Hori introduces PS4 controller with asymmetrical sticks

This is a PS4 controller? Looks almost certainly to be designed primarily for the PS3, what with it having none of the additional components added to the DS4.

Hori are generally pretty good so it would probably be comfortable to hold. I'm used to the symmetrical sticks on the PS pads now though. Lack of touch pad is a little strange.

hori usually makes good stuff but all they had to do in this case was take the current ps4 design and swap the dpad and stick locations.... maybe use better quality material on the sticks too then call it a day.

So it won't be usable with a large number of games. Okay.
True, but this seems to be mostly for those that want to play FPS titles on the PS4. I'm assuming that BF4 and Ghosts don't use the touchpad in any way? If so, I doubt the next games their respective series will either, making this the perfect controller for those coming from the other side of the fence.

That controller reminds me of this for the PS3:

(That's the PowerA controller for PS3. I actually own one, they aren't too bad surprisingly).

Use it every day. Sticks are slightly tall and there is a slight deadzone...but the shape, texture, analog stick placement and amount of rumble make it my controller of choice. Feels plasticy too.. but i still love it. I no longer use the DS4 for my PS3 games. (accept for the Show)

like someone else posted, this will be used for stick modding mostly. unless it has no dead zone and is as responsive as DS4 why bother?

actually, i think that dpad looks pretty damn good. now im kind of hoping for some good reviews on the dead zone. i may pick one up as another option. it would be nice to have a second controller. ive been holding off until the ds4 analog issue is sorted out. and if its like the fighting commander pro, it looks like you can chnage the andle of the analog sticks. the FCP had the same option but for the DPAD.

Of the released PS4 games, how many use the touchpad?

Quite a bit and it's a little premature to assume games won't use them in the future since it's more buttons for devs to use basically. It's the start of the generation and people are already writing it off when most of the big Sony studios haven't even released games.

Will it be used for gimmicks for some games? Of course, but will it be worthless in all games? Nope, because at the very least, it's more buttons!

Hell, Sixaxis was pretty useless and I got a third-party controller for Christmas that didn't have it so I thought it was no big deal. Then I was playing my favorite MP game at the time, SOCOM: Confrontation, and threw a grenade just to find out I basically just rolled it on the ground under-handed about 2 inches away from me..That's when I remembered the grenades used Sixaxis controls to dictate how you threw it so I couldn't even used grenades properly unless I could roll it at someone. Needless to say, that controller was returned right away.

Errr are they allowed to even do that? Allow a controller peripheral that disables functionality?

Seems like they can scam people for it, or some people might start blaming Sony for not supporting it.

The best PS3 controller wasn't even a Sony controller. It just worked via dinput even though it was made for PC.

God, the F710 made playing the PS3 a lot more enjoyable.
I like these controllers too, but the dpad is not as durable as the DS. I like the dpad design, but I've had two where the dpad has broken.

So they've potentially added one positive feature but removed others the least of which is making it at least appear to be a lot less comfortable to hold.

I'll pass.

Agreed. Still don't understand why Sony doesn't offer a model with asymmetrical sticks. Seems like it would spur controller sales and generate additional profits.

Same reason MS don't offer Sony style controller - controller design is part of the console's brand.

Who cares about that? I finally get a damn controller worth a damn for FPS. I'm all for it. Let me bind spot to select and it's good for BF4. Mmm... yes.

Both the DS4 and 720's pad are pretty awful after coming from the 360 pad. They both do things wrong.

What select button?

I dont understand how you can use it when it doesn't have a touchpad.....

I mean....really. It's like making an N64 controller without an anolog stick or a 360 pad without a home button.

It would be cool if someone makes a real asymmetrical stick controller with touch pad and stuff. Until then I'll use the PS4 controller.

Looks like something from circuit city circa 1996.

I wish Sony would just introduce an alternate controller that has this layout of analog and that MS would offer a Sony style layout. That way everyone wins.

So many haters on the internet nowadays.

Damn people. Give it a rest.

The controller looks fine to me, but without the touchpad I couldn't really play the games I like.
