Recently discovered in Wilmington that our drinking water has been filled with a chemical called GenX for years, and the area on the whole is very conservative.

However, they filmed One Tree Hill here. So that's a plus.

I loved my time in Wilmington when I was in University. Though if the major deciding factor on where to move is politics there are other more liberal areas in the state.

North Carolina Republicans all seem like the worst people in the world. When we get back into power we need to send them all to North Korea.

Republicans in other red states don't quite have the amount of challenge the NCGOP has. Swing states like Ohio, PA, Michigan, and Wisconsin have incompetents running the State Dem parties who pose no threat, while in blue states the GOP has no latitude to be really bad (when they are, like Bruce Rauner in IL, they are instantly castigated).

Texas GOP will become like the NCGOP in 10 years when they're starting to see the state of the state shift beneath their feet. Much more vicious and defensive of their historical power.

Like a lot of states, the GOP gained power in the 2010 midterm wave. Then they gerrymandered the fuck out of the state.

Republicans still control this state via veto-proof majorities in the legislature. There's not much a Democratic governor can do to stop them.

That. Districts in NC are gerrymandered to the point of absurdity. Without redrawn maps, Democrats cannot regain power and can't really make much gains.

There are ongoing court battles over the districts. Of course, the NC GOP would also like to gerrymander the courts.

Yeeeppp. Been fighting against it. There was a community forum about it at UNCW tonight but I couldn't make it. Wilmington doesn't seem to be conservative, but it's definitely surrounded by conservatives. Could just be the (liberal) company I keep.

Well, you can't fix stupid.

One thing I notice here is that we have lots and lots of old white Christian people that brainwash the younger generation. They only vote republican. Some of the churches here teach that Trump is the hand of Christ.

This is correct, they never seek out information for themselves and if they do its only from word of mouth. Some even praise rush limbaugh, bragging about how long they listen to him. Just the other day i was talking to an older lady that swore trump is going to bring our jobs back but people will have to work with him and trust him.
