engage. :)

It's nuts that 'consumer's; and 'fans' put so much interest in box office numbers, who really gives a shit about all that

tapdance around topics like this rei. keep your sanity by avoiding sales numbers

Soooo .... this guy is the main reason people used to tell me that this film was gonna be worth seeing even though I think his power is lame and that the common viewer has no interest in seeing it..

What now?

not much difference from the other extremists saying "they just want another marvel movie" basically shitting on every other director that's worked a marvel film just because Wright is one of their favorites. Not saying your one of them i couldn't be bothered to look back.

This is why I'm not concerned. People cried foul when Alan Taylor got hired for Thor 2 and the Russos got brought on for Cap 2. Everyone thought they would suck...but they didn't. They turned out better than the originals IMO.
Have you seen any of Wright's films?

The dream is dead, people. :( I never realized how much I was anticipating this film 'till today.
