Just finished The Houses October Built 2, I liked it.
Not as good as the first, a bit different.
But I love haunts, I love the events so it is right up my alley.

I always thought it was a 2016 release so I keep leaving it off my best of list for this year, but it's def one of my faves. Get Out is the only horror/thriller I'd put above it so far this year.

Devils Candy was damn good, unexpectedly good really. It popped up one day on Netflix and I thought it might just be some kind of trashy Saturday morning flick for me but it really turned out much better than anticipated.

I just discovered Never Sleep Again is available on Blu-ray! It's also available as a four disc set that includes Crystal Lake Memories. The two versions are priced comparably on Amazon Canada, but if I get the one that includes both docs, I lose the magnificent NSE cover art. The replacement is pretty bad. Does anyone know if the four disc set comes with an alternative cover? I know should just buy the twin pack. It's not like I have every NoES movie on its own BD with the glorious poster art; they're all in a single collection. But I'm on the fence regardless.

Value vs presentation - a decision that has vexed humankind since the dawn of time which we can all relate to; and which should definitely not be brushed off as merely another first world problem.

Anyone know where I could find a version of Cannibal Holocaust with the animal deaths cut out? Apparently this version exists, but is hard to find and I'd like to watch it for the October challenge this year.

I hated, HATED Beyond the Gates. Not even Barbara Crampton could save it for me. It's one of those dumb horror films that I probably would've liked more as a kid in the 80s.

Here Alone was ok if you can handle the slow burn for the first 45 minutes of the movie. Good performances though.


Really enjoyed The Devil's Candy. Good performances, high tension throughout, and just an overall solid film.

As for found footage films, have you seen a movie called Creep?

Regal Cinemas is having a "Horrorfest" at some of their theaters where they're playing older horror movies and charging $5 for one and $10 for a double feature. Definitely a couple that I'm going to swing by for:

I watched The Prowler for the first time this weekend. Pretty solid slasher, cool premise and some brutal kills.

Vicky Dawson was a babe.

I saw It and mother! I enjoyed both but mother! was much harder to sit through and much more horrifying. It was a fun movie and I laughed a lot. It wasn't that scary but very enjoyable.

I bought the new Night of the Living Dead Blu Ray, and this is the absolute worst transfer I have ever seen of the film. Exposure is ridiculously high and it looks dirtier than some cheap DVD version I used to have. The film is on youtube and that looks 100x better than this shit. Waste of nine bucks.

Yeah, I heard that was just a shitty 50th anniversary cash-in... and a year early, at that. It's looking like Criterion will be releasing the new restoration on Blu-ray next year though, so that's gonna be the one to get.

Did anyone check Super Dark Times out already? Sounds interesting but I'd have to travel a bit to catch it (regular cinema won't cary it and art house here is only catering babyboomers who'll have zero interest in a movie like this).

It's been happening forever since it's public domain.

Criterion is doing one finally, but I have the Japanese bluray that's currently the best.

Watched The Collector the other night. Better than I expected, and def more effective than the Saw movies from a torture porn standpoint.

In celebration of Friday the 13th, we're having another couple over tonight to watch a scary movie. However....we really don't watch much modern horror, so we are all clueless what to try. We are looking for anything from last 5-10 years that is legit scary and or creepy. The last movie I watched that I loved was The Witch, but we are looking for something none of us have seen....which is a lot.

Help me, GAF! If I can't find a good one, I am resorting to Killer Klowns from Outer Space just for the fuck of it.

Any recommendations on good haunted house movies? Ideally something from the last ten years as there is a good chance I won't have seen it.

Watched Amityville:The Awakening (it is free to buy on google play for two weeks)
Interesting premise, paper thin delivery.
Could have used another half hour to try to make you care about the people involved, but instead it just breezes through.
Total waste of Cameron Monaghan. Jennifer Morrison is there and wasted.
Jennifer Jason Leigh as the mother is just tedious.
Bella Thorne as the lead is hot and angsty, but again you never know enough to give a damn.

Watch it because it is free and you may be able to see roads it could have taken to be so much better.
You probably won't watch it twice.

I watched The Dead because of pics posted in a recent zombie thread. It was kinda boring over all, but good Romero-style zombies, which I guess is all it really was supposed to be.

I just finished We Are Still Here. It was ok, but (imo) the acting wasn't amazing and made it feel like a college project. A few decent scares with some nice performances though.

I'll follow up with The Baby's Room this weekend.
