I just finished We Are Still Here. It was ok, but (imo) the acting wasn't amazing and made it feel like a college project. A few decent scares with some nice performances though.
Ya, We Are Still Here was more of a tribute movie to 70s haunted house movies. Now that you say that I probably laughed more than anything.
I realized after IT that some horror makes me laugh more than scare me, and I still really enjoy it. I know I must have realized this before but it really made me conscious of it because I lol'd so much during it.
I'd be interested in what have been the most disappointing horror movies, that people have seen in the past decade? Mine would definitely be Cannibal (2006), Dead Snow, and Cabin in the Woods.

We had a horror movie night among friends, and after I chose Cannibal I was actually forbidden to pick any other movie for the evening. =D As for Dead Snow, I couldn't even watch it through, and it's beyond me how it could get two sequels. Cabin in the Woods wasn't quite as bad, but a lame horror comedy nonetheless. Something like Voices surpasses it easily.

I rewatched it tonight since it's only about 75 minutes and I enjoyed it. Still forgot what happens so it was still scary, even though I remembered seeing it after each scene occurred.

2. Fresh Meat was an awful waste of time too. This one actually pisses me off for putting it on my marathon list because something so much better could have been put in. It has a good setup though. Criminals on the run end up in a cannibal family's home. Just doesn't execute at all.
3. I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House This was just boring. It didn't go anywhere and really didn't do anything other than make me sleepy but apparently some people did like it?
4. They're Watching The last 15 minutes was the only part worth watching.
5. Monster Brawl This one is a no brainer for being a shitty movie. I mean its pretty much Universal monsters wrestling WWF style but it sounds stupid enough to be fun...which it was for like the first half hour setting things up. Then it should have wrapped up quickly because the rest was just boring bad not so bad its good.
Runners up are Black Death, Alchemists Cookbook, Stake Land 2, Evolution, and 31.
We ended up watching The House October Built. We made it about 50 minutes in and quit. One of us in the group got nauseous from the camera movement, and the rest of us were bored to tears. It doesn't help my TV is garbage with blacks---it has to be at least 10-12 years old---so when dark scenes hit you might as well be wearing sunglasses in a dark room. We randomly switched over to watching Clown. Silly movie, but I actually enjoyed it. Not scary at all, but entertaining enough.

I haven't seen the rest, luckily perhaps, but I actually enjoyed I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. It wasn't quite what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the poetic narrative. It was pretty uneventful though, which was something my girlfriend didn't enjoy.
Heh, I'm not a big fan of horror comedies, and the humor in Cabin in the Woods was just too lowbrow for my taste. For reference, my favorite horror comedy is Bloodbath at the House of Death (1984). I guess the dry British humor just works better for me.
I don't know. The asshole holding the rights is a dumbfuck and wants a ton of cash and allegedly a theatrical run for his out of pocket 3d conversion. He's also sitting on rights to Martin.
It's peak time for the Dawn rights with Romero dying and it being the 40th anniversary next year.
After hearing it discussed on the Super Best Friends podcast, I checked out Channel Zero. Two episodes in, I'm enjoying it a good deal. The concept of a mysterious kids' TV show that aired on a dead channel in the 80s during a string of murders is interesting in and of itself, but the show has several other threads tired into its plot that present the viewer with a wonderfully surreal, supernatural mystery.
It's not the most polished show ever, but going into episode 3, I'd say it's definitely worth the time of anyone who enjoys small town horror.
Negatives:
- Shitty mood-ruining music and attempts at comedy
- Cheap jump scare galore
- The move to the 80's
- An increased presence of religion
- The cast of characters was worse altogether, including Beverly being a tomboy, and more whiny.
- The new Pennywise couldn't hold a candle to Tim Curry's.
It wasn't entirely awful, but the bad outweighed the good, and made the experience worse as a whole. I enjoyed some of the horror elements, but I think their abundance diluted their effect.
I'll probably watch the second part nonetheless, just to see how it goes. Hopefully the adult cast will be better, and there'll be less cringeworthy moments.

Tim Curry is a treasure, but had a longer miniseries and full portrayal with the adults too.
The jump scares were expected with today's hollywood, but also makes sense in the film with kids being dumb and easier to scare. They already fought him and he'll have to step up his game against the adults in the sequel.
I watched Krampus yesterday. It was well made. Some plot points dragged it down for me but the creature designs were awesome and I liked it overall.
Today I watched The Final Girls. It was ok. I liked the actors but I'm not much of a Slasher fan anyway so this didn't do much for me. Some extra points for the creativity and the way the movie dealt with the premise.

I loved these, haha. Dead Snow 2 is great as well. Oh, and I disagree with everything you said about "IT". XD
As for some movies that left a sour taste in my mouth:
- 28 Weeks Later (Just when I thought the movie was finally going to pick up it ended.)
- The Descent (I really didn't like the last 15 minutes)
- Martyrs (I didn't enjoy this at all. Didn't feel anything except maybe disgust)
- Deathgasm (I can see the fun the director and the cast probaby had but it was a little too tame for me)
I know I saw IT as a teen but can't remember much and I never read the book, so I was entertained by the new IT, but I can see how people might hate it. I was almost not going to see it because I heard it was just jump scares. It was definitely not a scary movie. The jump scares weren't too obnoxious maybe because I expected them.
The movie that pissed me off was Blair Witch with the loud jump scares that were completely nonsensical. Like why is there a loud noise in the woods when a friend shows up right behind another friend and startles them?
Recently rewatched the original Halloween. I have a new appreciation for how well made this movie is. Cinematography, editing, and the score. Apparently a John Carpenter sequel is coming next year?
