when you beat the game on its different difficulty levels, you unlock this art, plus tons more.

God of War = my favorite game ever.

I can't fucking wait until the sequel (already confirmed) debuts, just to see what they are cooking up. Hopefully it will be a launch title for PS3. Anyone hear if the sequel is PS2 or PS3?

I'd also kill for a PSP version.

This would've been a much better cover than the 'other' medusa head one

there was one picture in particular that was being painted (on a graphical tablet) during one of GoW's behind-the-scenes vids...it's been a while since I rented the game butthat pic struck me as great looking...screw the haters I loved the GoW art direction

Not bad. Reminds me of art from Magic cards.

:lol butt-hat!

How come no one mentions angst when this guy comes up? How is the prince different? Mean looking guys with two swords...

Kratos always was brooding evil
The Prince was a good persian guy turned M-rated Godsmack-loving the-exact-same-fucking-tribal-tattoo-as-the-lead-artist-wearing angsty bitch

it was the transformation that annoyed people about the Prince...well...that and the absolutely shitty music

The Chronos artwork is awesome. It seems like he has an entire city on his back. Also, Kratos was the commander of the Spartan army. If he isn't angry, then no-one is. Also, he doesn't have "generic" rage ala Warrior Within.

It's mentioned in the unused character gallery that
they wanted Kratos to be wearing armor similar to this, but it was too detailed and looked like shit thanks to hardware limitations. It appearently also clashed with some of the backgrounds. They said they still might use it when technology improves (PS3).
Hmm, I'll have to go back and look at the extras again, but I would have sworn that
they went with no armor to make Kratos more primal and animal like. I remember they talk heavily about consciously working to make Kratos very animalistic
.

Jaffe confirmed GoW2 himself. I never heard what platform it would be for, but I heard that they wanted to re-use the the engine, so it would make sense that GoW2 would be on PS2. It was a very expensive development (as most already know), so its logical that they want a little more return on all that hard work. Plus, that gives them an opportunity to push the engine to its max while giving more time to work on a PS3 engine. Honestly, I am so in love with God of War that I will be happy with whatever they decide to do.

The fantastic storyline has alot to do with that. Kratos' motivations were clear, while the Prince just hated that his parents took away his Linkin Park cd or something.

woo, toooooouuuuuuuuchyyyyyyyyy

:p

Yeah, Kratos was "bad-ass" done right. Not some long-haired pretty boy who just happens to be pissed off. The guy actually looks brutal.

I'm thinking they can maybe improve the game by making it less linear. But on the other hand, the linearity was a godsend at times, because I absolutely didn't want to go searching around for what to do next. Hard choice to make... I just think God of War needs even more of an adventure side, more convos with NPCs and things like branching paths.

If Konami could get the next castlevania to play like this, that would be awesome.

What's so special about this guys design?

If I didn't know any better I would say that was a new Mortal Kombat character :lol

I was never really bothered by the linear nature, because the action was so fast and frantic. Plus there was never any 'downtime' in the story, you always had an immediate task to accomplish. If they could tweak up the engine, create some harder puzzles (though I think the ones in GoW were pretty well designed, if simple in execution ie - pull lever, push block, etc), and push the playtime to 20 hours, it would be hard to beat.

Working my way through Pandora's Temple for the first time was probably one of my favorite gaming experiences, alongside my first playthrough of MGS1 and RE2.

Put some hair on Kratos and he looks pretty much like the Prince. Or is his constant snarling the key to being "brutal?"

I agree, had Ubisoft done a better job outlining the Prince's motives and on the character design, there wouldn't be so many complaints.

I'm not being touchy. I am just stating one of the given reasons why Kratos could be filled with rage. ;P

Umm kratos is in a fucking game called god of war. Its CONTEXT people. His design fits fine within the context. The whole prince of persia thing was fucking ridiculous.

You can argue it all you want, its in this forums dumbass nature, but Prince was a dumb ass cash in, while Kratos was made because he worked for the games theme and setting.

The fact that he doesn't have long, flowing hair, the warpaint, his pose, the scar on his face, his clothes or rather the lack thereof.' He has an animalistic vibe about him. Small touches have a major effect on looks. For example, in FF7, if Cloud or Vincent were bald, they'd give off a completely different feeling as characters.

I'm glad in this game they didn't compromise by trying to make the character look pretty and badass at the same time. These halfway mixtures never work for me.

Both looks and his actions. Actually he doesn't look too bad with long hair... But still, props on not fruityizing him.

Hell, they should've given him an afro.

It's as someone said, Kratos has always been badass, while we've seen the Prince when he didn't have that attitude. It's like when Hammer tried to make over his image with Pumps and a Bump. :P Didn't work. :)

So they actually ended up using a version of that armored Kratos in-game, despite Jaffe's assertion that there would be readability issues. Just fire off Rage of the Gods and check him out, armored and all.

i'm starting to dig god of war -- the pandora's temple bit is like zelda except good -- but kratos looks like a character they cut from a mortal kombat game for looking too silly.

anyway: how do the chains on his blades work? in the art the chains are wrapped around his arms, but they're not there in-game, are they? it perplexes me. i'll have to look again. :/

demon is at number three or four on my mental list of gafers i absolutely would not want to do drugs with.

In attempt to appeal to the female gaming population Jaffe and crew has decided to take a direction with the next game in the series. As they say, like father, not like son. No longer do you play as Kratos, but you play as his sensitive, tender, good-natured son. Apparently the title will be called "Prince of War"
