HOTD4 screens

Cause this is THRILLER! THRILLER night!...

jett:
The bottom line is, this looks like ass. Yes?
As demonstrated in the "Next Level" presentation, seeing the graphics actually in motion is a very different experience. The Lindbergh visuals got quite impressive in the new Afterburner and Sonic.

It also looks like the screengrab shots are probably from abit earlier in development as indicated by the lack of arcade stats like score and the bullet counter.

It never ceases to amaze me how hard it is for gamers to get impressed nowadays. There are graphical effects going on in those screenshots alone that can only currently be done with a top of the line PC , atleast running the game at 60 FPS.

It basically doesn't look finished , only a couple of zombie models shown off, low resolution background textures etc. I do agree that despite thinking it looks decent , the screens shouldnt' have been shown off until the game was basically done.

I see your quote and raise you a "Goddamned jaded as all hell." This forum's bordering on depressing.

The hardware specifications for Lindbergh are yet unclear, although previous reports have stated Sega's intent to use the board to put some technological distance between home consoles and contemporary arcade development.

If this really is true, then this must be a really early version of the game. And if this does turn out to be true, this would rock! There would now be a reason to go to the arcades again.

Are you really surprised? People aren't going to be satisfied with games simply looking better than current gen games. They want games that smack current gen games around. That's what happened when this gen entered. People weren't impressed with several DC launch games because while they looked better than what we were currently getting they weren't a big step up. The games that were a big step up got alot of praise. Samething is happening now, games like Heavenly Sword and GoW get alot of praise but the ones that aren't a big step up aren't going to get as much.

Why should we be impressed by these screens? Before being the Xbot you all know and love, I'm a fan of Sega's arcade games and these screens just make me sad. Like everyone said hopefully this is early stuff and the game will look *much* better when released, but if not... WTF???
If Sega goes the custom hardware way for this generation of arcade games it should mean that they are back in the whole "arcade games should look much better than home console games" like we had until the last 6/7 years. What I see here is certainly not any better than what we got to see from early Xbox 360 games. A console that will be released in november, at about the same time the first Lindbergh arcade titles are stated to be released too. So, if this game graphical improvements are not there during release, why would gamer want to go out of their way to play these games in the arcade?
Call me jaded if you want, but I just want the Sega of the beginning of the DC era to be back again.

The Lindbergh games (Afterburner, The House of the Dead 4, Sonic, and Virtua Fighter) have been running full speed for a long time and showed in playable realtime for an E3 unveiling. For that readiness, X360 hardware is many months later, with even longer for PS3, even with the consoles releasing on a shorter software development cycle for launch than the normal cycle for arcade launch game development.

The Lindbergh games didn't seem playable at E3 - I haven't heard of anyone who has played them, and I went to their theater and although it might have been realtime, they certainly weren't playable there...

They also didn't look that impressive to me. The only one that left an impression on me at all was the VF demo, which looked almost as good as DOA4...the others just weren't that exciting on a technical level (although I wouldn't mind seeing the Afterburner demo turned into a game, even though I would probably be the only person who would buy it)

I could care less about the graphical effects if their zombies look like something thrown together overnight. They don't look organic at all.

It's like they cared more about reflection than portraying rotting human flesh.

From Beyond3D/UKR/0p@-ages, some more-than-likely BS specs:

I have managed to get a hold of the specs to SEGA SAMMY'S next arcade board

SH-7 3.5Ghz + FLOATING POINT ACCELERATOR
POWERVR SERIES-5 700Mhz + ELAN 2
1GB GDDR4 UMA

Capabilities-

2.5 Billion polygons per second gameplay sustained
100Gpixels [deffered]
100Gtexels [deffered]

The board shall be unveiled on the first day of Jamma 2005 on the 1st September. "

The only thing that proabably might be true is the date of unveiling.

I don't think that TEXAN = Deadmeat* either. DM was/is far more technical and speculative. Is DM still at 0p@-ages? I think that was the last place I remember seeing him.

Re the specs. It's funny how people assume that Lindbergh will have to have some crazy specs on paper to outperform X360/PS3. The point of the IT/PVR tech is to do more with less; as demonstrated by DC & Naomi2.

I have spoken to people who have worked on Lindbergh, and Lindbergh is not in any way, shape, or form up to X360 spec.

These shots are teh uggs

So X360>Lindbergh??

Doesn't surprise me....

remember when the DOA4 images appeared online and everyone was having trouble deciphering whether they were xbox 1 pix or xbox 360 pix?

that was awesome.

D'oh, that's what I figured...

When is this game coming out? It'd be interesting if this game ends up like HOTD2 - started on one hardware, but actually released in the arcade on superior console-based hardware (although probably without any enhancements that the new hardware would provide)...

Those zombies look awful. They couldn't come up with like, I dunno, four different hairdos and maybe mix n match clothing?

The graphics to me don't look so awful for an arcade shooter, the art is the real problem. Flat, uninteresting, unoriginal.

I'd rather play RE4 about 56 more times.

Because debut games for an arcade system are not rushed for a product launch like with a home system but are instead given a full, regular development cycle, The House of the Dead 4 and the others wouldn't start showing up until the middle of next year had Sega Sammy chosen the later X360 hardware. They'd also have hardware supply headaches trying to fish out adequate stock of the custom console parts from Microsoft and Partners during their launch period in order to put together development and production boards for such an X360 based arcade machine.

Lindbergh, though, has given them the next generation performance shown in games like Afterburner early enough to precede the next console cycle and not end up debuting well after it's already started (and after both the X360 and PS3 launch).

Man, that would be awsome if Sega threw their hat into the Action/Survival-horror bid RE4 style using the HotD franchise. I have a feeling that their LG/shooter version will never be above average again and the genre is becoming incredibly stagnant overall. I wouldn't mind the change especially since Sega feels 4-player Light-gun games aren't desired.

Well, they did make Zombie Revenge.

Look at the fingers on these. Perhaps you never encounter these after all they're behind glass perhaps they're just a background thing.

Looks like someone had too many shots

Not to sound retarded, but why would a Sonic game be on Lindbergh? :/

Well, there have been Sonic arcade games before and the demo did look pretty arcadey to me. Nothing certain though.
