I don't give a damn who wins this election in the end, as I live nowhere near the state, but I find it funny how the Republicans suddenly say "it's too close to call" when they've been calling their boy "governer-elect" for the past few weeks.

The final results are in and the democrat won by 10 votes. I'm curious as to see if the republican will conceed... seeing as how they've been crying for the democrat to do so this whole time. I have a feeling they'll contradict themselves now that they're down.

It also helps that they tried to count all the votes. There were like several hundred votes that were not counted the first time around. Somehow all this talk about recounts being bad makes me look at them strange.

Don't get too confident. This can still happen. But yes, I totally respect you for living in that-place-left-unnamed.

Looks like they're gonna allow the addition of 750 mistakenly left out ballots. Those'll probably be in tomorrow or Friday. Should net the Democrat Gregoire 40 or so more votes.

Ummmm....

If it was any other county, yeah probably a net of +40 votes, but its KingCo, and it's heavily democratic. I'd say look for a gain of at least 100.

Republicans will probably ask for a runoff/revote.

i kinda hope that Gregoire wins, because my mom works in Olympia.

Haha... yeah.... the Republicans aren't admitting defeat. I laugh at how when they were ahead they had Chris Vance out there calling on Gregroire again and again to conceed. Now that they're loosing, its all "we aren't giving up, we'll never surrender!" I realize that the democrats would most likely do the same, but still.... :lol

Even the Republican Attorney General (I believe that's who it was on the radio) says that another election would be completely inappropriate. He also says that the Republican attempts to try and find more Republican votes in other precincts/counties isn't supported under law. The reason the democrats were apparently able to use these previousy ommitted votes was because the county or whatever hadn't certified its vote count yet, wherease the rest of the counties already have. I may have gotten that wrong though.

Uh Gregoire is the Attorney General. :lol

You probably meant the Secretary of State.

I know Gregoire, she's from my hometown and has worked closely with my Uncle who is a state senator for the Puyallup area. I find some of Rossi's beliefs surrounding religion and abortion rights a little frightening, it's interesting they haven't been brought up by the media more. Even with Gregoire possibly winning now, this election is nothing but trouble, the backlash against Gregore if she does in fact win will be terrible.

I find it really funny how the Republicans were adamantly opposed to adding the new ballots discovered here in King County, but now that they're losing, they are scouring the state for more undiscovered votes. I realize that that Democrats would probably do the same thing, but still...

You all know both sides don't play fair.
You're delusional if you think the democrats play any more fair than the republicans.

Oh, I know they both do it, but in this situation, the Republican party has been telling the Democrats to give up the fight and that including new ballots was wrong and deceitful. If they truly believed that, they should've stuck to their guns instead of now running around the state looking for more ballots.

I'm not sure sure how I feel about all of this. I voted for Gregoire, but I am getting sick that this election has taken over two months now, and it will more than likely continue for another three to four weeks.

this was brought up often during the debates and all through the presidential race. We all know this, why are we constantly reminded of such? (Usually from whichever party is currently getting the shaft in regards to 'playing fair')

At this point, I don't care who wins. I voted for Christine, but I really don't like her silent stance on Lock's tax proposal. At least Rossi came out and said he would not raise taxes.

At least one thing will become crystal clear... our current voting system is inadequate. Some counties use punch cards, some electronic, some draw lines, and some fill circles. There really needs to be a nationwide standard.

Gregoire now leads by 130 votes after the additional 700+ votes from King County were added to the total. Gregoire made a public announcement tonight, but did not claim victory. Nothing yet from Rossi. Expect a lawsuit from the Republicans (can you really blame them?) soon.

Rossi actually issued a statement saying that we still don't have a Governor-Elect. So fuck that noise, you didn't here them saying that after they won the first two counts. Those bastards.

When did Rossi put out that statement? Hm, I must have stopped paying attention to Northwest Cable News or something... Yes yes, I agree that the Republicans are becoming hypocritical little people, but we (Democrats) do the same thing when it's reversed. Oh well, at least Gregoire isn't claiming victory yet. In any event, this is bad for the state and election reforms need to take place.

Rossi tried to get my uncle to be a member of his cabinet as a way to remove him from his position as senator for the 25th district, the Republicans would love to see him lose his power. Then Gregoire asks him to head up the new primary board if she is elected. I'm going to have a nice long talk with him tomorrow night at our Christmas Eve get-together, I'm curious as to what the state politicians think about all of this.

what's a primary board?

Washington state has been having some difficulty developing a primary election system. We had our state primary deemed unconstitutional, so we went with the format the majority of the states use. Even though it is illegal, the majority of our citizens decided to pass an initiative doing away with this primary, putting us back at square one. The primary board will help develop a new primary election system for the state.

I'm surprised the Republican's even close to the Democrat considering Washington went Kerry.

People here were upset after Locke was unable to get much done these last eight years, they wanted to change, and Rossi did a good job convincing people in the state he could do that better than another Democrat.

Washington State goes to the Democrats because of King County's dominant population, while the rest of the state votes Republican more often than not.

Actually, its more complicated than that. While KingCo has a lot of Demos, the rest of the state combined (that is, the other 38 counties) has more Demos.

Look at this map, it's not as cramped as you'd think:

CFT1223_10381934BA7.png

(Green = Blue = Democrat [for Kerry] and Grey = Red = Republican [for Bush])

I just wrote a 30 page report on Democratic Party organization in Washington, it's all too real...

The scariest thing about this election is finding out how incopetent so many of the counties are at counting votes. There were a handful (3 or 4) that had changes of over 1% between the first count and the second machine recount. That's a big enough change that it could effect a lot of elections. Secondly, King County found huge chunks of votes that hadn't been counted, plus the fiasco with signatures on absentee ballots. I'm not overly confident that my vote will be counted in the future :(
