I was just watching "Coming to America" for the 1000th time and never noticed Hakeem gives money to Randolph and Mortermur.

Anybody else notice this, or was i not paying attention?

That's almost the *only* thing I remember from that movie.

There was some talk of a Trading Places sequel based off of that, but Don Ameche's dead and probably the other guy, too, by now.

I dont know how i let that slip... I've seen both movies too many times not to notice this...

I'm still laughing at myself.

I came into this thread expecting potential teenage pregnancy drama. You've disapointed me once more, GAF, you've disapointed me once more...

I noticed it the first time I saw the movie. We're talking at least 10 years here.

When I first saw the movie, I was really confused by that scene. I thought, "hey, does this mean Coming To America and Trading Places are set in the same movie universe?"

You would have to be dead, blind, deaf, stupid and mute to not notice that....

I saw that movie when I was 13 and I knew who they were....

Haha I remember that now. I think Mortimer was yelling and waking up Randolph, right? I saw TP after CtA, so I never picked up on that.

Yeah that was the coolest part of the movie.

Nah, that would be when the cab driver exclaimed "You dumb fuck!" at Hakeem when he stood in the street yelled "Halt!"

Wow yeah I noticed that immediately, especially because Randolph says...
"Mortimer we're back."

Yeah that's one of those mark out moments... I loved that.

I like Coming to America but IMO

Trading Places > Coming to America

remember you get big boogies in Trading Places! No I'm not talking about Jamie Lee' Curtis' boobie shot.

GET THE FUCK OUT!!!

Even Bigger Black Guy: You beatin' 10 cops. How come I don't see no bruises on you?
Billy Ray Valentine: 'Cause I'm a karate man, see! And a karate man bruises on the inside! They don't show their weakness. But you don't know that because you're a big Barry White looking motherfucker!

How can someone have never seen Trading Places or Coming to America? That was pretty much half of TBS's line-up for three years.

the whole scene in the barbershop, where Eddie is cutting a young Cuba Gooding Jr's hair, and he isnt even touching it, and they are talking about Martin luther THE King and then Rocky Marciano, and Eddie as the old jewish guy, that was hysterical....

nah, the best part of the movie was "YES, YES, FUCK YOU TOO!"

No the best part of the movie is:
Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. A guy walks into a restaurant and orders a bowl of soup. Are you listening?

Here's something else to find:
The guy doing the running man in the initial dance scene.

Oh yeah, and mortimer says, 'We're back in business.' Damn, your late.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I remember years ago when I saw CTA for maybe the third or so time, and I finally realized who the bums he gave money to were. I was blown away......what a beautiful tie-in.

Both movies are absolute classics and must-sees. I'd buy the Trading Places DVD if it weren't for the fact that it's one of those movies I've seen a thousand +1 times. CTA, though, I need to get...

Didn't John Landis direct those films?

I wonder why he hasn't been doing any movies, did he pass away or something?

No, he's still alive, He's been kind of tainted though after the accident that killed Vic Morrow and two children during the segment he filmed for Twilight Zone: The Movie. He had to go to trial for Manslaughter and it destroyed his friendship with Steven Speilberg for (Landis) wanting to finish the movie after the accident.

He still did some movies afterwards though, Three Amigos , Spies like Us, Coming to America however was his last good film. (Unless you liked The Stupids, or Blues Brothers 2000)

These are some of the movies he directed, some of the best movies from the late 70's to early 80's

Trading Places (1983)
Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' (1983) (V)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
The Blues Brothers (1980)
Animal House (1978)
The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977)

and to get a better understanding of where his career is now the plot for his latest movie Real Men: A small-town football game where straight and gay men compete against one another unexpectedly attracts international attention.
